Best ending is when you play through the game a second time. Eric shows you the tape, tells you to skate with him for it and then you jaw jack him, take the tape, game over.
@@nitevibe9886 Scared the hell out me, when I first saw it. I wasn't even 13 yet, though, and his broken & unconscious face reminded me of my past fear of jump scares. Blame goes to my brother though, because of The Maze Game, you understand. I was 7.
This final gameplay part definitely explains what life should be about: "If you didn't succeeded at the thing you always wanted to earn, head back home, calm down, and start something your own what you think will rock."
I just noticed something new after all these years playing this game. When Eric Sparrow mentions the helicopter jump during the cutscene before the final challenge, you can hear the helicopter in the background. That's why I love THUG 1. You pick up little things over the years that make the game so special. There was definitely a lot of passion and thought put into this game. For anyone wondering when the helicopter sound starts: Go to 15:52. Make sure you wear earphones, since it can be hard to hear it without them.
This game was awesome, the story mode was the highlight. I can't believe many people mention THUG 2 more than this one. It's good and stuff, but to me it was just a video game version of Viva la Bam, which was popular at the time. I was hyped to see what needed story mode was gonna be in it when they announced it, but oh well.
THUG 2 is the game I have a lot of beef with in the series. It sparked the series into being about destruction and chaos, and it forgot about evolving the roots of skateboarding like THUG 1 and the previous games. THUG 2's story was insulting and stupid, and it is what made the Tony Hawk games turn into a GTA clone, rather than celebrate the art of skateboarding. At least the underrated gem Proving Ground gave us the last hurrah of skateboarding goodness before the dark ages of Tony Hawk games.
@@maverickrob9199 Always viewd Proving Ground as a real sequel to Underground. 2 was fun but it felt like a spin off/idendity crisis. It was even advertised as 2 games in one, classic mode in that one was fun despite being THPS2 and 3 levels iirc.
Thank you so much for playing through this. Discovered this playthrough by random and watched all the way through. Even though I've played this game probably over 100 times, always fun to watch it again.
I guess you can call me OG, because THPS1 was got me into skating. I think I was about 7 at the time. Needless to say, I can do a 900 McTwist, buttery.
This takes me back to waking up on Saturday mornings as a kid, taking my duvet into the front room, getting a bowl of cereals and playing this all morning! Ahhh the good old simple days
The final mission gave me so much hassle as a kid. It’s why I love the fact that when you reach that point on subsequent playthroughs, your character just punches Eric in the face and takes the tape for himself - not wanting to go through that again.
Damn man I wish we can get this game on ps4. One of my all time favorite games ever man. Probably the best Tony Hawk game ever to be honest...I gotta get a Ps2 again and get this game...so just wanna play it again...had such a connection to this game
I remember playing this when I was younger and it blew my mind a sports game could have a good story. I wish more sports games did something like this with a really good narrative and maybe even branching paths.
Funny how this story was about money hungry greed and then they release THPS5. We're in sad times, companies have become too free to squeeze the life out of people.
On the brightside, THPS5 was so bad. Tony hated it himself, took the rights away from robo modo whatever, and has vicarious visions and former neversoft devs working thps1+2 remake!
This is the game that taught me how fame and money can change some people and got me into a lot of bands with it’s wicked soundtrack. It also taught me that the moon gravity cheat in Hawaii will absolutely break the game if you do it right. Great times
God! the Jersey Spine Challenge was the worst mission on Sick difficulty. I didn't know tricks also counted when not done over the spine transfer if they were done in a combo.
(You) and Eric were bros who grew up in Jersey together. They must have had a good friendship, until Eric gets tired of living in (You's) shadow. The story is great imo because it shows the tragedy of how friends turn into villains.
@@BenedictPlays Honestly....I always saved my L1 & R1 "off the board" until last. I would run around like a mad cunt to try and get the last 3 or 4 icons!

I really thought that punk at the end was gonna be one of them goodfernuttins. Turns out he is actually a pretty good skater, and he could probably end up going somewhere with a change of attitude.
I just finished the game, and i got the alternate ending because i didn't realized that the version i downloaded was already done 100%, i never knew about the tapes and got every THPS2 levels unlocked already. Gotta make sure not to make that mistake when i download THUG2.
niko lugo Me too! My brother and I have kind of a tradition of going through story mode once every summer. We'd create our own goals for each other to try, compete who makes it to 100 million first. Then there are gametypes such as horse, king of the hill, graffiti... The fun never ends.
I still own my copies of thug, thug 2 and thaw for the original Xbox I even played them on my Xbox 360 slim Would be sick having them remastered, specially considering we haven't gotten a good Tony Hawk game in a long time
17:44 it's weird how when your player walks away from Eric, he does not go completely off screen. It appears that he does when playing in Full Screen, but this is being played in widescreen, so you can see his shoulder.

I've been playing that game since I was a boy at twelve years of age.

If im not wrong thats the ending if you play the game on the easiest difficulty, I could be wrong though
Suhail Hurbans you got to play it twice. Like new game + ending
I was shook when that unexpectedly happened lol
Or right before the mission go to stats and make your character as the tallest setting, this can be done on all difficulty levels

This game really needs to be remastered for the PS4. I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I think remaster would ruin all that nostalgic feel, ya know PS2 graphics have their special feel to it.
Austin Cross not a remaster. a port, like how classic FFVII is on the psn store for ps4
VLGappy I think that's what I had in mind when I said remaster, so I agree.
Johnny Caper maybe like a remaster where you choose new HD Graphics or the older graphics which are unchanged, kinda like a 2 disc special for $40
Nah yo they could do what they did to crash and it would absolutely be fucking great.

Beating Eric was the hardest thing ever when I had this game as a kid
Frauds try the hardest to keep their lies true.
Damn girl can i beat ur eric up 😏
Since when did bitches play video games
Combo around city was much harder than beat Eric
I never even made it past hawaii... This game was hard honestly 😭
The sheer amount of childhood trauma, temper tantrums playing through this game on Sick difficulty as a kid. Still love this game dearly
God, the amount of nostalgia this video is giving me. I genuinly lost count how many times I beat this game as a kid.
class of its own til this day 💯 💯 🛹
Good old nostalgia of my personal favorite game. I felt the mechanics of the game were perfect also.
Sick dude. I love seeing people still playing this game after all this time.
I recently got PS2 just to play all Tony Hawk games, feels great!
They say Eric why you got a 12 car garage but you only got 6 cars ?? :)))))

DeViiaTe it was hard enough on the easiest difficulty for me
Same. Took me weeks to get through just one goal some days. I don't think I've ever sweated so heavily, while playing a game, before.
Benedict Gameplays its true though
As a child, I used to think that Eric Sparrow was some kind of supernatural wizard who shot fire from his hands.
One doesn't know true frustration until they've tried the New Jersey Train Spine mission.

2 hours late but ready to binge watch this classic game great job!
So what's next for the series?
Either or sounds great to me!
God! the Jersey Spine Challenge was the worst mission on Sick difficulty. I didn't know tricks also counted when not done over the spine transfer if they were done in a combo.
It's just looking for a combo of the specified trick + the gap. As long as those two conditions are met in the same combo, it counts.
I love your sense of humor, man. I love how the guy was talking crap on the Leap of Faith and you kept Jamie Thomas just for that spot.

Soul Skating is such a great trick that it shifts time toward by several hours
Sometime I might show my own custom trick when I get a chance. Also, the alt ending was awesome
I still love the ending when u beat the game once and you just smack Eric and take the tape 😂

I could swear there is an ending where you knock Eric smooth out and take the tape back.
