I use them on all my trailers. Can't sell something I wouldn't use myself. I have a scrap trailer from 2008 with the original bushings. Grease them once a year or so.
So, mine are getting a little long in the tooth from using the old girl pretty heavily for about 4-5 years. Now that I'm retired, I don't use it much anymore but any time I can replace plastic with metal AND add a zerk, I'm gonna do it. My order will be there in a few weeks. SO glad I found this channel! Thanks and keep up the good work. 👍
we have only a few left in stock but I'm ordering more today. if it isn't in stock just check back in a day or two. I have these on all my trailers and I love it.
Thanks, nice video. Love the pit, wish I had one! Some advise the wet bolt grease outlet inside the bushing be installed horizontally, at 3 or 9 o'clock positions. I assume this may be to avoid pressure, as in, if the grease were trying to come out of the bolt when the hole was at the top or bottom where the weight of vehicle is on it causing blockage of grease flow.
setting the grease fittings horizontally makes sense to me. Most of our pins are threaded or already have the holes clocked so we can never pick the direction of grease flow, but we can on these and I'll definitely think about that in the future.
Never knew that they had those we have the plastic bushing equalizer with 1/4 inch hangers and the construction trailers get as big as 14x70 and have as much as 8 axles
Its about time a kit like this was made. I have seen so many of these bolts and bushing wore right out. Didn't see you using Loctite on the threads when installing. I feel this does two things. Keeps road crap out of the threads and prevents loosening down the road.
I just buy greasable bolts and use them in tandem with the plastic bushing kits. Get 3 times the life out of my suspensions. By that time all the trailer wheels are coming off for brake/bearing/tire inspect and overhaul and a little more forgiving if not greased.
Do you ever beef up the spring hangers on the trailer frame when you install the heavier shackle staps? The hangers are probably the next weakest link in the setup. Nice work.
Our suppliers do not supply a "heavy duty" hanger. however I have seen welded braces on them to prevent twist. I have welded angle iron from hanger to hanger before to act like a "cross member" to make them more durable. that is about it. I believe that Morride makes a "bolt on" cross member to go from hanger to hanger side to side. it is supposed to make them absorb the twist on the hangers when you turn corners.
I had a spring shop install my wet bolt kit on my 5th wheel last year. 3 of the 14 zerks no longer take grease. Im going back to the spring shop and ask them to try and free them up
Replace the springs as well Know fun sitting on the side of the road all weekend with two broken springs in Texas and no stores open with parts Roads are bad in New Mexico Texas Arizona or just in general
The new bushings are going to be made of bronze, brass is softer than the nylon ones that were in the trailer in the first place. They are different, I know they look the same, but they are not the same.
Is no one concerned at 14:40 where he cranks the bolts super tight and collapses the mount? Isn't there supposed to be some degree of slack in the bolts to prevent premature wear on the moving parts?
Wow , I have equalizer 15" center to center. Keystone Freedom Lite trailer 27.5' with 26 inch 3 leaf springs - eye to eye. Can you help me with that Equalizer match to you heavy duty parts....Hoping!
Hi bud nice stuff I saw the one we’re u we’re doing a suspension on a Hendrixon u had a very powerful air gun I think it was a 1 1/2 can u give me the make pls keep it up reagards Les north wales 🏴 🇬🇧 uk
The thing with these, is just the weight of the trailer kills the brass bushings in no time. I just did mine. And got a couple I cannot get grease into anymore.
Hey bud I know this is a new video it's a very good video though but I have a question for you what kind of tires are those on that trailer and are they very good do you know if you could please let me know by the way I'm going to order me a side of those spring shackles thanks for the video appreciate you
we usually sell good year tires or something decent like that. I am currently getting out of tires at this time and would recommend contacting your local trailer repair/sales store.
My trailer has 2-5/8 shackles and I can only find heavy duty kits with 2-1/4 shackles. Would it be fine to switch to a shorter shackle? It has the 2 inch short equalizer. Thanks
yes, all the modern trailers use the 2 1/4" shackles. Just make sure that your wheel base is 33". (center of hub to center of hub on axles) and the kit should bolt right in.
@simcoespring any idea why companies like Dexter write such vague torque specs in their instructions? 30-50 ft/lbs is a big swing but the chart for 7/16 Grade 8 hardware says 90 ft/lbs Dry and 68 ft/lbs Lubricated.... Im installing this kit for a friend of mine this weekend on his Shirley Smoker this is covered in pork grease so no rust to fight with lol
oil, never-seize and other lubricants can make the threads a lot more slippery lowering the torque specs. some Ubolts can take 140 ft lbs but the Ubolt plates are designed for 90 ft lbs....so there is a lot of variance between parts. Dry Ubolts will be 140, oil lubrication is 120 and never seize is 90 (or something close to that)
I just installed this but am having a issue. Where the shackle connect the spring to equalizer, both bolts have about a 1/8” gap between bolt and shackle link. Obviously I can’t tighten it any more due to the step down bolt. Is this correct or is there an issue? Maybe a washer would be needed?
Ive got the same issue, my Ram stands taller than my 5th wheel. My trailer equalizer is currently the 2" tall one and my springs are flipped on top of my axle. Can I use this 4" kit? And, will it raise my 5th wheel?
you can use a 4" tall equalizer, that should give you about 2" of height (at the wheels, about 4 at the rear bumper), if that is NOT enough, then you can try our lift blocks for another 2" of lift
This is old information - UPDATE: The shackle swap will only increase the height by 1", if you want to lift it more, then you can buy our 1, 2 or 3" lift block kits in our store at www.simcoespring.com Hope this helps

They’re garbage. I’ve had two sets and they were both chinesium trash steel that you couldn’t install a set without stripping the threads on at least one bolt.

You do great work
The only difference is we lifted the trucks up with winches
Lots of fun

I'm not gonna forget that bushing trick
I love it. I went from ruining the odd bushing...now I almost never do...plus they don't get distorted.

they can get clogged real easily, just buy a bag of zerks and replace them, they thread into the bolt.
@@simcoespring I removed all 3 zerks and they are not clogged. They pass grease easily by themselves

I notice that your old straps are not as long as the new ones I just got a new set of greaseable bolts hope the shorter straps work
So what are the odds that will be the only grease those bushing's see?
Can you just double up the shackles to make a half inch thick one if you can not get the heavy duty shackle in your area
I would have cleaned up and painted the hangers
My trailer equalizers are dexter 13-104 . They make a kit for that set up ?
Wouldn't it be easier to just take the wheels off the trailer and save the hassle of using a torch to cut the bolts?
If he took the wheels off, there would be nothing holding the axles in place.

the grease hole in the bolt is really tiny. It could just be clogged with some dried grease too
Take it out and remove zerk then blow it out. Should work.
Sometimes taking weight off of the springs helps to get the grease to flow. Also heat helps.

Are greaseable bolts avail for 3/4" for front end? Have 30mm heads.
I will leave out some of the other details..
Thanks.
Not sure what suspension you are talking about.
The 3/4"?? bolts for my front suspension , can one get greaseable ones?
Gr 8 to L9 or
10.9 to above ?? 12.9???
Those look like they could be pretty universal
What about an f150

they are suposed to be loose. that is to prevent overtightening. it has to be able to rotate.

there is a shoulder on the bolts, so you tighten the nuts up against the shoulder

If money 💰 was not an issue what piece of equipment that you don’t have would you purchase that would make your job allot easier and why?
Self feeding programmable bandsaw to cut solid steel blocks with. I'll probably be cutting about 1000-1500 blocks this year and it would help
Is it necessary to get bolts with a knurl or can I just use regular 9/16 bolts
yes, you want the bolt to stay in one place, and the spring to rotate on the bolt. if not, the bolt will rotate and wear the hangers/shackles out.
@@simcoespring ah ok just don’t want to spend $50+ on just bolts haha
@@simcoespring it’s interesting that that trailer shackle bolts are like that but not trucks
Put 1 good little tack weld on the head of your regular 9/6" grade 8 bolt to keep it from turning. Just another option.
Ok good
why do you never take the tires off anything?
because I have a pit and we don't have to, nor do we want to spend the extra labor to take something off that doesn't need it.
Saying brass bushings is incorrect. Brass is not a good bearing material. Both look similiar. Bronze bushings is what you have.
