What he corrected is that The son was supposed to pray that Christ come into my life that I may good. That's how I have understood. It is Christ's presence in us that makes us good .its not of ourselves.
When you ask Jesus to "Help me be good" your statement insinuates that you have goodness in you as he is helping you. In other words your are stating that without your effort it cannot happen." If your goodness has value than you are partly saving yourself. Are you then making yourself to have some power of salvation. Is this not the original lie from Eden when the Snake said "You shall be as God"?

I was such person thinking that am I not saved, thinking that I am not doing enough to get to Heaven. Now I understand I have to let God work in me but not me working on God.
