Can I still use some of the DBUA input, like opting out of GRP creation since I have my own backup option (I'd imagine GRP could be costly on a huge production database)? I can't find anything on that in the Upgrade Guide. Thanks.
Hi Rudi, Sure - if you want you can disable the use of restore points. Simply set restoration=no and AutoUpgrade will not create a GRP. However, as a result of that AutoUpgrade won't be able to restore the database, and it will be up to you. Regards, Daniel
Hi Daivik, That is hard to tell. It really varies a lot. But for those errors that we see often or we deem fit for it - we create a pre-upgrade check. This way we can catch a lot of known issues upfront - before you start the upgrade. You need to test the upgrade of your own databases. Hopefully, it should be a walk in the park. Enjoy, Daniel
Hi there, thanks for this awesome videos, i followed it to upgrade 12.2 to 19C. Some of folders in the old oracle home are still showing some new files: like aunder dump and trace directory. Do i need to change this manually in the database ?? ( like audit_file_dest, not sure for the trace parameter setup. ) Thanks.
Hi, I am glad that you liked our video and found it useful. Your database should not use any folder in your Oracle Home directory. In Oracle Base there are good locations to store e.g. diag_dest and audit_dump_dest. If you look in your SPFile (or PFile) and find such locations, I suggest that you move them out of the Oracle Home location. If you decide at one point to use Read-Only Oracle Homes you will need this transistion anyway. Regards, Daniel
Thanks for replying Daniel. Aactually what I meant was old Oracle Base. But your reply helped me to change it. Now the question is i still have old oracle home ( 12c) ..do i need to deinstall it or just remove it by rm command. Old 12C is under /u01/app/oracle and new one 19C is under /u03/app/oracle . ( rm -rf /u01/app/oracle/*) ? Let me know thanks.
Hi @@annegrg9578, You should not use "rm" to remove an Oracle Home. Use the deinstallation script that is placed in the Oracle Home. Search the documentation for "oracle database deinstall" and you will find more information. Regards, Daniel
Hi Sushant, No, it is not mandatory. For the target home it is recommended though to always apply the latest Release Update before the upgrade, but it is not mandatory. If you don't install the latest RU, you risk running into problems that we've already fixed. Regards, Daniel
Hi Amin, Thanks for your question. Yes, you can use AutoUpgrade. Be sure to get the latest version from My Oracle Support as a lot of RAC fixes and enhancements have gone in lately. Also, be aware that it works best if the spfile is stored in ASM. And you must upgrade GI yourself before you do the upgrade. Regards, Daniel

Sir what are the issues which usually occur during migration from 12c to 19c

Usefull 😊... Is it mandatory to have latest patches on source and target homes before upgrade ?
