Yo, Ohio viewer here. West of Toledo. Also a big, big fan of Fantasy Age, we got started on Dragon Age and eventually went into a custom world that was basically post apocalyptic science fantasy anime.
The AGE system is great. Have been skimming the Modern Age books along with The Expanse. Love nearly any RPG with cinematic player spends and AGE is probably the easiest, of the ones I'm familiar with, to learn. Although, unlike yourself, I wasn't as impressed with the quality of the hardbacks for one reason; the Modern Age books have no cloth plank reinforcing the spine. Although they're sewn and glued, I can picture the glue cracking between the signatures (the separate folded groupings) over time. Since part of the reason for a cloth plank is to reinforce that. Considering their price for 128-144 page books, I had expected a good hardback binding. Ah well, still worth it for the great system. Thanks for the vid!
Oh wow, I had no idea you made youtube videos! I stumbled across your old blog years back when you were talking about Savage Worlds and 50 Fathoms, and I would read it from time-to-time! I’m glad you’re still doing reviews!
Yup! Still here :) I put the blog aside in 2019 but then my daughter Evie and I started a weekly father/daughter Twitch stream and show right here on the channel. That's where our focus is these days. But I do try to do a fun review here and there, and Fantasy AGE was definitely a fun one to talk about!
Cheers for the love letter to FAGE! (Best to do a love letter when the wife's away!! 😄) Thought she'd left you, halfway through when you said the dog was sad. Anyway, just found your channel and will watch again. All the Best 👍
Fantasy AGE is great. My longest and most epic campaign ever was run in Fantasy AGE. Would love to still run it, but alas, our game moved digital, into VR noless, where you really can't roll multiple dice that well, and having an off colour die for the stunt die is just not possible, so now we run Professor Dungeon Master's Deathbringer.
@@Living4Crits I played in the revised Fantasy AGE playtest Green Ronin did in March. The playtest Envoy was in those documents. Owen KC Stephens talks about it in some of his ThursdAGE streams from around that time.
@@Living4Crits The system stays the same. Everything in the Basic Rulesbook and Companion will be compatible with the Core Rulebook. It only adds more options to the game - Class specific stunts, Ancestry talents, a new class, and specialisations at 1st level. It rocks. Can't wait for the release, because the play test was fun.
Depends on what direction you want to go with regards to tone and feel. If you want more gritty sword and sorcery, DCC. If you want some over the top action and heroics, FAGE.
I'll have to play them to get a better feel, but I don't think it's that much of an issue for the modern and sci fi variants of the AGE system. Classes always felt like more of a trope for fantasy games, to be honest. I'm fully on board with running The Expanse eventually: the book is gorgeous, and I'm a crazy huge fan of the novels.
Interesting system
Very good video and explanation of this game. Very good.
Titansgrave is what got me into Fantasy AGE. That was a great actual play series.
It really was. Dammit I need to get my hands on that book!
Titansgrave is my favorite actual play series. I'd never heard of Fantasy AGE before watching it.
@@TimBaker It was SO well done. I really wish it had gotten a full campaign setting workup.
@@Living4Crits Or a second season!
@@TimBaker Yes!

We got family over in Waterville!
I have a hard time keeping 13th Age and fantasy age separate in my head. This helps.
Both are phenomenal games too!

Judge: In old D&D the term 'Referee' was frequent before it became Dungeon Master.
Fage and Cypher are my favorite systems :D
Great review! Exactly what I was looking for.

Hey Fantasy Age second edition is available for preorder…
I love the Age system. Dragon Age was great! The Expanse also great. I would love to put together a Fantasy Age game.
If you drop me an email I'll give you a peak at my homebrew JRPG AGE setting if you want it. It's a hot mess, but if JRPG's are your thing...
Have you checked out the Trojan War supplement that just came out for Fantasy AGE? If so, what do you think of it?
Yup! I ordered a print copy of it on DriveThruRPG yesterday when it was anounced.

I like the term "referee" that some games use, but I can also get behind "judge"
The new Fantasy AGE edition is basically splitting the Rogue into a new class: the Rogue and the Envoy (social, support, etc).
Wait, where is this at??

Is it true that all the MCC judges are leaving for Fantasy AGE?
Many people have said this.
Who are the MCC Judges?
How do you like that expanse and modern age don’t have classes like fantasy age?

I really wish fantasy age didn't have classes or levels.. they feel so artificial and restrictive..
@@digitalspecter I wonder if anyone has made a modern age: Medieval to circumnavigate the class structure of fantasy age?
I love this game....except it’s way too easy to hit opponents.
isnt dragon age just a worse dnd game? played it a couple of times and got that vibe, only original idea is the stunt mechanic.
