The £1 pollock in batter is chopped and shaped. These are whole fillet, so that accounts for the price difference and different taste/texture. The grey's fat. Fat's where the flavour is 👍
basa fillets come from one big river in Vietnam. The river is also the most polluted river in the world. Its banned in America for that reason. Its actually an Asian monkfish. The river is huge and people live along it and use it as a huge toilet/bath 😂😂. STAYAWAY .
The river's the Mekong and you're right about the pollution. But basa's a catfish not monkfish. One of the fastest growing fish in the world, which is why it's farmed.
@@garyfearon5637 No worries, fella👍. I also read that years ago they were making a hormone out of pregnant women's p*ss, and feeding it to the fish to make it grow even faster. Apparently it's all safe now, so must've cleaned up the river big style? Who knows🤷♂️?
Basa is Vietnamese catfish, they are farmed along side the Mekong river as far as l know and they are also very good value.I think the name 'Basa' is a bit misleading because some people obviously think it is 'Bass' which is a totally different fish.Wild Bass is quite expensive but most of the Bass on sale in this country is farmed in Europe as far as I know.Wild Bass end up in fancy restaurants.I enjoy the boil in the bag fish in sauce with new potatoes and vegetables.Good videos Mr Deano👍.
I noticed Birds eye have started putting basa in their jumbo fish fingers and their fish fingers. It is a muddy mouldy tasting fish and I personally think it changed the taste of the products.,I've been caught out on numerous occasions when I've bought the same product only to realise they have changed the fish. Very disappointed., I like the pollack it has a nice taste. ❤
Peas full of carbs??? Jaysis I never knew that. Fair play to you for sticking to your guns diet wise. You’re inspiring me buddy. Good review, I love fish n parsley sauce. 👍
Morrisons Savers White fillet fish 450 gm frozen for £2.16. Now that is a bargain. Thaw and use your own sauce or batter. You usually get 5 or 6 fillets.
Looked nice, glad you liked them & hopefully will avoid "formed from" and pay the extra for real fillets. Your other posters are correct of course, Basa is best avoided, any search will provide the truth, you may find it trying to hide in plain sight on menus / ingredients under it's alternatives names as River Cobbler or Pangasius.
There is nothing wrong with Pollock In Europe it is eaten all over, in France it is the no2 fish behind cod and is chosen by 29% of Germans and always on the menu in Spain the biggest fish eating country in Europe, only the British snobs don't rate it thinking they are being fobbed off with a cheap alternative.
I prefer cod. 100% cod. Not that cheap alternative pollock. It's the same with the cheap meat products. They are made of waste, and maybe 10% meat if lucky.
Cod in butter sauce with buttery mash was one of my fave meals as a child 😋😋😋
I agree with you on the old boil in the bag fish,Basa is farmed in Vietnam so probably best to avoid.

Served with courgetti spaghetti or cauliflower rice and some peas and mange tout that would make a lovely low calorie/carb meal

Dead right! I stay well away. Disgusting stuff.
Bottom feeder fish

I’ve got some at home Deano… the other brand is Youngs. Top video …. Smithy
Basa is a Vietmanese River Cobbler type of catfish.
Thank you for the video!
Used to enjoy the cod in parsley sauce boil in bag. Do you know if they still make them?
Young's do, but not very nice I'm told and probably nothing like the ones I recall
Wouldn't be my cup of tea Deano but I bow to your superior palate 😂

Try adding malt vinegar once cooked...
i did my fish wrong i boiled mine the sauce went so watery there has got be cheaper else where
Would have been better cook in the pan with little bit milk.
Thought you were going to lick the pattern off the dish lol
It looks a bit small, or am I just greedy 🤔 😂😂
I'd have it with boiled potatoes and veggies 😋
Just a tip m8.i enjoy your video's but leave the review out of ya headline. You'll have people watch all your video that way
frozen fillets of pollock microwaved in a plastic bag... mm beautiful he says... 😂😂🤢
