Once RFK Stadium is demolished, the Washington Commanders will partner with Events DC to build their brand-new $1.95 billion 85,000-seat state-of-the-art retractable-roof stadium at RFK site, which will open for the 2027 NFL season.

And with the crazy inflation and how expensive everything is in DC, no way a state of the art domed stadium will cost only 1.95 billion

The only way this thing will work is to build 3-4 levels of parking in an underground parking garage and have the stadium sit on top. But can u imagine being buried behind countless cars and having to wait more than 3 hrs just to get out of the garage and onto the highway to get home??? It pushed a lot of low income families and houses out with no where to go. All the footprint isn’t big enough for parking plus there’s no bars in the area let alone places to really shop. They’re going to turn it into another park or buildings for at risk youth. Trust me. I’m still surprised the caps and wiz deal actually got done with dc. But there’s no modern infrastructure in the area as far as using it for other events. Like capital is in china town tons of shops and bars many things to do. Nationals park they built tons of apartments and retail and can support the stadium year round and keep fans in the area far beyond the end of the game. The RFK site will be hard pressed to do so especially with alot of low income housing in-the area that would have to be bought out and they’re already pissed about most of dc becoming “gentrified”

Then the traffic patterns on city streets is horrible. The city council and idiot mayor recently have had ddot install pedestrian crosswalk medians and more bike lanes which is mayor bowser’s vision zero initiative to make traffic slower and prevent pedestrians from getting struck and killed by cars. No Washington, DC football stadium should have a roof...and either change the name BACK to "Redskins", or just name 'em the HOGS. After all, what IS DC but a political "trough" or PORK BARREL? The reason why the NFL venue needs to be open to the element is simple...once it rains, which of course, it DOES a LOT in October and November, any grass field becomes a MUD PIT, and the "Hogs" are in their ELEMENT, UNBEATABLE.

Research Research!! Knocking down RFK has no effect on building a new stadium. The new stadium is not going to where RFK was located. The new stadium would be closer to the river and by the jail which actually with the trail built on the waterfront would put the stadium closer to Nat's Stadium. Where RFK is located is going to be either ball fields or retail. There were no delays because of the ownership change, Dan wanted a free stadium and that was never going to happen.

Im from Washington DC and i just have one question: if they do build a new stadium for the REDSKINS (Not calling them the commanders smh) where would they make extra parking? Theres this new multi use area adjacent to RFK called: The Fields. So basically its a playground area for kids, a soccer field, mini football field, tennis court, and basketball court all next to each other. Before they redeveloped that space, it was nothing but parking space for RFK. DC is small enough as it is. And check this, DC jail is close by RFK; however last time i was home, the city was building new condos right across the street from the Jail. Maybe they will build a nice sized underground parking garage like the Superdome has because like i said, there wont be enough room for parking lots.
