Could you drill a small hole at the tip of each lens? If they are pointing roughly down this might be enough to let them drain sufficiently and reduce the chance of cracking if the remaining water freezes. Nice display - and an impressive demonstration of the capability of Wled; you've inspired me to get on and do something about re-starting my display next year.
@orionsorbit A lot has happened since then. I moved in January 2024 and installed permanent lights on my house: ruclips.net/video/ogfrC78DQyg/видео.html I only use the C9’s for ground lights now.
Hot glue or silicon on the backside. A few hours worth of work but will certainly extend the life of the pixels. A good summer/spring/fall indoor project on a day the weather is crappy.
Serious design flaw. at least the LED modules were encased in silicone. I have a few ws28xx 50 LED strings. I tested them when I first got them for 12 hours and then put them away. I put them up a couple years back and in less 2 days, I had 5 that were full on at a various colours. I bought what was supposed to be 12V LED strings. They would not work when connected to 12V supply, but did at 5V. I used Quindors DIG-UNO when I tested. The vendor kept saying that they were 12V. I took video of my tests and sent that in. All I got was 50% refund. I had to stop buying MOSFETs from aliexpress. Only my first order were the real parts. All 3 orders afterwards had 80% failure rate or higher. I used a component tester and sure enough, not within specs
I clicked links in the description for these bulbs but it went to ebay and showed several different auctions. Which bulbs are these? Would be handy to give a warning to give the brand in the desciption.
@@handydadtv I wasn't trying to order the ones you were warning about buying. The exact opposite. I figured if you were warning about them, you would say which brand you bought so that people wouldn't buy this specific brand, or at least be aware when ordering these whenever they order them.

I didn’t discuss the option of drilling a hole, but yes it’s a viable option.
It has been a year and I was wondering if you had any success coming up with a option to keep the water out?

@@handydadtv indeed you could have mounted the C9s under the soffit.

Thanks for the tips!
Good info.. Perhaps you could drill just a small hole in the very tip of each bulb?
That’s a good option.
The stand up clips look and work very well.
Thanks

This is why professional permanent lights are so expensive. They are made for quality and longevity, not just the cheap generic crap.
How did the ones in the garden /lawn hold up?
The garden lights were perfectly fine because they were pointing up.
I clicked links in the description for these bulbs but it went to ebay and showed several different auctions. Which bulbs are these? Would be handy to give a warning to give the brand in the desciption.
They’re out of stock. You’re too late this year for any kind of specialty lights. Hit it next year in September.

@StevenSroba Oh gotcha. No, I didn’t switch brands. I just live with the limitation.
I have big G35 bulbs and they have holes drilled in them.
I may go that route.
Is it illegal to put fences up between the houses in your area? How do ppl keep their dogs in their yards?
Yes, it’s one of many HOA rules. No fences. Dogs must be leashed. No Christmas lights before Black Friday. And so on.
That’s why I’m moving.
@@handydadtv yikes...fences make for great neighbors
@teutguy1 Yes indeed!
I just went and looked at all of my old C9 bulbs and every single one of them has two small holes drilled about 5mm from the tip of the bulb.
Smart! I’ll have to drill my own holes.
I bought my C9's from .holidaycoro and they are compliantly different and totally sealed. and are shipped form Texas so fast delivery.
They look too fat for gutter clips. How do you mount them?
@@handydadtv For my use (a Christmas tree) tie raps will work. for use may not work so well. They do sell sample bulbs for $1.49 each...
You could put hot glue on the back to seal it up.
Yes, it crossed my mind. I have 200 lights so it would take a while.
Drilling drain holes might be easier.
@@handydadtv If you can't keep the water out, help it get out. Haha. I have always enjoyed your videos. Keep up the great work.
Or silicone sealant as it might flow more easily around the wires?
Thanks 😊
thanks
My pleasure!
How to waterproof it?
Don’t hang them pointing down.
Just put a reef up
I don’t understand
