I said the same thing! I do not think her cake was that good. It looked store bought with some sprinkles and I just don't think no of there's was that good to be honest.

She had sprinkles of course she knew it was her cake. They needed a fourth non biased judge.

It was unfair because Daija intentionally gave everyone bad ratings, but gave herself 5’s after instantly recognizing her cake because of the sprinkles. So, of course she won. Didn’t really care for that. Same with Jazmine; she rated her own cake fairly, but lowered everyone else’s score. Mae was the only one who was fair, considerate, and who seems to give a good authentic judgement of everyone’s cakes. I keep saying these challenges need to be down with people who didn’t make the food, because of course the cooks are going to give themselves high scores and rate everyone else low. Have some people cook the food, then have OTHER PEOPLE taste & rate it. Otherwise, it’s just more people giving intentionally bad scores so they can win.
Can we talk about how sis had her mask covering her nose the entire time, said she couldn’t smell the cakes, and then to put the cherry on top, had her advice be “Bake by smell”(5:14)😭😭

The winner only won because she rated her self very high. There should have been other Southern bakers to try these cakes in order to have a totally fair assessment. The winner was extremely critical of the other two cakes because she knew they weren't hers, at least, that's how it appeared.
I thought it was dumb they even added their own ratings to their overall score. It was unfair in my opinion especially since she knew it was her own cake so obviously she’s gonna rate it high so she wins
They should tell them there are 4 contestants total and that they won’t be tasting their own cakes. They’ll think the three cakes they try are all from other people and will be more likely to rate honestly.
Agreed everyone tries 3 other cakes minus their own and rate at the end. These never made since the way the do them. But I do LoVE when they roast their own food 🤣

I don't think that the score they give their own food should count towards the final score. Daija gave herself 14 out of 15, which partly explains her massive score compared to the other two. That being said, her cake would have won anyway.

Blindfolds don't work. And it doesn't help when the producer provides confirmation to the participant when they have identified which cake was theirs. For example, producer asked one of the participants if they are overrating themselves, which defeats the whole purpose of blindfolds.

Sprinkles do not go on red velvet cake. Red velvet cake has a distinct taste. It’s not cake dyed red. If I remember correctly, my ma mixed her frosting with coconut flakes.

Why are they all so PINK? The southern red velvet cake I grew up eating is very dark red. It's a chocolate cake, just dyed red, so I can guess that all of these are missing that rich cocoa flavor. 😬
Oh Nah girl it is not chocolate cake just dyed red. There should read a hint of cocoa on the pallet but it should have more of a tangy buttermilk taste at the forefront. The flavor has more of a complexity than just chocolate
I have been scrolling for this exact response. That they could not smell it, or could not smell CHOCOLATE, unnerved me to no end. And unless you're baking some crazy huge cake, no cake needs a n extra 20 minutes.
@@lissihayray2227 I do not think that’s what the OG commenter meant tho. A true red velvet cake is a *chocolate based* cake with cocoa & red dye. That’s why it’s a deep rich red color. Not anything like the ones in these videos. The bases for these cakes screamed white or vanilla. The color was way too light which meant they for sure didn’t use cocoa at alllll. That’s also why they couldn’t taste any huge differences aside from sis’ ganache & sprinkles. Like what is that even doing on a RVC. ☠️☠️☠️

So think of it this way: If you make your cake from scratch you have to add the cocoa. If you just get a red velvet cake mix, it already (most likely) has it in it, so you don’t have to add the cocoa component. And most ppl (at least I think) just call it a chocolate base cake for rvc even tho we know it has cocoa in it cause whose bout to say the whole name like that☠️lol.

As a MS native, none of the cakes looked right and by all of their reviews they all missed the mark. My Grandmother would call this some mess.
I mean… I have never felt red velvet had an overwhelming taste or flavor. But there is something about the not really chocolate not really vanilla flavor that carries a good cream cheese frosting. All you have to do is make sure it’s moist and tender

Daija cheated because not only did she know it was hers but she wasn’t giving anything but a biased opinion. Jazmine on the other hand she did know it was her cake but she gave an honest opinion about it she didn’t give it higher scores just to win. The only one who probably just honestly didn’t know was Mae. Should of got another opinion on the cakes. Daija probably still would of won but it would of been truthful and honest.
I am willing to do this challenge against the winner. No sprinkles allowed and no cake mixes. We bake from scratch baby.

I use Monique's Divas Can Cook Red Velvet Cake recipe. Never made the cake in my life before, but I took that cake to a work potluck, and people were begging me to bring it back lol.

When you are baking with chocolate any kind of coffee will bring out the flavor
