- April 15 1995 was an incredible day for Mortal Kombat fans as MK3 was introduced to the world. Many people had mixed feelings about this one, myself included, but at the end of the day and 29 years later this game still holds a special place in my heart and in my memories. Watch as I revisit this amazing game yet again, and I play through the master tower with GREAT difficulty lol

Today is my birthday and 29 years ago I went to my local arcade for MK3’s release. Damn I’m old. Fun times.
The arcade version has not aged a day. No glitches, cool shadows, enough frames and detail, fast paced neckbreaking action with contemporary looking environments, no dated pop culture references.
Playing MK3 at Top-Dog until they closed at 11:00 P.M., then driving home from the arcade to play MK2 on your Sega Genesis or SNES (while dreaming about how the graphics at home might one day be as good as the coin-op.)
Nostalgia is truly the greatest prism from which to glimpse one's past...

Wow time really does go! I remember being shocked when this came out in Arcades back in the day growing up in Chicago. I remember just walking in to a local pizza place one time and seeing it in there and I couldn’t believe that a new MK was out. Of course this was 1995 so the only way you knew something was out was to go to the arcade, game store or magazine section somewhere or hear about it through somebody you knew. Internet was not a thing at the time. I love MK3 even despite not recognizing half of the characters at first glance 🤣. It’s not MK2 but it is still a damn good game. Long live MK3!!! 🎊🎊🎉🎉

I loved this game as a kid in the arcades
One thing about MK3 I was really happy with was Sega Genesis port. For me it was a breath of fresh air because I absolutely hated how Probe ported MK1 and 2, there was just too much missing for me to enjoy it, and I hated the music. But Sculptured Software did MK3 right by included most of the voices and doing the music more accurately. Thank you SS, I hope you made more money than Probe did

When MK3 hit the arcades I used to love watching others play, but never dropped a quarter into it. I just sucked at the combo system and figured why waste the money. Game is awesome though. Love playing it on my mame cab on free play!
My only gripe is I thought the fatalities were very lazy. 90% were body explosions, and body chop ups were just a cross section of the fighters sprite (no new animation).
Liked how MKT made the explosions funny with the over exaggerated body part count (8 rib cages 6 skulls lol).

The first time I saw this, I distinctly remember the sound and music blaring through the area. Shao Kahn's voice and the background music to be more specific.
Shao Khans powerful voice carrying over in the arcades was one of the greatest things to hear as a teenager 👊🏼
Happy anniversary MK3! While my first intro to MK was UMK3 on the Sega Saturn, this is the game it was born from and gave me lots of intense fights, colourful characters, memorable music, haunting atmosphere and pure escapism! Fab playthrough as ever! WELL DONE Shang Fun! 👊👊📢📢📢📢

Dude, it's not weird. I have super fond memories of these games as well, they were literally my teen years. I get it, trust me. I really need to get one of the Arcade1Ups so I can teach my kids how to play (although I'm not very good, lol)
Some of the cabinets were released early, because I remember some of them being out by April 4.
My first experience with it was at the Camelot Golfland Anaheim, CA. I knew some of the stuff about it already because I had been keeping up with the development of it through the game magazines. My new faves for this one were Cyrax and Kabal. But I was pretty upset there was no Scorpion and Raiden and SUPER upset about no Johnny Cage! But I figured he wouldn't be in it because of the Daniel Pesina/Bloodstorm fiasco, lol. It definitely felt incomplete, so it wasn't surprising to find out that there was an update coming. Man, the 90s were definitely great times, and this trilogy of games is definitely one of the things that made it great.
Blows my mind. I remember getting evwry game magazine I could just to get news and pics for MK3... and it's been just about 3 decades. Blows. My. Mind.
I remember seeing it in the arcade. What an awesome game.
Man I remembered the first time I played that MK3 cab. Was at an airport bar with parents, asked for money and walked up to try. Picked Liu Kang. Suddenly the character was running at me pulling off these multiple hit combos. Lost my coins on the second fight.
Years later beat the snes port spamming Kanos cannonball.

I was only 12 when vanilla MK3 made it's debut in arcades. Now, at 41, my age often comes as a surprise to people, as I look younger than my years.

@@BushyStallion Well, I eat a variety of vegetables, with broccoli and carrots being my top choices. I also consume a lot of fish, including tuna, and drink decaffeinated green tea on a daily basis. However, I do enjoy fried foods from time to time, and I don't eat red meat every day. I don't drink alcohol frequently, but I do smoke weed on a daily basis.
Shit were have time went to....love to hear everyone's first time experience I were also very excited and love the 3rd installment to this day...How do u top a excellent Mortal Kombat 2 at the time? I thought they did really well in number 3 to keep the fan base..and Arcades feeling. To me the best of the 90's all the way to 2024. The arcade game sounds and feeling blend in with a mix of sounds and arcade buttons. O what an era. Shout out to you my friend thanks for this. I'll see ya in outword..

Yeah I remember mk3. It seemed unfinished. Everyone was pissed about scorpion being gone. That was a huge mistake. Ultimate mk3 should have been vanilla mk3. It would have been insane if it was.
Vanilla MK3 has better presentation (I mean, just look at the endings), compared to Ultimate and Trilogy (Ultimate got the better gameplay at the cost of a generic look to the endings, Trilogy was a bizzare mixbag of both vanilla and Ultimate MK3... at least on NON-N64 versions when it comes to the endings, as some characters from Ultimate, MK1 and MK2 got the vanilla MK3 character treatment in that regard... like Scorpion and Raiden), but let's face it, this vanilla release was just the start of something bigger overall.
No way this is vanilla 😂. How about strawberry ice cream or just neapolitan ice cream. I hate chocolate ice cream! So there you go lol.

One of my friends had it on MS-DOS and we played all day. My parents later bought me UMK3 for the SNES and I was very happy, until a year later I got a PSX and MK Trilogy and then I felt complete :D

Sheesh, whenever I speak or talk, I sometimes either stutter or stumble over my words, which I hate lol. The worse is when you say a certain word that you've said before, you all of a sudden mispronounce it, strangely. You try to correct yourself and still say it incorrectly lmao! That's embarrassing and here comes the silent awkward stares from people and so on.

The cyborgs random grenades & teleport moves are mostly left to rust for even existing.

Is there a different way to unlock smoke on MK3 cabinets?
Absolutely. Are you familiar with the EJB menu? It’s a code that worked on arcade cabs and every version of this game to date, you input it during the attract mode at the beginning and it opens up a ton of options. I made a video showing how several months ago. Check it out if you get a chance 👊🏼
