This is JUST the video I needed! ☺️ I am currently re-reading all of Chris d’Lacey’s - the last dragon series to do a book talk on them all! They were my favourite series as a child!
I just read a book called "Four Wings of the Dragon Goddess" By Theodora Quinn. It had Dragons and time travel which for me is my two favorite things. It felt like I was being led through a D&D campaign as I read it. Unique experience.
Dragon Lance felt like (Off that ruddy movie...) it was just going to generic heroes vs. dragons, but after I sat down and read Dragons of Summer Flame I blown away by how complex Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis managed to make the D&D dragons the Tiamat incarnation included. Honest I adored Steel Brightblade and his Blue dragon Blaze. They were like the Anti-hero pre-incarnation of Eragon and Saphira! (I didn't read the the books in the mid yet. Don't judge me.) Besides Wings of Fire being a YA all-dragons series, I can't get over just under-looked How to Train Dragon's books are. Cressida Cowell clearly love The Hobbit and Wizard of Earthsea but her dragons became my standard for fantasy dragons. I can't get over how Amazing Furious the Dragon was!
I love your passion for dragon books. Tooth and Claw is a lot of fun, and I giggle when I read about them wearing wigs and bonnets. Also, I love Temeraire! I need to read book three, but he’s my favorite dragon.
I think I have said this one before, but I am particularly fond of the dragons in The Immortals Quartet by Tamora Pierce ( starting with Wild Magic). They are not main characters for the most part, but worth investing in the read to meet them. Not everyone likes Anne McCaffrey’s books but I do, and I actually recommend you start with her YA aimed books which starts with Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and Dragondrums. It’s not a common starting point but I love those ones. I read many of the ones you talk about but happy to see some I can still try.
I *am* planning a dragon in the story/novel(s) I am writing (spoiler! which no one will have read/remember if and when I finish/publish it), but I feel like if I wasn't already planning it, I might have been tempted to sneak one in just to make it more appealing to you xD (PS: there are also faeries)
My new dragon "crush" is Fyrian from The Girl Who Drank the Moon, he's a total love bug! Have you ever read Anne McCaffrey's Pern books? I have read & reread them so many times. And finally, I immediately put Heartstone on my library request list, sounds right up my alley! Loved this video as I obviously share your love of dragons ❤🐲
Soo many great recommendations! I can't wait to read all of these! The only book on this list I've read is Temeraire; so I'm still relatively new to the dragon genre :)
I think I predicted almost every one of these books, because you've raved about them before xD Still haven't read most, but every time you mention them, they get more enticing :P (Except The Queen of Ieflaria which already went to the top of my wish list the first time you mentioned it)
E.E. Knight's "Age of Fire" series (beginning with "Dragon Champion") is entirely told from the viewpoint of dragons, and it's one of my favorites of all time. It seems to be rather obscure, as I almost never see the series mentioned on dragon book recommendation lists. Great video!
I really want to read the Naomi Novik series! I can never find the first book in my library or bookstores though 😭 I loved this video Jean! I’ve not read much about dragons but I always love the idea of them.
I love so many of these books! I grew up on The Hobbit and The Fire Within series (both of those books made my little middle school self feel SO MANY THINGS) and I read Seraphina in 2018 and was absolutely in love in every way. My library has Tooth and Claw and I just reserved it!
This video brought me so much joy!! Chris D'Lacy's book is one of my absolutely favourites from childhood. I distinctly remember going go my local waterstones and buying later books in the series!
YES YES I was literally just wishing you'd make an updated dragon video! I was wondering, did you read the Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman? The mc's love interest is a dragon in that one, and they go on fun librarian adventures together. It's also one of those books where the dragons can assume human form. And if you're looking for a middle grade dragon series, I'd highly recommend the Wings of Fire series, which has also been adapted into graphic novels. I loved the Eragon books as a kid; they definitely got me into fantasy as a genre. I did read the first Temeraire book a while ago but never continued the series--this is a good reminder to me to pick those back up! The Rain Wild Chronicles are sooooo good; I need to reread those, too.
mwarrrrrr!!! Temeraire... I've got to get back into that, and Tooth and Claw I never heard of, so will have to check into that. One I thought interesting, part of a 4 book series, but only personally read part 1 is "The Dragon DeLaSangre" having dragons capable of human form taking place in modern-day Miami. Lastly, although a movie, "I Am Dragon" is a wonderfully-done Russian film. Thanks for sharing this list; regarding intelligence and not always being evil; it's a more rare depiction, unfortunately.
What a lovely video, thank you Jean. I guess my favourite would be faeries books, but with faes like in Lord of the Rings, or in Holly Black books, not just nice and good creatures. I would love to find some good books with mermaids, as they are maybe the fantastic creatures I love the most, but I’ve never found a good fantasy book with mermaids yet... Do you have any recommendations for me ? Oh ! And witches of course ! Some recommendations with witches would be lovely as well pretty please !
I had so much fun with Heart Stone! I also read Temeraire because of your last dragon book video and now the series is one of my favorites of all time! I would love to read the In the Vanisher's Palace, it sounds awesome!
I really liked the Heartstriker series by Rachel Aaron, the first book being Nice Dragons Finish Last. It's of the dragons who can take human form variety, set in a really interesting slightly alternate near future where magic one day just flooded back into the world. Also there is a character who is a ghost cat.
I really love, and I mean LOVE, Las Crónicas de la torre and Memorias de Idhun by Laura Gallego. She is a spanish author and she wrote a great dragons books. I'm not pretty sure if they're in english, I think so. I recomend you if you love dragons, especially if you love dragons who can comunicate with humans. Actually in this books the dragons are so relate it to humans. Really amazing books which deserve more attention
Love this! Dragons are my favorite mythological creature as well. Tooth and Claw is absolutely amazing. 💕 Have you heard of the anthology of dragon short stories coming out later this year called The Book of Dragons? I have it preordered and I'm so excited!
Other recs would be how to train your dragon books by cressida Cowell, the last dragon chronicle by Chris d'lacy (both middle grade) talon by Julie kagawa sounds really good (though I haven't read it) and is YA. The realm of the elderlings by Robin Hobb also has dragons in it (adult series).
I love dragons and gargoyles statues and medieval books and movies ,love you and support you, love you and I care about you are beautiful looking lady too you are full of love and passion and beauty and kindness and wisdom!
Knowing you love Alise from Dragon Keeper, you might really enjoy the Memoirs of Lady Trent series by Marie Brennan. The dragons are not sentient (at least at first, I don't want to spoil the fun), but the struggle of a female dragon naturalist in a society similar to 19th century Britain is absolutely a blast. It's my favourite series of all times. Perfection as much as Tooth and Claw.
Yeah I read half of book one and couldn’t get into it because of the animalistic dragons 😭 one day I’d like to return to it and try to read it as more historical comedy of manners fiction than fantasy so I’m not disappointed and can appreciate it for what it is
You need to read The Summer Dragon by Todd Lockwood. These dragons are amazing! There are both types. Sentient and animal style. But I can’t really explain much without giving spoilers but it is my absolute favorite Dragon book ever! Beautiful story.
A friend of mine recently self-published a book called Burning Stars: Afterdark and I really recommend giving that a look see! It combines scifi and dragons and no humans to be seen
Adore The Hobbit and everything about JRRT's Middle Earth!!! :-) Guards! Guards! ... Once you've read it, you'll never look at the dragons same way again. :-D ruclips.net/video/MM1xyQMHfeI/видео.html is still the best video that continues to introduce people to the amazing universe of Discworld and inspire them to take on the adventure. :-) Going back to the subject of Dragons, have you read these (and if you have, what did you think about them): - The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon - The Neverending Story by Michael Ende - Dragons at Crumbling Castle by Sir Terry Pratchett
Dragon of Ash & Stars: The Autobiography of a Night Dragon by H. Leighton Dickson is a stunning book - very Black Beauty in style and is purely from the POV of a dragon throughout different iterations of his life. LOVED it.
Have you read Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series? Wonder what you think of them... I love anything that includes bonding of some kind between human and animals/mythical creatures...
I'm really undecided whether to read them or not. I used to want to because they seem to be classics in this genre but then loads of review have highlighted some really outdated depictions of sexual violence and ambiguous consent in them that I'd rather avoid.
@@JeansThoughts I can see where some reviews might go there, though in my personal opinion I don't remember those instances being that strong. It is a more feudal society so some depictions were harsher. Then again I started reading this series in 4th grade and it has forever been one of my all time favorites. I'm currently re-reading it in chronological rather than publication order and I might have to jump back and update my thoughts. But I would say if you wanted to give the series a try, I would recommend reading what my mother first gave me in the series. The mini-trilogy Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, Dragondrums. While not as full on dragon relevant as some of the other books, it does have fire lizards as central characters and Menolly is one of my all time favorite book characters. This series focuses on the Harper Hall (the musicians of the land) and gives a good overall understanding of the world as a whole.
@@JeansThoughts Yes i totally understand. I read them 20+ years ago when I was a lot younger and so I think overlooked those aspects more easily, Reading Merphy Napier's 1 star review of Dragonflight on Goodreads was an eye opener, as I don't remember any of the scenes she'd highlighted! I want to reread them and see what I think now. But I did really love them at the time mainly for the world building and the dragons. I reread the White Dragon (which was my favourite from what I remember) last year and gave it 4.5 stars and the half a star was dropped mainly for the problematic relationship/consent side of things.
Did you say Eragon has the Urk-Hai in it? I read the first two books, thought they were identical, and stopped, but I don't remember LOTR orcs. Maybe I forgot
I recommend Dragon's Keep and Dragonswood by Janet Lee Carey. I loved them when I read them, only companion novels but I'd read Dragon's Keep first. ❤️
I don't know if you are looking for more dragon book recommendations but I would recommend the Draconis Memoria trilogy by Anthony Ryan. The first book being The Waking Fire, followed by The Legion of Flame and finally The Empire of Ashes.
i just watched your video if know one has told you the next books you should read is the dragons of pern dragon flight is the first in the series i think its the best book series ive ever read o/
Does anyone know the title of a book/series where there is a dragon that turns into a frog for not acting like a dragon? It is a core memory from my childhood, but I can’t find out what the book is! Thanks in advance for your help
the thing is there are good and evil dragons right? So i dont mind sometimes reading a book with an evil dragon in it but mostly i'm like you and like my dragons good
Ok so, does anyone know what this book is? Like 12 years ago I read a short (maybe 200-350 pages) dragon book, and I've been trying to remember what it was called ever since. That is my ALL TIME favorite dragon series!
I love that book! Have you read?

Wings of Fire is a great series where the dragons are the sole focus and protagonists.

I'd definitely recommend Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison if you haven't already read it- It's one of my favourite series' of all time!
I'm glad someone mentioned this series! I was going to recommend it myself if no one had.

Have you read the Talking To Dragons books by Patrica C Wrede? They used to be my favorites when I was a very young teen.
Love this! Dragons are my favorite mythological creature as well. Tooth and Claw is absolutely amazing. 💕 Have you heard of the anthology of dragon short stories coming out later this year called The Book of Dragons? I have it preordered and I'm so excited!
i love the priory of the orange tree and really want to read in the vanishers' palace!
Thank you for these recommendations:) LOVED Eragon!! And wait there are short stories?! I didn't know that:O
Oh my gosh yes! They came out last year!
Omg Jean couldn’t click on this video quick enough, thank you 😍

Heartstone sounds really interesting. I need to check that one out! 😊
Shout out for little Errol in Guards Guards who essentially farts and saves the day ❤️
Pratchett is a genius.
I'm going to check these books out. I've never read much about dragons.
The video I have been waiting for! 😍🐉

- The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
- The Neverending Story by Michael Ende
- Dragons at Crumbling Castle by Sir Terry Pratchett
I recently brought Eragon in the Works sale and i cannot wait to get around to it soon :-)
Yas, excellent find!
Dragon of Ash & Stars: The Autobiography of a Night Dragon by H. Leighton Dickson is a stunning book - very Black Beauty in style and is purely from the POV of a dragon throughout different iterations of his life. LOVED it.

I loved Seraphina. Still need to read the sequel.
My favourite dragon is the one in The Girl Who Drank the Moon. He's so cute and awesome.
I loved book two even more than Seraphina! It’s so good ☺️
I should read some more dragon stuff! At least I have Eragon amongst my unread books 😀
You should look into Hearstrikers series by Rachel Aaron .. I listened to it on audible and it's pretty awesome

The Ballad of Sir Benfro!
What about Dragons in America? People always write stories with dragons in Europe or Asia, but what if dragons came to America?
No Requiem books?
Ok so, does anyone know what this book is?
Like 12 years ago I read a short (maybe 200-350 pages) dragon book, and I've been trying to remember what it was called ever since.
The premise is a woman/virgin was sacrificed to a dragon. It turned out that the dragon could shapeshift into a person, and didn't actually want to eat the woman or do anything else to her. The book is told from the perspective of the woman. Together, they go on a quest and become a couple.
That's all I remember, does anyone know what book it is?
I know it's a long shot, but I figured that the comment section is going to be all about dragon books anyway.
It sounds somewhat like “Dragon’s Bait” by Vivian Vande Velde
Laura Diaz that’s it! I remember that cover! Thank you!
It has been quite a while since I read them but I remember liking the Anne McCaffrey Dragon Riders of Pern books
Read How to Train a Dragon please. Awesome!!
No mention of The Dragon Lords trilogy by Jon Holllins - incomplete list.
I mean it is 100% an incomplete list of all dragon book aha - it is however a complete list of my favourite dragon books :P
I would highly recommend how to train your dragon series.trust me.you will thank me later
