I am not burned out at all, but then I am a collector and builder/painter. I stay fresh by doing conversions. In fact I am currently building that Baneblade with Basilisks mounted on top as a personal challenge. I call it Tankenstein! Thanks for that inspirational photo!
You know what burns me out ? Having just about every army I own squatted away in one way or another. I have a space wolf and DA army and with rebasing and legends most of them are just trashed. I’d need to spend thousands to fix them. That burns me out , as does them arbitrarily changing unit sizes and load outs so my armies are no longer legal or even able to be played , that also burns me out. Adding fuel to the fire now I hear my only kept up to date marine force of deathwatch is going to be gutted and tossed in a codex collection with agents of the imperium. So even my kept up army has been trashed now or will soon be trashed. The only army they haven’t been able to upset me with is the xenos ones as they don’t care as much about them and the imperial guard as I just have so many models they can’t really screw me over totally. GW burns me out , rules being good or bad doesn’t bother me nearly as much as squatting my armies or rendering hundreds of dollars or thousands of dollars worth of models into legends. Love the community , love when I play a game , hate GW as simple as that for me.
Variety is the spice of life. I am not just a 40k guy. I am also an Old World guy. And a Battlefleet Gothic guy. And a Malifaux guy. And soon to be a Marvel Crisis Protocol guy. There is way, way more to the world of miniature wargaming than just 40k.
I have built this one space marine army on and off for like 5 or 6 years, literally just to kitbash and scrap-build stuff, mainly cos I need something to flit to and from when I hit a mental block or find myself too apathetic to continue a project. The Void Jackels are now over 5000 pts and growing. I don't care if none of it is actually legal to play or even playable in the future. I just do me, and at some point, I'll get bored and add like 1000 pts of scrap built outriders and 2000 pts of scrap built grav tanks and flyers. It's basically a piratical chapter of Mad Max/Fallout Raider gangs that do what they want, using space wolf rules. I _was_ toying with the idea of making some wulfen, but as cyborg monstrosities instead of flesh warped werewolves. Couldn't actually be bothered to buy all the claws and buzzsaws I'd need, though, so that idea was put on hold.
Can confirm, bolt action kits are great for making you appreciate GW kits in terms of instructions and sprue layouts. Though on the other hand I've found them rather enjoyable to build and a very nice breath of fresh air to paint
Interesting to read a different point of view. I always found it the other way around, the face the GW kits that are so compex and counter-intuative to make they need instructions to even stand a chance makes me appreaciate the bolt action kits being strightforward enough not to need any instructions.
@@ZhukovsBoots I found the lack of numbers on the sprues etc threw me off as well as not necessarily clear images on where things were supposed to go or what was in the current step or the previous one. Some of the pieces are also really tiny
No burnout yet, although I was not fokusing on the game aspect of 40k for a while, when My regular play group fell apart. So my focus shifts between playing, building and lore over and ober again, while I try to keep up on the games development with podcasts, streams etc. even when I'm not actively playing. That way, 40k remains an important factor in my life, butcI also don't fall to far into any of the rabbit holes.
It is too competitively focused, it's why i'm switching gear to old world so I can enjoy something that isn't centred entirely around tuned lists. I like to be competitive, I don't like having to buy x3 of a model every 3 months because it's the new thing to be doing.
I dunno, Sir. It's summer, finally warm in continental Europe. I don't want to learn 10.5 now. I don't want to pay for a new mission deck. Maybe the fun returns once winter is back. Maybe it won't. The only sad thing about it to me is, that your existence depends on our interest in this hobby. However I will decide, I wish you well :)

...someone help this new guy make a list to build. Namely: fix this one. I got a rex to test if I'll complete a model, and to get me up to enough points to play. So he can sit in and fill points until I learn more what to fill my list with it it's stead. Consider it a superheavy filling in. List: Lord solar Canis rex 3x 20man Krieg infantry 10 caterchans (spare points) 10 death riders 2x hydra 2x hellhounds 2x basilisk 1x manicure
5:30 its the devil horns/angel halo effect (it works both ways), when you mind for whatever reason wants something to be good or bad (often from either a first impression or a single strong instance), your mind then looks explicitly for ways to confirm it (its a subset of confirmation bias). Basically one sufficiently bad thing (even if you don't consciously remember it) sets it off and your brain looks to prove it true. The scientific method incidentally is designed to combat confirmation bias because you're trying to prove yourself wrong among other things. (when properly followed which social sciences rarely do)

I do something similar with my Nids. I try a different painting technique with everything new unit/monster

Get some friends and play 4th edition! The books are surprisingly easy to find online, both in print and pdf.
That’s a way to do it but the friends who would do that , don’t partially have much time to play.
Tbh mate youve restored my warhammer hobby.. been collecting since late 90's and im doing my first tournament this year.

OPR my friends. Such a good cleanse I never went back haha!
This could easily be applied to many things in life.
I’d recommend Mantic as a palette cleanser - it’s quick, simple and there are some lovely models to enjoy

If I get burnt out I watch a full Mordian Glory stream, motivation restored!
Horus heresy game system helps.

I love switching between age of sigmar and 40k both in games and hobby. Slap chopping my Seraphon is a nice break from the 40k edge highlighting
