- EP3 of Lancia Montecarlo Scorpion EV conversion
Bench test (in the car) of the electric car components. tesla parts, EV west parts, hyper9. I also explain what the EV parts are and cost if you were to do it yourself.
The Lancia Montecarlo was just featured in the final episode of grand tour with Jeremy Clarkson.
Next episode will hopefully be driving the car.

Super sweet project, will definitely be sticking around!
Lancia Montecarlo EV......my dream car :)
Shows the bus where the the LPG tanks venting....
a lancia in the US? that's quite the interesting conversion project. looking forward to seeing how you solve this puzzle.
also, the sticker shock is real
Yea there was something like 1,200 sold here (if I remember correctly).
Hell yeah! Thanks for giving it to me in pigs and bunnies, I've struggled to get my head around this stuff in the past!
I'm glad it made sense. I also struggled trying to figure this all out.
@@DECOM_EV A scary thing in the UK the law says you can not drill new hols to hold components down Eg battery boxed in the trunk/boot can only be glued down....
That seriously scares the C&*P out of me aka 200kg battery.... in an impact that 200kg now becomes 500kg 600kg ???kg ect Glue failure & due to inertia is now heading for survivors in the car...
@@kylereese4822 Yea, that is crazy restrictive for a battery box planning/design. Hopefully they update that law or amend it for EV conversions
I don't see the EV Wild West ending anytime soon but I'm still crossing my fingers that batteries will advance just a little more and get a little cheaper so I have a chance to take part in it. My car has a Freewheel in the transmission and I think an EV with a centrifugal clutch would be really cool!
Yeah, cheaper and better. Batteries are definitely coming at some point. Centrifugal clutch would be pretty cool. The market will eventually get to a point where instead of adapting gas car parts to electric, there will be standalone electric parts like you're saying
Yeah, more aftermarket parts would be awesome, But my Sonett already has said clutch. It's a normal four speed manual transition, but because it was originally meant for two stroke engines, it has a few extra features. The engine grenading itself would be bad for PR, so under any engine breaking circumstance, the freewheel mechanism will disengage the engine from the transmission. When Saab switched over to the Ford V4 engines, they kept this as a fuel saving feature. So you could be coasting in gear While the engine was idling, and it wouldn't re-engage with the transmission until you gave it enough gas to match the speeds, and then the drive dogs would re-engage. The truth is I just think they were too lazy to redesign the system. But I'm glad they left it in there because I think it'd be really cool for EVs because this transmission already has methods for it to be shifted without a normal clutch. Conveniently, the hand lever that allows the free wheel to function or locks it in entirely is right next to the clutch pedal. coincidence, I think not. One day, when I have the time and money to fight this battle, the only thing that will hold me back is 70s metallurgy. These things were not happy with the meger 65 horsepower they got. But I'm going to school for manufacturing and machining, and I've got a lathe, so eventually I'll have the tools to tackle this. I guess the only other problem is that it's an absolute fiberglass death trap that's smaller than my Miata.
Awesome video; awesome work. But just a FYI: half of your fires in the intro are not EV fires.
Thanks and looks like I can't blindly trust the Internet when I search: EV car fire
@@DECOM_EV The white Bus the LPG tanks are venting flames....
This is great, very simple. I've browsed Hyper9's website a bunch of times and ended up more confused that I started. This is a really straightforward explanation, I'll be following the build! What's your take on taking apart a salvage EV? Why didn't you go down that route?
Thanks for the comment. I didn't buy a salvage for two reasons. 1) you don't really know the condition of the EV parts when you're buying it. 2) it makes for an even bigger project in scope. For my first build I wanted to make it as easy as possible
How much is that approx in Europe? 20k Euro s? Due to import ofbthe Tesla parts? Thx Joe
