Woah, it looks amazing. You definitely improved it so much by adding the pattern on the sleeves, the dress looks like it was meant to be that way all along.
I do have a trick for sewing slippery fabrics! I reuse some tissue paper (that Ive saved from Xmas/birthday gifts etc.) To stabilize it. Works like a dream, rips off easily, aaaannd, any leftover bits will literally come out in the wash 😁
Do you put the tissue paper on top of the fabric, touching the presser foot? Or do you put it underneath, up against the machine itself? Also, do you just pin the paper to the garment?
Thank YOU so much! 💗 I taught myself how to sew when I was 38 & truly believe that if I can do it, anyone can! 🧵 Learning (& teaching) should be fun & refashioning truly has no "rules" - if an idea works then go with it. If not then simply try something else 😁
Omg your energy is just so fun! I bought a beautiful little summer dress from a retro clothing shop in Glasgow last summer (airline lost my luggage so I decided to use it as an excuse to go thrifting haha). I have kind of big arms and the sleeves are just a bit tight around the bottom so I’m looking for ways to fix that so it’s more comfortable. This gives me some ideas!

I agree, slippery fabric is a nightmare. It won't stay together and the sewing machine like to eat it. But wow! You did another amazing sleeve upcycle. the thing that surprised me was increasing the armhole. I didn't think that would work. But it came out beautiful. Thanks for a new tool in my upcycling tool box.
Agreed! It really made the dress look like it all belonged together instead of 2 random garments sewn together at the waist 🤭 Refashioning is such a fab way to keep our creativity flowing & create our dream wardrobe on a budget too! I've shared lots of upsizing DIYs on my channel: bit.ly/3ZJwJfU and even more on my blog: bit.ly/3H7bg8z
Absolutely 😃 I've shared many tutorials showing how to do that in my upsizing playlist: ruclips.net/p/PL7dZmqeknPlgJVbHv_tSxrR7VXJGxXgLO&si=R6wDebkSdcSqN1Ef
Hi, Thx for your ideas. For slippery fabric, one trick to try is to cover the seam with tissue paper. You can pin all the layers easily. After sewing, the tissue paper can be ripped off. When I tried it years ago, it was to help the machine grab the slippery fabric. You could also prob put 3 layers of tissue paper, if necessary: one under the fabric, one between & one over top. Experiment. Note - sewing thro any paper will dull your needle faster than fabric. Sue in Ontario
I enjoy watching your videos but I confess, I'm still stuck in the 70s because I'm still using inches to measure! Thankfully, most tape measures have metric and standard so I don't have to do math!
I am making a jean jacket from a pair of jeans. There are several issues that I hope you can help me with. I cut the chest/top part of the jeans, measured the neck and back openings and cut them out. Now, my issue is that the underarms were not cut correctly - even though I measured like I was supposed to. The front pieces are over the edge of the back pieces. I know that the front pieces are to be a bit smaller than the back. I figured out how to do that and fixed that problem. The sleeves in the video were for flat guy jeans. I didn’t know that it would be a problem because I have used long, narrow cut spandex like fabric. The sleeve length did not coordinate with the video measurements. So, I’ve taken flat jean pieces from my stash and am trying to figure out how to make them sleeves. As this project isn’t made by a pattern, how can I use the sleeves I have now to fit the underarms of the diy vest? If you decide to help me, I can take photos and send them to you to help you see what I’ve done. Thank you for your consideration of my problem. I hope to hear from you soon. Have you ever made a video about diy jeans to jacket? That would be helpful if you did and spend some time explaining about jean sizes and measurements to fit what that jacket could call for. Elizabeth
Refashioning can definitely be hilariously frustrating at times but that's when we get to use our creativity the most! 🤩 I actually DID make a jacket from a pair of jeans & shared the tutorial on my blog back in 2014, here's the link: bit.ly/3XCZXff You can also check out my DIY sleeve tutorials to see if any of those may help as well: bit.ly/3HvIfV7
I have no idea 🤣 I'm not a professional, am entirely self-taught & simply create what I see in my head 😊 please share a link to your gusset tutorial once it's published, I'm always up for learning new techniques

Oh thank you 😍 it's absolutely an amazing improvement!
I love how this turned out. It looks like a much more expensive garment. And the fit is perfect.
Upsizing it really improved it in every way possible! 😊

I wasn't sure it would work & had a back up plan if it didn't ✂️🧵 luckily it was a grand success!😀
I've been dreaming of upsizing clothing because I've gained too much weight, but this made the dress look better, the better fit is just a bonus!!

This video has been very helpful. Thank you so much. Is it possible to insert the extra fabric under the arm instead of above it?

Yet another thing that I completely LOVE and WILL do!
