On certain older data east games, you can death save even with a really sensitive tilt. anything from rocky and bulwinkle to tales from the crypt it's usually doable. anything before or after those good luck not getting a warning.
The death save looks more like a friggin tilt 😂 The most fun I ever had as a kid was on a Simpsons machine with a broken tilt. I worked out (pun intended) that I could lift the front of the machine up and roll the balls back into play. They're not light when ya like 14 though. Came home with sore arms and a big bruise on my leg from liftin the machine up all day. Played all day on a dollar or 2 though 😁😂🤣
I do one i call the "stop and go", that's like the drop catch, except if you time it right, the ball will come to a dead stop. then you can take your shot. excellent video!!! trying to explain these to people is really hard!!!
That "death save" will cause a Tilt on even the most insensitive table. What real players do it is slap the opposite side to keep the ball out of the Outlane in the first place.
Great video and showing each move a few times is much appreciated. Some of these I have been doing and didn’t even know there is a name for them. Lots I haven’t seen. Also made it interesting with the different machines used to change the landscape.
I was thinking the same thing. They also on some of the modern machines have a sway sensor in the machine. When you do that hard move it activates and deactivates the flippers so you cannot save the ball.
There's a move I like but I dunno if there's a name for it, when the ball is flying down towards the flippers at a high rate of speed towards the middle, I hit one flipper then the other and the ball bounces off both flippers and ricochets back up.
I think that's just called NOT being a noob at pinball lol, or NOT double flipping. But I guess you could call it a "flipper save" or something if you want to sound fancy to your friends :p
It is mentioned that Shooter Lane Cradle is "Illegal" which, of course, is not entirely true. It is although BANNED in almost all tournament play. It would be nice if you also gave the same info for Shooter Lane Juggle, Death Save and Bang Back which also are BANNED in almost all tournament play.
5:30 never seen that before, looks painful to your wrists after awhile. I only done a few death saves before, it's fun but unfair in multiplayer game. Useful vid, I shared this video to my pin-pals.
Wow! I’m a rookie I never knew there’s so much skills involved. Please don’t bash me lol. I played pinball at the arcades as a kid and I didn’t know how to play, but had fun winning tickets. Anyways, nice video!
Im not sure if its considered a technique but pressing one flipper button on the flipper closest to the ball, followed by the other flipper button a fraction of a second later. Can save some really iffy balls that are about to drain down the center. But pressing both down at the same time is not recommended as others have mentioned
You can change the tilt mechanics, externally! It's still cheating. There is a conical weight surrounded by a metal ring.If the weight touches the outer ring...TILT. Don't let the owner see this: pick up the machine and drop it HARD. Sometimes the weight will slide down the shaft that is holding it. NO TILT.
Some people are really good and they can actually grab the ball with the flipper when the ball is coming towards it and not let it roll up the flipper. The drop catch here wasn't quite like that but its pretty good nonetheless. If you're really good, you can do the tip shot after you've mastered the drop catch.
Its Important to know how much tilt warnings are allowed. You need 1-3 tilt warnings to do a death save and in tounaments it is forbidden and the machine will tilt anyway if the tilt are installed corectly.
Its more about aiding the ball to move faster to the center drain by starting with a light nudge on the right side as its moving towards the center. Then with the added momentum another gentle nudge on the left side as the ball hits the center drain. Remember to have your left flipper raised. Trick is the first nudge to get the ball moving fast enough that you dont need a big push to get it back into play.
I wondered the same. Hard enough to get a table in an arcade here (AU) you can nudge and the levellers are screwed all the way out doesnt help. Such a shame Nice Video
Yes, Dark knight is fairly forgiving, at least the one I played so that move might be harder to pull of on other tables. Also I just want to mention that it most of the time is very hard to pull off at full speed. But as long as you aren't at a tournament it's worth a shot.
Very cool!! All the guys I knew that were wizards must have understood all these tricks by some intuitive reflex response. Pinball is a great game. The only one I was ever good at was the Microsoft Windows animated pinball game. 🎮
I thought that flippers were digital, not analog... I mean, I though that when you press the flipper's button it would travel all the distance instead only a few milimieters.
Depends on the brand I guess. I have a Stern machine and it's indeed digital. I still think the flick pass should work on a digital flipper, but I'm going to have to try that later.
The trick you're calling a "bangback" is just another method for what's called a death save. I've never seen someone do it by slamming one of their hands into the machine and honestly I don't know that it's even practical. You'd have to be able to react to the ball going into an outlane then position your hand correctly to smack the machine. All this requires a lot of movement when traditionally the death save was done by a hard nudge or movement of the machine with the hands or pelvis which doesn't require you to take a hand off of your flipper button. Also as someone else already pointed out a lot of the new machines have much more sensitive tilt mechanisms that basically prevent all death saves so I don't know if it's really all that relevant of a technique anymore in regards to modern play. Also I think it's worth mentioning that a few of these techniques such as the post pass and cradle seperations won't work on all machines. If the post isn't close enough to the flipper it's much harder or even impossible to do them reliably. Once again quite a few of the newer machines are designed this way such as Ghostbusters.
even before i saw this video, i was trying 'death save / bang back' on digital zaccharia pinball tables, 0 (zero) success, lol. thx for sharing, have fun, godspeed
Does anybody have any advice for getting out of side drains? I try nudging, I try bopping the table, but nothing hardly ever seems to work. Obviously I understand I should be preventing the ball from going there in the first place, but is there anything I can do once it's already gotten to that point?
You gotta learn how to nudge. Imagine you're moving the table and not the ball, so you gotta hit the ball back to the flippers with those rubber things.
I've never understood what the nudging is doing. Also I never bothered to learn "Back Bang/Dead Saves" because they aren't really a legal thing to do so what's the point if the game isn't legitimate?
Kinda feel like nudging is fucked up to do to any machine owned by someone who is not yourself, playing pinball machines alone damages them over time. I don't don't know about you, but I'd be pretty upset watching people come in and beat up my valuable retro pinball machines like that all the time.
Just wanted you to know separation is spelled with an “A.” SepAration, not sepEration. Spelling counts unless you don’t care if people think you sit around playing video games or pinball all day long.
death save always tilts the new machines, so that one is out
Forget the death save unless you are playing on a personal machine at home, the Tilt settings are to sensitive at the arcades.
Way tooo sensitive! I barely touch it and it tilts
On certain older data east games, you can death save even with a really sensitive tilt. anything from rocky and bulwinkle to tales from the crypt it's usually doable. anything before or after those good luck not getting a warning.

I can do that,too.
Rusty The Raver I’ve done that, albeit in Pinball Arcade...
That "death save" will cause a Tilt on even the most insensitive table. What real players do it is slap the opposite side to keep the ball out of the Outlane in the first place.
Spending time on these moves will pay off better than learning slowly, love the dead pass and bounce pass.
so thats how you save the ball when it goes in the gutter, nice, gonna go try it now

Awesome video. Very helpful. Thanks for the effort that went into making this.
Lol that death save is way too aggressive
That post pass is going to do wonders once I get it to work
Incredible tutorial. Thank you
Typically there are bars installed beneath the flippers to make death saves much more difficult. There were some good tricks though.
I was thinking the same thing. They also on some of the modern machines have a sway sensor in the machine. When you do that hard move it activates and deactivates the flippers so you cannot save the ball.

Love the death save tip but the bang back might be me banned from the machine. Great video!
Thanks for sharing the techniques; the video is awesome !!!

These moves are tougher in games like FX3 or Pinball Arcade
They still mostly work though which is what sold me on virtual pins
I can't believe pinball is so badass to me now
HOLY SMOKES THE *BANG BACK* and *NUDGING* is about to change the game for me!!!
I've never see the "Death Save" before, that is a cheeky little move! :D
It's bullshit. Nobody does that because it Tilts the machine.
@@theantipope4354 You've never seen Bryan Broyles play.

Still helpful 7 years later. Thanks. God bless.
Don't think my buddy will appreciate medoing the death save on his machine haha
great music bro
Some royalty free music downloaded from somewhere.
OMG the tap pass...
I don't think that's possible on most machines, where you have to already be holding down the flipper button to be able to get that little flick.
The easiest one of these is the Post Pass, but there are machines where you won’t have that option, like Paragon or Haunted House. 😕
On Paragon you can do tap passes.

Nice Pixel Bash.
I'm still kinda new to pinball...I literally started whooping when I saw the death save. that's going into my arsenal immediately.
Careful, the death save is often frowned upon in tournaments or by arcade owners. Not always, just use with caution.
Thanks for the tips. Was the Death Save on a very forgiving machine?
I wondered the same. Hard enough to get a table in an arcade here (AU) you can nudge and the levellers are screwed all the way out doesnt help. Such a shame Nice Video

I don't understand the difference between the dead bounce and the bounce pass 😣
I don't think there's a difference. I did a search on the two, and they seem to be synonymous.
What's the difference with death save and bang back?
What’s the purpose of the over under?
I’m actually surprised i did some on my own already 😎

yeah nudge into bumpers for bigger bounce away
Where are theese machines at so we can play them
It sucks that a lot of these moves are really difficult or downright impossible when playing pinball in a video game.
Vpins are definitely different. But still possible to do most of this depending on the physics of the table.
I can do exactly ZERO of these techniques
What happens if I death save at my local arcade lol
Will most machines give you a tilt error and take your ball away when you do those death saves?
Newer machines give you warnings for tilt before actually ending the ball.
It depends on how deep the plumb bob is set by the game operator.
Super!
Death save legal?
You will Tilt before you get anywhere close.
I've never understood what the nudging is doing. Also I never bothered to learn "Back Bang/Dead Saves" because they aren't really a legal thing to do so what's the point if the game isn't legitimate?
