My first XR was a '98 XR250R. Absolutely magnificent. The combination of performance, reliability and low maintenance cannot be beat. Sure, a new generation 250 will have more power, but less longevity and higher maintenance. The 4 valve XR250 is a big leap in power over the XR200. Very different bike. I now ride XR400R, and that is the bike for me. All the fantastic qualities of the 250R, but with more power. I will be getting a second one, and gathering spares wherever I find them.
@@TheManoy66 While Racing in the woods, it was discovered an uncorked CRF230 with good suspension was the fastest air-cooled motor Honda produced. Even faster than the XR400 in the woods.
you are absolutely right about ownership. They do require a lot of fixing if you got it cheap. So saying, they look great. I got a black and orange 1985 XL250R, doing the carbs and cabling at the moment.

SO I'LL PROBABLY HAVE IT FOREVER, EVEN IF I WOULD BUY SOMETHING ELSE BIGGER IN THE FUTURE BUT THAT'S COOL WITH ME BECAUSE I HAVE SO MUCH FUN RIDING IT ON THE STREET & IN THE DIRT. ALSO LOVED THE VIDEO BROTHER!!!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟
i bought last year my xr 250 l 1993 for 450 euros it was almost dead ... after a year and about 1000 euros later it is almost done... very expensive parts the valvs costs about 160 euros and the camshaft 340euros.. but i love it.. if it breaks again i will fix it again
I want one , but I grew up on 2 strokes , I had a KMX 200 and 4 Yamaha DT125Rs the DTR was my favourite I have had a YZ 250 but that was not fun it was lethal ,I have had other bikes as well it’s hard to find a DTR , I remember when enduro bikes were dirt cheap in the late 90s could get good ones for a few hundred pounds
I have honda xlr 200r it's been 24 years, my dad used to ride it now he own crf240l so I now own xlr200r I love it so much that I got another honda xlr200r. Honda xr and honda xlr this is a go to bike.
Im trying to get my hands on one of those, the 250 seems like a perfect bike, they are cheap at least where i live and my first bike was an 98 2 stroke suzuki so i think i can manage finding the pieces 😅
I have a 2001xr250r. Is there a set of supermoto wheels i can buy straight up and mount on or do i have to buy the rims and redo the spokes to the original hubs?
Not sure if Warp9 could make a set for your bike but i think that would be too expensive. I would recommend building your own set from a 2nd hand set of hubs. Just be mindful that the rear hub of those 2001 XR250s has 32 spokes and the front is 36.
Greay direct owesome video. I am an xr250l fan, we for one and soon i dound another. Beat up but is a joy to ride them. We fixed em up to new but it was worth it, what i hate about it it call to. Much attention, everyone either offers to buy it or ask 10 southan questiins. I did not know pupular they where.

@@john.s1962 the weight and height difference between the 250 and 400 models is very minimal. For the height, there are ways to work around that. A simple solutions is a lowering link that drops the seat height 2 to 3 inches. I am currently working on an xr400 and will be posting it soon. 😎

Congratulations on your new bike! Where i'm from, a spare engine would be nice to have. Probably a spare CDI also since those burn out pretty fast based on personal experience. And never use iridium spark plugs.

In terms of overall design i think the XL250R had the best ergos. Not too tall, not too high, slim profile and had the most agile handling.

Hi. Im looking at a 1998 Honda XR 250r...engine does not have RFVC badge on the head block... is it an original? Replaced engine? Replaced sticker?
If its a real 98 model then the engine doesn't have the RFVC embossed. From 96 onwards honda took away that marking on the cylinder head
