what you could have done at the start to make sure you fully utilize the skip drive is to remove the energy collector and install a second basic space reactor. i have seen others do it that way too
In the beginning you should crash skip drives, you want to be able to move around the system asap and get many resources or even find resarch locations. I hope you enjoy this game as much as i have!
Next episode I finally get there :) I still have not read the patch notes outside of seeing there were a bunch of bug fixes, but I remember on my first and second playthrough exploration & early growth was key to success, along with stealing as many techs as possible.

@@Setharus yeah and even if you want to be the nice guy, you may need to invade independents if you get unlucky with planets around you
