Mercedes EQE: Range & Value in the 2024 EV Crisis ⚡️📉

- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2025
- It’s official: The #ElectricCar market has crashed through the floor. Just look at the Porsche Taycan-originally selling for £110k, now being listed for as low as £45k in just a few short years. And that's retail price, with over 700 used Taycans on the market! The higher you go up in the model line-up, the worse it gets for your pocket.
So what happened? Buyers are getting smarter, realising that the future value of EVs just doesn’t hold. And it’s not just any EV taking a hit-the Taycan was the cream of the crop, with strong demand and solid residuals. But even that wasn’t enough to escape the decline.
Now, let's talk about #MercedesBenz EQ series. I’ve been pretty open about my dislike for this line-up; I've never been a fan of the way they're designed, both inside and out. It always felt like a total abandonment of their values in favour of a half-hearted attempt to mimic Tesla, but with a much higher price tag. However, the Mercedes EQE might yet be redeemable-despite my criticisms, it’s proven itself as a range champion during the 6000 miles and 3 months I’ve lived with it, and the prices and deals are now making it attractive.
In today’s video, I'll share my full experience living with the Mercedes EQE for 3 months, highlighting what I actually enjoyed and the things that left me less impressed. We’ll explore:
Summer vs. Winter Range:
How does the EQE perform across different seasons? I’ll go over what you can expect in terms of real-world mileage during both hot and cold months.
Charging & Long Journey Planning:
I’ll dive into how easy it is to plan longer journeys, the best charging strategies, and how to maximise the EQE’s range for road trips.
Interior & Practicality:
The EQE’s interior has its own quirks, so I’ll take you through its everyday usability, comfort, and practicality.
I'll also discuss the full EQE model line-up, including the EQE 53, giving you a rundown on pricing and options.
And here’s where things get interesting-used prices. Right now, you can pick up a used EQE in the UK for around £40k, which is a huge saving on the £70k price when new. And if you’re set on buying new, Mercedes-Benz UK is offering 0% finance deals and discounts to make it even more tempting.
Is now the right time to go electric with a Mercedes EQE? Does it make sense to buy used or new? Find out all the answers in this video as I share my take on living with one of the more polarising EVs out there.

been watching over a year or so and still blown away with the quality of edits you come out with.
18:25 understand the feeling, my wife a three kids love to travel on my EQE. We just did a Sweden to Italy summer trip and it was so smooth and comfortable.
I own the EQE 300 sedan, fantastic EV in all aspects, the whole important consumption, design and tech. Got it used with a great deal, full on with all bells and whistles. Highly recommend!
Great feedback! I had also the chance to drive an EQS 450 4 matic for 2000 km.
Amazing car:
Real Autobahn range >500 km
Charging speed constant and flat, no need for 800 v technology, high efficency even at speeds above > 160 km/h
My opinion to the EQ Models turned completely
The only disadavantage is the design..but if you sit inside this does not matter at all
@@visionmodernclassics I drive my EQE300 across France fairly regularly. Best thing about it is that you can still get 200-230 miles between 10-80% charging stops even when doing 90-100mph in the winter. A lot of other EVs due to wind resistance massively loose range once you go over 70mph.
I’ve had my amg eqe now for 3 months. Finally after a year wait. Car is absolutely phenomenal. Fast, sublime tech, luxury in abundance. Best car I’ve ever driven. Couple of drawbacks, cost £120k, MBUX whilst fantastic can be a bit laggy at times. 4 wheel steering great as well as the air suspension. It’s the only car I’ve owned that after 3 months i am still working out and find new things it can do. Night t8me driving is brilliant with the ambient lighting.
The problem with this car is the design. The Taycan and the e-tron GT are great examples of good looking EVs.
True. The whole EQ lineup is pure ugly. They will never sell well. And MB is complaining about the EV industry. Sad story is that people dont want EV from MB because they all look bad.
@@runeisaksen6781 There is light and sun with the EQ series, as a customer - inside design Hyperscreen, Voice control is really great. Outside ..well you need to be the designers mother to love it, also its a 400V platform which is subpar in luxury - at the end of the day I got a great deal which made it irresistible
Yeah but they depreciate like an asteroid falling to earth all the same...
@@runeisaksen6781 Interestingly in this morning's end of September SMMT figures Mercedes are the third best selling EV manufacturer this year in the UK so they aint doing that bad. I just wish they would make an AMG estate EV.
@@gonzochild I did not know that. Good for MB. But I still think they could sell more if they had cars that was more attractive to the crowd. As a old MB owner it feels wrong wanting a Porsche or a Audi more than my "beloved" MB.
Fully agree on the outrageous prices that the charging stations charge, they should be price capped, no wonder the uptake of EVs is slow!
I got a great deal on an EQE and driving it for some months and I love it. Top notch quality - not one problem or squeak, great range - with the hyper screen inside it's really awesome. The outside is a matter of taste, the pricing was not.
Consider yourself lucky. Build quality on the V295 EQE is an issue. Seats start squeaking, rattles on door cards, rattles in instrument panel, door cards coming loose etc.
@@SevCars yes I read some issues and problems with the this model, not mine.
@@SevCarsnah, I own an EQE sedan and quality is fantastic
What was the deal that you got?
Tbh. I would just get a E class instead.
Same here. Eqe just too ugly to be Mercedes
Lets be honest you can’t afford either 😂
@@fmsantoscar mercedes all my life bud
💯
Why? Do you like spreading cancer and dementia? Or do you need to travel to the arctic circle on one charge.
People with your attitude will never accept the facts, not sure why.
I love cars, I have owned some nice fast ones, I would never ever go back. Maybe I care for others more, maybe I have a conscience, even with money no object ai would still run EVs.
Show me and others one case where an ICE vehicle is overall better without mentioning the selfish convenience, so many quote they haven't got 30 mins every few days but then sit on the sofa for hours.
I got my EQS 2024, i loved it, and i bought my 2nd Mercedes-Benz EQE last month, and i love it.
I know Tesla's are amazing, but i wanted a german luxery EV and I admit that i am thankfull to Allah for enabling me owning 2 Mercedes-Benz EVs.
From my heart i wish you all to own Mercedes-Benz EVs they are in my opinion the most relaxing, luxury and very respected brand-equity❤
I love my EQE 500 4matic with rear wheel steering. I can't believe how much power this car has. Having a head up display is absolutely incredible as I always know what the speed limit is now. It's so nice having soft close doors, and I love the massage bucket seats. It's really nice driving a quiet car for a change. I love it so much that I told my son I would get him an AMG EQE.
Hello, what's the real world range in winter time with temperatures closed to 0°?
BMW made the best decision to just launch the IX as the only ground up EV and develop all the newer models as both ICE and EV on the same platform, where the market dictates they could just scale back without having to cut multiple models nor offer discounts. Whoever was in the boardroom and made that decision won.
Because the new 5 series is designed for multiple driving mechanisms(PHEV, ICE and EV), therefore i5 is oversize outside while interior isn't that big, worse is i5 still has a center pillar long the interior. It is inefficient compare to a pure EV platform.
IX is ugly and fro a ground up design has bad packaging. Meanwhile the BMW mixed use platforms are all crap compared to dedicated offerings from competitors. BMW is lost.
I so dislike modern Merc interiors, especially the EQ ones. With all that "ambient" lighting they look like cheap cocktail lounges or video game arcades.
Well said, welcome to a Pattaya gogo bar
couldn't agree with you more, I have a 2021 e53 coupe with dark ashwood, and no giant ugly screen in the middle and I love it. I can't see myself getting rid of that for anything 2024 and beyond.
The normal screen looks awesome imo.
You can order wood parts too.
The hyperscreen is too much for me.
Don't like the AL either but it can be switched off.
just turn it off 😂
By far the best interior Ive ever been in. Especially on the top of the car models.
That thumbnail is the only angle this car looks good, i'm glad you found it.
Most horrendous looking bar of soap ever conceived
I drove the exact same EQE 53 a few weeks ago and I wholeheartedly think the hypersceen is absolutely worth it over the base package. It is a thing of absolute beauty. The AMG model is a million times better looking.
The perfect combo would be the 350+ with hyperscreen in black with the silver AMG wheels #perfection. Oh and the amg performance package wasn’t on that AMG 53 so you didn’t get the cool sounds or ceramic brakes.
My EQE 500 4matic with the AMG package is the smartest decision I ever made. I love HUD and rear wheel steering. They are my favorite features.
Oh, and I can't forget voice activation. Hey Mercedes, I need a massage.
I have my EQE 300 almost a year and I love it. Best car I ever had.
Is this “EV crisis” a UK thing as I don’t see the same phenomenon in Scandinavia. EVs are selling like hot cakes.
I understand that Scandinavian gov are so much more supportive of EV adoption than most other countries, in terms of infrastructure and ownership costs. So people actually want an EV there, there’s a “crisis” now in other countries because EVs are so expensive and not very desirable to own, so the market crashes.
Penalty taxes on ICE makes the decesion instead of you
Ev’s no matter the manufacturer have plummeted in the last year. But the luxury mb/Porsche/audi have the largest drops. You save 30% on a 6month old on cost new.
Best ev sedan available
247 Miles Range For £114,000 What A Scam For The AMG Version,
Even £60k - £80k For Only 240/250 Miles Is A Joke & Not Worth It,
What About So Many EV Fires ? & No Manufacturer Cars Are Safe Almost All Manufacturers Have Suffered Some EV Fires In Their Range Of Cars.
EV fires? You sound like an EV hater. What about ICE fires?
This is extremely useful.
I was very much into the hyperscreen, but the way you show the glare, it makes a lot of sense to not go for that.
What a fantastic review, excellent points made on the hyper-screen dash problem.
This is the best thorough analysis of the EQE on the internet. Thanks
Rey nice and comprehensive review. The best EQE review yet.
Used EQE prices merge among 350, 500 and 43. So, a price differentiator is rather the availability of factory options. The most valuable one is the air-suspension because of the long axl distance (sometimes there is not enough clearing height to get over bumps or even go down on ramps).... Thanks for the video!!!
I love my eqe 300 . 😃
This car look like someone dropped his ice cream on the sidewalk.
19:34 Totally agree on that. I got a EQE 500 SUV (the salesman tried to sell me on the AMG) because it accelerates super fast, still has very good range and is just so comfortable and luxurious to drive. The relaxed driving is one of the reasons to get a BEV. I still not get the idea behind an AMG BEV.
AMG and M have to rethink their approach to electric cars.
great video - very informative and well put together
Owning EQE 350 4matic - absolutely fantastic car to drive, enjoy and look. Emphasis on comfort and great audio. Obviously looks is not to liking of many but it does not bother me at all.
Great review, thanks
90 pounds!!!? That's outrageous. Great video though, thanks for this interesting information.
"EV Crisis"? What crisis? More EVs are sold every year than the year before, and that trend will continue into 2024. Of course the pace is slowing down... this is the normal progression of any product's life cycle as it matures and moves from early adopters to more mainstream buyers and at lower prices. Anyone who keeps talking about how EVs are failing are either anti-EV haters with an agenda or RUclipsrs posting clickbait for views from doom-scrollers. If you're someone who despises EVs so much and can't handle videos about them without going into a rage, do your mental health a favor and... stop clicking on them. It's be okay, bro. The world will be okay without your opinion.
The producers stop producing EVs in Europe. The warehouses are full of EV cars nobody wants them. What to say more?
I would rather just have an E-class.
Too bad it’s like $80,000 with a damn 4 cylinder
Just picked mine up and leasing for $560 a month 🥳 benz is desperate to let these units go
Only one question remains. How much this car will be worth in few years time when EV technology will be dead or ten times better. I guess you will have to pay extra to someone to take this car away from you.
That’s why you either lease one now or buy it for cheap later.
That applies to ICE cars as well….technology never stops 😂
@@fmsantoscar ICE cars are never going to catch on. Give me a solid horse and buggy and leave this ICE fad to the foolish buyers.
@@fmsantoscar my few ICE cars are worth more then i payed for few years ago. You never get that with disposable junk EV.
@@CIRCLEDARK correct answer is stay away from any disposable junk EV.
Great video good effects great production value 👍
Wouldn't it make more sense to have a digital display at the charging socket, so one can see the status of the battery in realtime at any point for all EV cars?.. just curious
i gotta say the Hyperscreen is the best looking interior
Winter range estimate????
Fantastic work man, keep it up please
Home charging is way cheaper than suggested in the video.
Absolutely £8 for 315 miles ain’t bad. That’s off peak EV charging tariff in uk. Charge between 12-5am.
High insurance and repair costs made me stay clear of EV's. That thing costs how much to insure?😳
The EQE53 you sat in was not the top spec…
The top spec car is easily identifiable, it has gold callipers over carbon ceramic discs. It’s also significantly faster and has the sound experience, which makes a big difference.
Everytime I watch one of these EV videos and the overly complicated gubbins and pre journey planning, I fall in love more and more with my newly acquired petrol £11,500 2014 C180 Coupe.
I haven't driven this car, but I'm skeptical that adjusting the recuperation realtime as you're approaching a stop is a wise way of driving. Recuperation function from accelerator lift is not really well modulated. It's more like a timing function. So you learn to anticipate given your speed, how early you need to lift, knowing how much recuperation you're using when you'll stop without switching to instead use the brake. That's one pedal driving, and if you're not one pedal driving at all, then you'll be using your brakes anyway and the "engine braking" effect of mild recuperation is just weird. So I'd argue that using a single setting for recuperation allows you to learn and master how much you get when you lift. Dynamically adjusting it is not like downshifting, or if it is the way you're using it, it's still not as predictable as just one pedal driving with max recuperation. I've heard many people argue they need a coast mode to maximize range on the highway, and that's only true for very long inclines that are dramatically steep and where you're ok building speed (not worried about speeding tickets/cameras). Even in one pedal driving situation, you learn to use the dead zone in the pedal position where you are neutral gliding. The display should show you that it's happening. So again, choosing your favorite recuperation and then having a predictable pedal not an unpredictable one that's changing how it reacts to lift is the better choice, IMO.
9:19 the IWC ❤
The thing that worries me, because the battery pack is expensive to remove, as you will need to as you get age and usage breakdown of the cells, once you've paid the £5K to take it off, replaced the dud module(s) with pre-owned ones, then re-instate the pack, then when it happens again after 18, you do it again?
If we look at cars with massive initial costs, and very expensive parts that fail, this is what causes "zero'isation" in terms of value. So if you buy a 3 year old Taycan at £50K, you're looking at depreciation of £4.2 to £8.3K per year, assuming either 15 or 9 years of total vehicle life. There will be a point that these vehicles will not be worth fixing. There won't be a magic cure. Plus your weight figures (and I assume for the Merc as well) are wrong. Porsche itself told me, after I asked when buying, after MUCH resistance, that it's 2.7 to 2.9t. And the salesman said, that "on the road", over 3t.
I agree, i have a basic screen eqs and its definetly better than hyper screen
Just make Hybrids. Most of electric cars were sold under schemes. Make the scheme include hybrids and you'll EASILY change the motor pool in the UK. Most hybrids can easily do commutes in electric only and they can not only recharge themselves but also do the long hauls that you'd want to do when needed.
The brakes of eqe n eqs is strange
Why buy this instead of the hybrid 🤷♂️?
it's not a base model?
Audio desyncs at around 10 mins fyi.
Make sure you lease your EV
i think the early Porsche Taycan were not favoured as poor range ,
its a great time if you pay cash and buy , i purchased 3 months ago

Mercedes evs are catching fire at moment so yes there might be some cheap buyes ..........
16:17 I guess you were NOT comparing apples to oranges
What’s the range in the British winter then? Not 400 miles that’s for sure…..🤔
I will seize the chance and get myself a performance luxury sports EV such as taycan soon, thanks to this crisis

The EQE is one fugly car!
If it was not egg shaped and lost 20% range, people would be complaining about that instead. You just can’t please everyone.
Its so FUGLY
@@CIRCLEDARK You're right, good thing Taycan exists then, for those who want good looks and less range.
this or a taycan, can't decide T_T
Hey, raz, I've been following for a while. And it's been great content. In touch with this electrical car carry-on, if I was in a position to buy a brand new car, it would be a hybrid no question, although these cars are getting a little better. I do believe they are way over powered, too heavy and full of crap that's really not relevant to most folk... saving the planet I think not 😢... crazy world indeed...
Im going Restomod next time..can’t be doing with all the bullshit safety systems, limiters bings & bongs etc..
BORE OFF 😂😂😂
Sure, I hear about all the pros as a daily driver but for the love of god, it's just so ugly.
You can easily pop the hood. All it takes is 1 screw and your typical red mb hood lever is there..

Good as they are rubbish
No wonder these are not selling. BMW i5 40 is infinitely better.
no, it's range is crap.

Very ugly car. Do they really think they are sober?
Reminiscent of earlier TOYOTA PRIUS models - in terms of ugliness.
The Taycan is just the Ugliest expensive EV out there. PLAIN UGLY; EQE SERIES + UGLY. Why can't they just to a beautiful EV car. Makes a Model S with (no leg space for the people in the rear) look beautiful. The just got the Hood and Bonnet wrong. EYE sore. Wantuing an EV does not you don't care for how it looks like. 🤮
My problem with the EQE, and many other modern cars, is that they look like the hatchbacks of old, but are actually saloons. So, although I'd love a used EQE or Taycan when I replace my I-Pace, it's just not practical for me as I need to get my mountain bike in the back, do tip runs, etc.
