To be fair, there are hardly any major wind speeds in space. Also, it's constructed intricately so it can be deployed into space safely and subsequently unravelled, as well as deflect a star's light with its unusual design.
Meiner Meinung nach ist es egal ob der Starshade viereckig oder Sonnenblumen förmig ist, weil er ja eh Kilometer weit vom Teleskop entfernt ist. Da sollte doch die Form des Schildes keine Rolle spielen. Oder??
I don't understand why they can't make an either smaller more structurally sound one, &or perhaps an arm that extends lining up like the sight of a gun or just block the light in that fashion inside the optix? Two pieces extended so frailly over such a distance seems rather risky difficult. If it works, more power to ya, but for how long? I'm all for it/progression but you don't think we can get a more clever or trickier with this solution? Best of luck! I'd love to hear & see positive results!
I'm a fan of NASA, space, etc. etc. But this seems like a lot of time and effort for something not entirely worthwhile relative to other potential projects.
Took me 75% of the video to realise they were saying "petals" instead of "pedals"
sirandytaylor America english haha
Looks more like a sunflower then a star shape.
this video is 6 years old. i wonder how much they improved now.
I hope to live till the very day we find new life on another planet!
We kind of already have. Theres just no way to confirm it yet :P
Good old Boris Bongos
its been 4 years, and still nothing...are you still alive?
@@chefmarcg thankfully yes lol. Completely forgot I wrote this but still wish the same thing...
@@BorisJohnsonMayor glad to hear youre still with us!!!
My grandfather's name is David Webb. Eerie.
why are they making the process so difficult, when they can make an umbrella like structure which will be easy to carry and deploy...
lol it costs so much money, i'm sure it has a reason.
imagine the reason being that this folding looks fancier.
Why does this look like a shty kite made out of tin foil that wouldnt survive a second in space or a wind can just rip through like nothing ._.

what wind?
The great space hurricanes of course...
You should watch "The Martian"
@@ManchesterUnitedKing so why all the hub bub about artificial sun?
I want one
Why?
Very inspiring!
Mid 2020s? Whoa, they need to learn what efficiency means from Space X.
I would love for most of our taxes to go to nasa, rather than the military. My money goes to space rockets 8)
Parker B
But i like Nasa being pure and on its own. The air force will probably strangle missions like these :c

Mars here we come \o/
Isnt it dangerous, do they know the frequence
Wonder where this is now...

Engineering!
استغفرالله العظيم و اتوب اليه ♥️
2:07 When da space popo find ur NASA starshade amirite??? Oh god. what is this comment and that edgy music?
It doesn't increase the chances of life existing it increases the chance of us ever seeing them
