Something broke in the cold yesterday. The handle was really hard to pull and I suspect it’s the part in this video who have broken. I sprayed the lock mechanisms with both first penetrating spray wd40 and also silicon spray. But no change at all in the -20 temperatures. l suspect its the cable that gets. corroded like on gear or break cables on bicycles rather then the lock itself that causes the issue? Is that correct? Is it possible to rinse and lube enough of the cable to solve this issue if i remove the lock but not the cable? luckily the lock opened by itself just after something broke/snapped off. so i thought something was wrong inside the lock itself. But now I suspect it’s the part shown here that seemed to be the weak point in this German engineered solution 🙈
My cable and latch were fine, my pano roof was leaking and the water was coming from the bonnet catch handle, i don't know if this had anything to do with mine breaking
Turnes pur to be the arm behind the handle that broke off. Orders a new handle from china that turned out to have a shorter arm. Probably for another model VW. Luckily it worked fine anyway. After a few days with repeatedly WD40 sprays it worked fine again. Lesson learnt is to keep the lock open if it’s getting colder and let the rust remover work for a few days and try again when temperature rises.
I just had a similar problem with my 2011. Was pulling the hood lever and it seemed like something snapped. I pulled off the handle and all the teeth appear fine. The cable seems to be fine too. Now I’m afraid to close my hood. No idea what to do next and it’s -30C outside.
Made life alot easier for me. Thank you.
Thank you. This was entirely helpful.
Thank you for the video! It gave me a great reference!
Great video!
Did you check the cable and latch are working ok. You might break the new handle if they are seized up?
Sorry for the late reply, cable and latch work fine and i greased them up but thank you for your input, much appreciated.
when reinstalling the new bracket does the cable just snap into the new bracket?
