I haven't eaten meat in 50 years. At 75 I can keep up with most of you and I'm in excellent health. I take no meds. Don't knock what you don't know. Read the statistics about the energy of vegetarians.
The great thing about your videos is that you're out there every day, living your own way. Too many van life videos are made by spoiled rich brats just trying to be trendy. Your work seems authentic and practical, and done with a genuine desire to be out in the wild, living independently.
Michael Jowell exactly! $60k+ in a build and talking about roughing it 😂 They sit inside and play video games and eat junk 24/7 This is why I love FF he’s doing nature & a bit of everything and loving it. Balanced ✅
I watch a few people who are Mt Bikers and none of them are like that. I think its a pretty hard way to live full time. I lived out of my car and tent for a few months back in the day and it was fine, then again I was not doing it year round.
Absolutely! This is a great channel with quality, and genuine content. Not like some other videos "How much is our monthly budget in a van? Oh, $3000...." pfft. Such nonsense! Go back to the city you spoiled babies. lol This is how it's done! Well done man!

Few things: 1. After cooking, I’m wondering how much the smell lingers and whether the vent makes a difference. I imagine the smell particles stick to the interior and stick around for a while. 2. Consider making an Amazon wishlist and sharing it with us. I’m more comfortable making one time purchases than monthly patreon payments. 3. What are you doing for income right now? Has channel viewership/Adsense revenue grown to a sustainable scale?
I don't notice lingering scents in here. I think someone else needs to check out my van and make the decision. I've tried setting up the Amazon thing but ran into some dead ends, still working it out. Yes for now I'm making enough on Adsense + Patreon to get by, it really helps I have a low cost lifestyle. I feel really fortunate my channel is getting views, RUclips is getting swamped with Van Life stuff. So I realize my channel could easily start to dwindle, if I have to go back to the factory, then i will. But I enjoy making the videos so I will continue on.
Out of all the van content I reckon yours is the best. You've got that chill persona and capture some of those really wonderful moments. It's good to see someone down to earth who isnt high energy on yt.
Forest, we love your videos. I'm a six year vegan, my wife 7 years. I used to be more pork ribs than man. The secret for me was finding recipes that mock the flavor and texture of meat. Many of these recipes can be found on you tube. There are many crock pot recipes. The health benefits are extraordinary. Even if you just cut back on your meat love. Keep up the great videos. Best regards, Carl
One of the most innovative and unique van life channels out there. What you’re doing is truly special man, your self reliance is inspirational. I hope you keep these videos coming for a long time. Thanks for making them!
I love your videos. They are informative and I love your sense of humor. I had to smile when you said changing your diet might help your endurance. I can't think of anyone with more endurance than you...especially after watching you climb Mt. Rundle Summit! Don't get rid of the slow cooker. It's served you well!! Stay safe and warm!
Highly recommended to get a high quality pair of sun glasses. If you're out and about in the wilderness as much as Foresty here, high quality spectacles are basically a must.
A sunglass strap or croakie would reduce the chance of you dropping or losing those glasses during your biking/hiking adventures. There are many different kinds.
One question. You have an interesting demeanor and you're well educated, maybe a bit of background? I really enjoy your 'Walden-style' and can see why people admire your work so much. Best wishes from climate-burnt Australia.
Part of what drew me to your channel was definitely your unique choice of vehicle, and your build. Your minivan feels like a real home since you built real walls in there! If you do ever upgrade to another vehicle, I hope you pick something that will be a similarly creative challenge, because your skills really shine.
I've been following you for about 6 months now and I follow a plant based diet. It's great to see you trying out different foods. Food taste better to me since I cut meat out of my diet but it takes time. Thanks for another great video.
what i like about your van is that youve done so much with a normal minivan, and its reassuring to see that even if i can only afford a minivan when i finally get on my way, it can be something special in the end
Hey I am about 98% vegan. I eat lots of nuts, beans, rice, pasta, etc. I rarely get sick anymore. I make a smoothie every day. Just a $5 thrift store blender. Add everything from frozen veggies to celery, cucumber, wheat grass powder, wheat germ, fruits, etc. I rode 53 miles the other day and recovered the next day but I had a bunch of tuna. I eat salmon and eggs also. No dairy except some yogurt and chocolate. A little cheese. Coconut oil instead of butter. So anyway, that's my 2 cents. I do it for health and because I don't want to kill unless I have to. Thank you for your cool channel. My favorite.
You converted me, I bought a slow cooker and I'm addicted! I saw a recipe for corned beef (not sure if that's just an Australian thing) and a jar of honey mustard sauce, that was it, so I tried it out and was awesome. So I'm a slow cooker convert now, thanks buddy lol.
FF, glad to see you back here! I've been discovering more and more of your older biking vids, and they are also great and full of breathtaking video. So glad you are NOT back working in a factory when you have these greater gifts to give the world. Your skills in biking and videography--and yes even cooking and van building--are exceptional. Even more important, I think they make you happy. For us, we are all connected to the Nature and adventure that are such a part of your journey. Most of us will never come close to having those kinds of experiences in our lives. It is a blessing you have shared this with us...and the channel finally caught on! Forest, none of us will be upset if you add your Patreon link to those older videos--and also to this one! Or let YT run a commercial or so within your programming. Set up Amazon affiliate links to the gear (hiking or biking or video or cooking) you appreciate. Do whatever you need to do to make this continue to work, because you are a natural at these things. Stay safe out there, my friend.
Next video: "So I modified my van-build to make the sleeping quarters wide enough for me AND my new love the slow cooker..." 🚐😂😁 Seriously though, thank you @ForestyForest for covering the tech you use to shoot your videos!
You know that that there is a 12-step slow cooker program, right? Step #1 is admitting that you secretly desire the cooker and want to "hold-on" to it. I don't know steps 2-12...personally, I never got that far.
Goodness!! You have THE BEST smile! The wit, intellectuality, strength, and many more attributes you possess is extremely attractive and admirable. Never stop being just who you are🌱🖤
The slow cooker is perfect for when you do activities. It allows you to come back home to a good meal. You should keep it. You will miss it when you still have to cook after exhausting yourself on a hike.
Great Video as always! Thanks for including us in your journey. If you are ever in the same area as Steve Wallis you guys should do a collaboration. You both have a very unique camping style AND a love of cooking.
I was only eating chicken and fish because a Dr. told me red meat even pork wasn't good. I ate and still do lots of veggies I couldn't lose any weight and kept gaining. I changed Dr. and I asked her about this new meat Keto thing. She didn't suggest it but asked how much red meat I eat, when I told her none she was shocked and said red meat and fat have gotten a bad rap for years. I started eat bacon and red meat and have lost 23 pds. I know you don't need to lose weight at all but as active as you are do not give up meat you can do less but don't give it up. Stay healthy and safe. Love your channel
WOW DUDE seriously Ive been watching for over 5 years since you were fat biking deserts. Now, I love where your life has come, but I even LOVE it more that you just recognized the importance of our human food consumption. Makes me so VERY happy for you. CHEERS man, looking forward to seeing your life continue to flourish even more!
I don’t usually comment on yt videos but I have to say this is by far the best van life videos I can find he is so cool and down to earth. Keep up the vids (:
You make really interesting videos. I especially like the outdoors hiking and your summit content. Considering you live in a mini van you make some amazing meals and i love that you have a slow cooker its such a versatile way of cooking and you can use it at any time of the year which is a bonus. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
What! Foresty goes veggie! You just don’t cease to amaze me with your next passion. Your living life still with respect to community “ can’t fly drones in park” and recycling shows regard and that’s just real. Your just a cool dude in my books. Love tuning in!
Hey pard..got a 2004 Sub from a retired doctor..going to outfit it like your rig...almost pulled the trigger on a nice uplander but the sub has 4wd...Cheers from Saskatchewan..keep up the great work.
THE most important is your happy and living you're best life your way. YOU enjoy camping in summer and mountain climbing plus you always a couple steps ahead if any circumstances comes up. Have a safe winter spring is almost around the corner.
I think it'd be cool if you could do a video that shows some of the "behind the scenes" that help you support your life in the van. How often do you have to get groceries? How often do you have to get water, where do you typically get it from? How often do you need to drop off trash, where do you typically do it? How often do you have to stop by a laundromat? How do you handle mail while traveling (receiving online purchases, etc)? Is your hotspot sufficient for your internet needs, or do you have to stop by libraries/coffee shops, etc? How much time do you spend each day locating suitable parking? (Any "where" questions don't need specific place names, just categories would be fine [e.g. gas station, library, etc]) How long does it take to plan out your hikes? Do you have any resources you'd recommend for planning one / navigating one? Your videos are really inspiring. I've camped out in my car a few times and am really impressed with how good of a job you've done with your setup.
I have the Alpine Quest app on my phone. I load the Open Street Maps "cycle/hike" map and just scan for potential routes. Once I find something, it helps to Google the mountain name. Chances are someone else had made a trip report. Thank you, I'll see if I can answer more of your questions later.
The biggest benefits of slow cooking is probably meat (since it allows it to become tender soak up the tastes). I have been vegan the majority of my life and do a lot of vegan dishes. But generally I end up with cutting a lot of vegetables all the time, while the cooking process is generally 15 minutes or so, unless I use the oven. :) An easy thing to do is tomato lentil soup (translated recipe can be found in the reply section www.ica.se/recept/linssoppa-med-tomat-541439/ ). eat it with bread, or add pasta. It's good hiking food. :) You can cook it outdoors easily. Keep in mind always mix vegetable protein (beans, lentals, chickpeas etc) with some kind of grain... bread, pasta, wheatberry etc. your digestion will allow it to become full proteins, same building blocks as in meat.
Your reasons for less meat were good, understandable for your needs. For overall health though, I've always believed when it's your time to go, it's your time. My grandmother fried everything in bacon grease, ate a lot of the Banquet meals, a lot of salt, sugar... you get the point. She lived into her 90's. My uncle, her son, was a vegan... always concerned about what he put into his body. He croaked at 50. Again, your explanation for why was the best I've heard... more a short term gains explanation and I get it. I love your videos, you're my favorite youtuber bar none. Add to that, I simply admire the young man you are... All the best!
@@forestyforest Neat that you can still keep up with (at least some of) the comments with your huge viewership :) Might sound odd but gotta say your videos are by far the best measure for me to get through hard times at the moment. They are so soothing. I am eternally grateful, you are a good person. Thank you! And best of luck with your new van :)
pal1216 agreed with ya! I woke up to Forests video. Ran to make coffee. Great way to start a Saturday morning. Coffee -Binge watch a few Foresty Forests with my doggos and make a plan for the day 👌
When I started eating plantbased 6 years ago I noticed I got more stamina. And I didn't catch a cold for six years. But now I'm sick with the manflu and watching your videos. Thanks for all your awesome videos!
The video quality is impressive for a smartphone. I think part of your popularity is due to the compact form factor of your car, it makes it very suitable for stealth camping
you could teach people alot about living in a van or a car . and you look like a amazing cook . love your videos . God bless you . and the way things are going these days with the economy . and the inflation . more and more people may start living in vans cars or RV s .
Thanks for the update! These videos are nice too even if you dont go on an adventure :) i really appreciate showing a meatless slowcooker option! Way to keep it inclusive! I myself am a big meat eater but its good to think about our health sometimes haha. Thanks for everything you do! 🙏🏽
Crockpot appears at 2:04, what a beaut! If it's a 1.5L; 1 onion, 5 carrots chopped, 200 grams Canadian lentils, 1 beef stock cube, Salt/pepper, (small off cuts of lamb meat optional) 4 hours on high. Cost effective (from my student years) cosy & thick soup to fill you up.
Nice video. Also, I really like how you focus on video content, and practicality. Shooting with your cell phone is just fine. It really annoys me how some channels have 20 different camera angles, and super slow motion of them cutting onions, or cooking something simple (which makes the video 15 minutes longer). It's so ridiculous when they try to turn a camping video into a movie production, and it ruins the authentic grassroots feeling like your videos have. Keep doing what your doing!
You’re definitely getting better at all of this, commentary and filming. I’m surprised you’ve not been offered little jobs helping with buildouts for others. Good job bro.
Good on you for diving into plant-based foods, I've been vegan for 2+ years and I wasn't too turned off by your abundant meat cooking. I don't have a slow cooker but im sure it cooks raw beans and lentils well, maybe try a plant-based chili or lentil stew.
Happy Trails x..Think About a Small log burner if upgradeing van...their cheap and is a dry heat so no mould issues..Common practice over here in UK\Europe x..
Haha!!!!😂 One last time with the slow cooker!!!😁😀 Glad to see all is well with your van and great to see and hear about all your gear! I have been a vegetarian for 20+ years. There's a lot of vegetarian options out there. My husband is not and he still likes Morning Star products....a lot!!! Stay safe and warm!!!!!
Hey Foresty. You don't need a different battery, you need another battery. Hook them in parallel if the manufacturer says you can and enjoy the double capacity. Love your videos. From a fellow canuck.
So glad every time to see your post. Doing the stuff that you do and living in such harsh conditions, you need to have meat in your diet to keep that inner furnace burning. That stew would have tasted fantastic with a couple of chunks of beef chucks. Hope you will not have to go back to your old job. Your subs will keep growing and may you be able to afford a 4x4 soon to take us all on even better adventures. And get trail runners for multi day hikes when not in snow country. They are comfortable, dry fast and no blisters. I enjoy doing everything that you are doing, but never at a fraction of your caliber. Stay safe and keep doing what you’re doing, Forest!
You wil notice your energy level, strength and endurance will drop without meat, fish or egg protein. Its ok to cut out animal protein on days you are not as active, but take it from me, beans, nuts, and seeds dont get you far in the bush
Im a 2+ years vegan and I am a endurance cyclist/runner and I have not needed any animal product before, during or after training. "Take it from me" I live that life and it has only benefited my health and physical activity .
@@aceisking vegan here as well for more than 6 years and hike a lot, i have gone to Whitney 4 times and never noticed a slow down and @scarecrow7 is telling the truth.
You have a real genius about van conversion. The electronic management and set up wisdom you have is valuable. And could be offered as a consultant level service. And the snow shoe and foot wear...look up the local First Nation arts and craft centers in the communities you visit. Their snow shoes and mu-clucks are the best. They have hundreds of years of time tested wisdom in their design. When I was a kid, I did so, those and my Kodiak felt lined boots were the best... even when the temps dipped down below -40 Celsius.
Seriously, Foresty, you would regret getting rid of your crock pot because it is so versatile. You could also make bread in it. Also a bit of beef cut into chunks with carrots, onions, potatoes and a bay leaf. Delicioso.
Thanks for the video. With my Ford Econoline van, I wanted everything I had in my apartment, so I installed a combo composting toilet and sit-down shower. I can go up to 30 days without needing to resupply my food and water.
The minivan part definitely attract a lot of RUclips-views and adds charm to the content. But I think it's important that you live a life for your own sake, not only for RUclips, I think your quirkiness and charm will follow the channel even if you settle for those non-hightop work cars with 2m of cargo. It would be cool to see you apply your own practical and functional design to one of those. :) I bet you wouldn't redo it as a mini house (as everybody seems to do), rather stick to functional simplicity with practical solutions instead.
Pixel Shade I can see him in a Cybertruck with a Tesla branded limited edition “one last time with the...” slow cooker. Elon musk is crazy, he’s play along
@@Jon-jk8vd I used to be sluggish and tired, I admit it. But after going to Keto and intermittant fasting, I'm far less. Feels all natural to me - not even hungry outside of my one meal a day.
Your van build is one of the most stealthy ones, nobody can tell that someone lives in there. Which is really good for those who prioritize stealth van living. 👌
definitely don't go with a ford transit, you're right about how your build is better since it's different. The coolest part about your van build is how it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb like all the rest of the "stealth" vans, you could definitely use a larger vehicle, but you should stay away from full size vans and stick to minivans and SUVs. Also, driving your van in places a little more exciting than the walmart parking lot helps you a lot too lol. love your videos man, keep it up

Yo Foresty keep on keeping on! Your videos are a great escape from the bleak winters of the Midwest. Cheers!
(Any "where" questions don't need specific place names, just categories would be fine [e.g. gas station, library, etc])
How long does it take to plan out your hikes?
I really like Your videos. You are so nice guy :D Greetings from Poland!
Love your videos! Happy to see you're doing well. Shoutout to all us OG's who've been here since Van: Season 1 (lol).
"on my next van build..." ooh yeah
Probably like 10+ years from now, i've dialed this thing so deeply around my needs.. I could never sell it.
@@forestyforest looks like the garage space could be reworked into a separate toilet/shower room if bike is hanged on the outside :)
@@forestyforest Well this comment didn't age well, did it? :D Clearly you typoed years, must've meant months haha
@@aaleeksii lol, who would of thought
@@forestyforest Neat that you can still keep up with (at least some of) the comments with your huge viewership :) Might sound odd but gotta say your videos are by far the best measure for me to get through hard times at the moment. They are so soothing. I am eternally grateful, you are a good person. Thank you! And best of luck with your new van :)
I didn’t love Game Changers but I have been vegan for 20 years. Adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet is never a bad decision. Keep it up!
Foresty video...What a great way to kick off the weekend!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
pal1216 agreed with ya!
Can we make this a running joke that he’ll never take the slow cooker back ?😂
djyak999 He’s already joking about that since day 1. Hahaha. My man, FF is wicked funny!
If it goes back... We riot.
@Micheal Rows A Crock Pot is a trade name for a slow cooker :-) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slow_cooker
Micheal Rows If Forest says slow cooker, we say slow cooker. 😉
@Micheal Rows Both of which are Slow cookers. Crock pot is more specific term. While Slow cooker just generalizes them.
Nice work staying open minded about a plant based diet! It definitely helps my recovery!
I enjoy your “one last time” on the slow cooker😂. You’ve got me thinking about getting one. Great video , always enjoy them.
If it's a 1.5L;
1 onion,
5 carrots chopped,
200 grams Canadian lentils,
1 beef stock cube,
Salt/pepper,
(small off cuts of lamb meat optional)
4 hours on high.
Cost effective (from my student years) cosy & thick soup to fill you up.
David TexMex I agree with this. Lentil soup is delicious and filling. Have some bread with it and you’ll be full till morning.
The second I saw the crock pot flash in the thumbnail I had to click XD. One last time baby!!
Im amazed that you shoot everything on a smartphone. It really shows how far the technology has come! Thanks for another video dude

Thank you for doing these videos, a lot of time saved for others.
Yay. Honestly between you and another channel. You guys are my fav
You’re definitely getting better at all of this, commentary and filming. I’m surprised you’ve not been offered little jobs helping with buildouts for others. Good job bro.
I have got a delicious vegetable soup recipe, it starts with a 2 lbs. ribeye.
Cows eat grass, ergo beef is made of grass.
CHECKMATE VEGETARIANS
I'll be over for dinner.
Please share the recipe
Another greyt video! The slow cooker is a keeper! Wishing you a happy day and fun adventures!
Good on you for diving into plant-based foods, I've been vegan for 2+ years and I wasn't too turned off by your abundant meat cooking. I don't have a slow cooker but im sure it cooks raw beans and lentils well, maybe try a plant-based chili or lentil stew.
Absolutely love every single video you put out
That's a lot of painful shoes you don't recommend lol. I wear barefoot shoes myself, but they might crumble in your terrain :)
Happy Trails x..Think About a Small log burner if upgradeing van...their cheap and is a dry heat so no mould issues..Common practice over here in UK\Europe x..
ever thought about traveling the states??
i know some great trails off the Blue Ridge Parkway
Great vid as always !!!!
If your really thinking about a new van build then I’m getting really excited I know if you make a new one it will look amazing
I hope you dont get rid of your slow cooker. I feel like its part of your life now. I am even using one now. Love your food . Great video. Thank you.
"I'm gonna use the slow cooker _one last time_ ." Lol
Hey Foresty. You don't need a different battery, you need another battery. Hook them in parallel if the manufacturer says you can and enjoy the double capacity.
Love your videos.
From a fellow canuck.
If he ever gets rid of that slow cooker I’m gonna find it and use it 😂
As soon as he says he took it back to the thrift store I am going there to pay homage to the cooker. Not going to buy it, already have one.
I have one of those lightweight puffer jackets and I love it. But it's incredibly fragile so be careful.
It's been fun watching your slow cooker adventures :) ... Thanks 💜☮✝️

Suburbans are very thirsty...
My vote for meals is "just mix it up"....and I think you already do.
Seriously, Foresty, you would regret getting rid of your crock pot because it is so versatile. You could also make bread in it. Also a bit of beef cut into chunks with carrots, onions, potatoes and a bay leaf. Delicioso.
Good on you for educating yourself and taken action with your health. The science is hard to ignore.
WOW I never would have guessed that you film all of your videos with your phone! The footage you capture with it is amazing!
YES! One last time with the slow cooker! 😂
You are incredible, you are admiring strength and going forward 💪💪💪
For 350,000 years homo sapien sapien hunter gatherers ate a meat and fish based diet. Our bodies have evolved to run on meat and fish.
That's why I went Keto. I believe that's always been our body's natural way to run.
@@kwakester and that is why you will never admit you are sluggish and tired.
Try Altra shoes - super comfortable!
definitely don't go with a ford transit, you're right about how your build is better since it's different.
