I had no idea that Topper was also released for the 800. I always thought it was a Ti-99 exclusive. I played (play) the hell out of this game. Looks and sounds identical on both systems. Speaking of the TI-99, another Q-bert clone was Q-Maze, also released as "Jumpy" which looks similar to Crazy-ER Bert on the Speccy, but with much more complex platform layouts which change with every level. Great series btw.
Although I like Q*Bert and it inspired me to make a future video game, the main character is pretty much the only thing that would loosely resemble Q*Bert. I have a name picked out, a prototype name of Q*Bert, which Warren Davis himself approved. Gameplay would be fairly different, some enemies would be clearly inspired, but not directly copied.
