All y’all Minecrafters, know this: If you just build a chicken machine in your base or somewhere that gets rendered a lot (preferably underground in that place so you don’t have to deal with the noise), then you never have to worry about food again.
The primary reasons to build a melon farm are for emerald and bone meal production. They grow very quickly, not requiring a crop to go through all the stages of growth to reproduce. Which means just a few modules on top will produce a lot of melons for bone meal and for trading for emeralds. The farm is also much easier to build than an automatic wheat, potato, or carrot farm, requiring no villagers to work. So when you build the farm for it's true upside, you suddenly find all these melons lying around that you may as well eat.
That's still flawed logic because you can trade those melons for emeralds and then use those emeralds to buy golden carrots (the objectively best food because it's easy to obtain while providing high saturation and pretty decent hunger)

But now, I’ve taken it to myself to travel thousands of blocks overseas to get a single carrot so I can recover 1.5 saturation instead of 1. Truly life changing, especially since I cannot find my base now.

Chorus fruit is a surprisingly good food. Not only can it teleport you to safety if you eat it while falling, but it also is the only food that you can eat while at max hunger, meaning you can use it to entirely fill up your saturation.
