Great idea and machine. We had same type with membrane in remote village/mines to filter saltwater from bores. Few issues which may show in 6 m to year. The reverse osmosis membrane takes all the minerals and reduces oxygen out of water. If the RO water comes in contact with metals or organic (you) it absorbs the minerals and in metals cases (HWS, taps) it damages them ie, copper, tin, zinc, stainless etc. The solution to it is you can get a sacrificial anode manifold which processed water passes through picking up minerals returning to normal. All we had to do is monitor or the anodes and replace them. Anodes are copper, zinc, tin, stainless manifold. Be very careful as prolong use of drinking RO water can damage liver and kidneys if you don’t have manifold installed.
That's interesting info. We're yet to rely 100% on de-sal water and most liekly never will. It's more to supplement our other water, so hopefully we won't encounter the issues you've pointed out.
I mentioned that a desal unit in a van would be a great idea to a mate of mine about 3 years ago. My mate tried telling me it could not work. I don't really have a need for it in our current setup and the way we travel, so I was glad to see someone successfully try it. My mate is now thinking about it when he gets a new van built. Happy and safe travels.
I reckon that getting fresh water from salt water has got to be worth the trouble in the long run. Clean water is essential and now you can get anywhere on the coast of Australia! The Israelis are experts in osmosis and thankfully air defence systems.
Great to see you run your water maker, was interesting to learn your experience with using the pressure washer, I have been looking at rainmaker reverse osmosis system, now I am wondering if we could use the rainmaker pressure pump as a pressure washer? Thanks for sharing another great episode with more places to add to our bucket list
I have been talking about this for years!!!. Why not many people use them is nuts. I have a RAINMAN system - sure all up over 10K, but SO WORTH IT!. Can stay anywhere for as long as I want. Only issue is food!.
Kudos to you guys, it's appreciated that you realise that ya kids turned ferrel and you departed out of respect for others around. Only wish others could follow your example. Enjoy the informative info that you guys put out. Refreshing. Keep up the great work.
Guys just viewing you latest vid with the saltwater desalination system ( great idea & effort achieving that) with the minor water leaks are these from the hose connectors? If they are you may like to google the Hoselink product. Since installing these on our water hoses & caravan we have zero leaks. Pretty much guaranteed not to bust from hoses because of the install process. Great vids.
It’s better to not send reject back to the feed. You might do this if you have limited feed water supply. You will quickly scale and/or foul your membrane since you are never getting rid of what the membrane is rejecting.
Hi guys, we’ve been following your travels for a couple of years. Technical question from the other half. How many amp hours did you use to make the 50 litres of water? And what do you do with the brine at the end? Cheers
Hey! The brine went back into the ocean, but this will depend where we are when using it. Theoretically the unit can product 80L/hr but we've been getting more like 60L/hr
Oh please, if you have sun, make a solar still. The US Navy created an inflatable solar still to put in Lifeboats, and it works. Would not be too hard to make one from clear plastic and a few other bits and pieces. Or just make a good old fashioned still to put over a fire :) What you put into it, is up to you :) Wink Wink :)
People were taught to make solar stills in the military way back in the 1960’s as part of survival skills training. It came nowhere close to making over a litre per minute like I think Simon was aiming at. It makes no noise so I suppose just letting it run all day might make a few litres but I wouldn’t be patient enough to spend a whole day to produce maybe 5-10L. Maybe there are better devices around now?
@@TheLifestylePioneers Well you would build more then one. Specially if you where staying put for a few days. I will do some research and get back to you.
It's a kit I bought from Water Makers Australia. Maximum output is 80L/hr but the most we've gotten is about 60L/hr. They've given us a discount code as well "TLP10" if you're interested. www.watermakers.com.au/buy-now
Anything that lives in the sea does its business in the sea ! Just saying 😉😉. Hahaha sorry . When everyone else is running to go refill their water at water points or towns you’ll be all set up and pumping out pure H2O before they get out of the campsite 😳😳😳. Bloody great idea , how much is potable water in the remote areas of WA pristine coastline $ not to mention the fuel and time to go get it
Good to point out but your sewage water with your waste goes back in ground and bores bring it back up to your house. Your recycling too. Just saying. We don’t because we’re on rain water totally but we do put waste back in ground for you.

Congratulations on you desalination system 🤘
Thank you!

It's got potential! Keep following along as we test it more over the coming weeks.

Thanks, Pam. We're hoping so.

Glad it was helpful! I'm not familiar with the rainmaker one but it could be?

Right?! I like the look of the Rainman but they're almost 3x what this system cost.

Thanks, mate. That's great to hear!
Great to see the desal come to life !!
Finally!
Brilliant episode, so many ideas. Thanks for your honesty & sharing your experiences. 🥰
Thanks so mcuh!

Thanks, Rob. It turns out it was more from threads than the connection itself. Good to know you rate the Hoselink gear though.
Well done with the desalintor. 👍and hopefully it is a game changer.
Cheers! We'll see!

Good to know, cheers.
Great vid guys.
Bremer Bay looks the goods.
Plan to be there ourselves later in the year.
Desal set up is a ripper.
Cheers, Mark. Enjoy!
That’s so bloody awesome guys! I remember you talking about it at the Brisbane show last year! 🤙🏽
Thanks, it's been a long time coming 😂
No matter where we are - Can't control the weather.
Great to 'SEA' the desal working.
Thanks, Pete! Yes, very well done 😂
Always like your content. We are travelling and met an amazing Doctor in exmonth. She asked if we watch youtube lifestyle pioneers
And we do.!
That is awesome! Glad you got a good doctor 😉
I'm keen to know the desalination power consumption. E.g How many amp hours to make 100 litres. Thanks.
Us too! We're testing it more and will have more videos on it in the coming weeks!
Thanks very much for the video I recently asked for. 👏🤗
😂👌 You're welcome!

Hey guys great videos your doing 👍can I ask what roof rack your using and what size Ive been looking for one for my 76 cheers
No problem 👍 It's the Pioneer6 from RhinoRack. It's the biggest one they do for the 76 (can't remember the size, sorry)
Awesome work on that De Sal kit 👍🏻Also ….Tan needs to have a word to the editor 😂🤣 Re Petes Drone skills 😅
Haha, thanks guys!
What does that shelter beer taste like
We really like it. Very easy drinking 👍

What sort of output would you get from a solar still? I can't see it being productive enough to be sustainable.

Whats the setup you have with the screen for the kids?
Hey! It's a roof console from Legendex and an iPad holder from Breakfree RV Australia with one of their USB-C chargers
what brand and size is the fresh water maker?

@@TheLifestylePioneers Thanks alot looking at one for dads boat
Wind. Was thinking today where should I live where there is no wind. Bloody Geraldton wind just dosnt let up.
Not Albany! 😂
@@TheLifestylePioneers I was down that way for 3 months yep
Funny.. RUclips families never show their kids being feral, one would almost believe they are impeccably behaved 24/7! ... lolz.
Almost 😉😂
Noice Vid.. One day...
I hope
May be you did but if not
Why not do a " live" draw for n e comps/ prize draw?
Just sayin
I guess we could. It depends on the competition requirements, it's not always possible.
