Every vid of this SAS project is definitely interesting and motivating. I know NUTHING about welding or fabricating but you make it look easy. I am definitely taking notes and if I'm not understanding to rewind. I know this is not the 'Holy Grail" but so far the way you present the content and explain it makes it sorta easy. I'm glued to ya Mondays & Thursdays and I also appreciate when you take the time to answer any or all of your viewers questions here up to including mine! Thanks for the inspiration! Still staying tuned. 🤘😎 - Rey
Thanks for coming along for the ride! I don't really know much about welding or fabrication, so definitely keep doing more research! But I'm glad to at least demonstrate my experience. 👍😁
glad I came across your channel, I've watched almost everything. I like how you show what the FJ is capable of and your not scared to do things yourself
I'm excited to have all that new weight down low, and wide. The power to weight ratio will be better than old 22re Toyotas with the same setup. It'll be all about the gears.
@@offroadhub.official Being you trailer your FJ and use it for trail use, on the road performance is not much of a concern. So low gearing is the logical way to go and I have no doubt your 4.0 has all the HP and torque you will need. Assuming you will probably run 5.29 or 6.13 gears with the Atlas 3.8 4spd t-case on 42's will turn your FJ into one mean offroad machine.
Way to go Ken. Here I thought welding for the first time a Resz DIY bumper was daring..lol I was kinda nervous, but once I got going, it wasn't that bad. Good job on your build so far and yes, I'm taking notes because i really wanna do this someday 👍
@@offroadhub.official don't worry, I'm writing down your mistakes to..lol as for the Resz DIY bumper, I was kinda worried at first, I've never welded, but i figured it out.. me and my little harbor freight 140 mig 🤣 I just added extra layers of paint on my ugly welds. I had to make sure it didn't fall apart, so I dragged my fj40 around with my new bumper w/winch making sure it didn't fall apart. Held up great. My neighbors thought I lost my marbles, pulling my fj40 around..lol
So motivating can’t wait till this build is done! It’s going to be awesome. Planning on doing a SAS on my 4x2 FJ and going to definitely do all my work like you keep up te awesome content good sir 👍
Man I can only dream of this stuff in Australia. State laws mean everything needs to be engineered and fit within a tiny window of red tape. I did look up the RCV axles after you mentioned them in passing on the stream the other day, their price is seeming cheaper and cheaper to me by the day. Wondering what to do to the rear to complement a long travel on the front.
@@offroadhub.official We do have some good ones, off on a nice mountain peak trail ending in an abandoned gold mine later this month to break in the FJ. Should be muddy!
When I'm doing trail videos there is typically a few weeks between the time I record and when I upload. I'm currently running without a buffer, so you're seeing what I'm doing a couple days after it happens! 😉
did you think about priming or painting under the truss before welding it to the axle? They make a weld thru primer/paint called steel-it that works very well
So I installed RCV axles in my FJ because they clam to be as strong as a Dana 60. That's not possible. The Dana 60 is massive. Anyway, I bet you found welding to be fun at first. But it gets old fast. Right? Hurts my back most of the time.
I can see the joints themselves being as strong as the stock ujoints in a dana 60. But you can upgrade the ujoints in a dana 60 to 1550 joints or rockwell joints, which vastly surpass the strength of an rvc joint. I'm still enjoying welding, every weld is still a learning experience.
I don't understand what's driving you to upgrade the front axle so* much. Have you broken the front diff / CV's on your current setup? Those are really fucking heavy duty axles that you're going to install there.
I want to upgrade the front and rear axles so that I can access more advanced trails, and have less breakage. I have broken several tie rods and CV axles in what I do, and I don't want to upgrade, just a little bit, only to be left wishing I had upgraded "all the way."
This is becoming an awesome build.
Can’t wait for the next episode of Cruiser mania
Thanks for watching!

Before this I used to look forward to Fridays... Now, I cannot wait for Mondays and Thursdays! 🤪🍿🧈
That's so awesome, thank you! 😁👍🤪
That extra weight on the front axle ought to provide Great front end traction. Looking Good !!
And stability!
Heavy but strong and it will be interesting to hear your opinion on the power to weight ratio when the build is complete. ROCK ON!

I know you "Only Post Twice a Week" but I find myself looking all the other days just in case ; - )....Thanks Man Peace
Thanks for your enthusiasm! 😁
Doing great! Thanks for taking us along with you! 👍🏻
Another step closer to having it done.. excitment is getting higher .. thanks for the video.. looking forward to Mondays video.
One step at a time!
Ken, you will redefine Tonka Truck with this thing!
As always Ken, Great job on this build!!
Looking forward to off road video’s again!!!! Let’s see what this monster can do?
It's going to be cool. Can't wait to see it done.

Those weld yourself bumpers have always intrigued me. Good job doing it yourself! As for taking notes, remember I'm learning as I go! 😄

Do it! Give it a go!

Another great episode 🤘

Looking GREAT! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Great job. This is a fun ride.
Looking good
Looking Good.
Agreed, he is doing a fantastic job every step of the way.
wow this is going to be so beefed up lol it's going to be crazy good thing you trailer this everywhere lol
Yes, I don't think driving around the country on 42" Iroks would be a good idea!
Tons and done ✅
After the axle and tire upgrades you'll be wanting a Magnuson supercharger. haha
Haha I was thinking that too! When’s the Magnuson going in Ken?
All it takes is money 💰.
I can see the strongman completion wanting to visit to help you lift that axle 💪💪💪.
Do you plan to paint that protection plate red?
I have a shop crane that does the lifting of axles! I haven't decided on a color scheme yet.
@@offroadhub.official eww shop crane, good stuff for doing larger scale sculptures!
Color, follow your heart and your logo...you are a brand now!

I've been curious: how much time gap between shooting to posting videos are you? That goes for your trail videos and mods?
When I'm doing trail videos there is typically a few weeks between the time I record and when I upload. I'm currently running without a buffer, so you're seeing what I'm doing a couple days after it happens! 😉
I'll be in boise next week. If you need any help, I can offer to stare at it while you muscle that around.
That would be cool! But I'm way over on the other side of the state, about 4 hours from Boise.
did you think about priming or painting under the truss before welding it to the axle? They make a weld thru primer/paint called steel-it that works very well
I primed the underside of the truss before welding it up. Thanks for watching!

Curious why you removed all of the running gear from the FJ before you started building the axles?
Just to get it out of the way I guess.
So the pre-heat doesn't bother gaskets, seals or diff fluid?
It ruins all of those things. So the axles get rebuilt after the trusses go on. 👍
Ken. Which Hobart welder are you using to weld that?
Hobart 210mvp
You were going to need a V8 in that thing
Gears! The old 4.0 v6 has plenty of power!
@@offroadhub.official glad to hear. Because I think it has same engine as my 4runner.
It won't be top heavy thats for sure... you might need to go back and get the Power Stroke :-)
nice
Is that a 220v welder or 110?
It's a 220v. Hobart 210mvp.
What did you set your pinion angle to?
I haven't gotten to that yet. 😁
You already have it sir since you welded your truss on. You'll have some adjustment with links. Just curious
@@bsideadventures2180 well we'll see then. 😄
@@offroadhub.official You know what I saying right? Lol
@@bsideadventures2180 yes. With adjustment from the links I think I'll be fine.
Put that on a scale before installation 👍
The whole vehicle weighed 5100lbs before I started, I'll weigh it all when I'm done!
