Just catching up on season 3. It's great to see how the videos have grown in quality and content since the first season (even thought those were great in their own right). I am encouraged by your partnership with APS and really hope that your engaging approach to the hobby causes people who may have never considered stamp collecting to take a look. Thanks for all your efforts. I really enjoy the humor, information and production values displayed in each episode.
Excellent Vid! Have a 1956 Europa Souvenir Card. Ah, the games of youth: several versions of marbles were popular along with Mumblety-peg and, of course, Duncan Yo Yo’s. “Jacks” (although considered a “girl’s game) was great at developing eye-hand coordination-recall spinning the small Jacks to see how long they would last… Pump-tops were an early-age toy (4-5). “Pickup Sticks” was fun as well. But the main “game” was Baseball-starting at age five! Chess at age six and a variety of card games were equally enjoyed!
I just found your channel this week and love it! I collected stamps as a kid and inherited a large collection. You have really brought me back to loving stamps. Keep it up!
Shoutout from Vietnam I began collecting stamps one year ago Maybe i will start europa stamps in near future Your channel is the best philately channel i found so far :)
Great info about Europa and the stamps. Tossed a lot of tops in my kid days. But was a lot easier when I was just a hair taller than 4 feet. Less downward angle. When you got that first one spinning I was waiting for the camera to turn to a 12 year old kid with a sly smile on his face as he 'learnt ya'. LOL. Always great stuff!!
I have a few Europa stamps. When I was young, was very good with spinning tops and the battles were fierce. We even sharp the tip in order to do more damage in the adversaries spinning top tops. I am originally from Brazil, so my spinning top was just like the one in the Portuguese stamp. Cheers.
Ooo you had to sharpen tips to stay competitive, I remember losing several of mine to some lethal heavier tops with sharp tips. I have some good (and disappointing) memories playing with tops in the school yard :)
I love the direction this video took with the spinning tops 😂 as they say “practice makes perfect”! I am so glad you covered Eurpoa stamps! I have seen them before but never knew why they were called Eurpoa. I am excited to see what topics they will select in the future! I have spun a top before but only a cheap small one.
Whoa thats cool, I didn't realize how much of a history spinning tops had until making this episode, glad you enjoyed it and I'm jealous of your tops collection. Thanks for watching :)
Looking through these comments, its apparent that a few of us played with tops as a child :D Love that its given us all a flashback to our youth. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
~ Hahaha, the tops at the end! Glad you got your game back! 😂 Awesome way to end the video with top in hand like on the stamp! 👊🏽 On the lookout now for a Europa stamp or two!
LOL thank you, yep my game is back and I'm a serious top spinner now :D Keep a look out for Europa, you will be surprised how common they are each year, you probably have a few on your postcards already.
You are spot on with info about spinning tops. I lived in Chile for a short time in 1983-4. Spinning tops were popular then. I eventually, after lots of practice, was able to get a top to spin. It’s harder than it looks. Kites were also a popular child’s toy. Hey, that would make a great topic for a future video.
Great video. Unfortunately I don't have any stamps like this. But, maybe soon I will get some. I love the way, how you explore a story behind the stamps. I wish, I could also, do like that. thumbs up to your this video.
I remember the brightly painted pump spinners of my childhood. As winter is drawing nearer here in Ontario I’m thinking I will get out that stamp collection I inherited and try to do it justice.
Thank you! They are really interesting stamps, the early ones as well as the themed years, definitely a fun and fascinating collection to hunt for. Glad you like the video and thanks for watching :)
I am collecting all the stamps for 1970. I am thinking of having the Europa stamps twice--once to include on the pages for each country, and one set on a separate page for just Europa stamps. However, after seeing your video, I am considering collecting all the Europa stamps.....this is the second time you have done this to me. Thanks to another of your videos, I am seriously considering collecting stamps from the Antarctic.
I'm in the same situation as you. Each time I research an episode, I get excited about seriously building a collection around the topic/time period etc. The 70s stamps make for a fun decade to collect, also Europas would make a great collection... and Antarctic and and... ugh its not me its the stamps ;) Thanks for watching!!
Ah, my bad, I think you mentioned that in a different comment. One of my favs from that year is the brown USA American Bison Wildlife Conservation stamp... I had to get a full sheet of them.
Another awesome video i am not sure if i have any europa stamps or not i will have to look when i get home from my military deployment. I never was one for tops but we always had Dreidels at Hanukkah and they are like a top. cant wait to see what you will have next till then
Oh absolutely, Dreidels are the king of finger spinners. When you safely return from deployment you will probably find a number of Europas hiding in your collection :) More videos to come, thank you so much for watching Aaron!! - Graham
Wow amazing, I do have a lot of Europa stamps, but I never bothered to search about it. Thank you for the amazing information. I now plan to arrange all my Europa stamps together. The intro. Was great. Each episode feels like the new episode of a Netflix series. You could try that too (if you do include me in the credits😜😜).
Haha I will def include you in the credits! Excellent to year that you have several Europas already, I like the idea of arranging them together, try to identify the themes/years of your collection and perhaps build on them. Thanks for watching :)
Such a good summer time episode all the angles of the tops was really cool. I bet filming at the parking garage was loads of fun. As for Europa stamps I own a few A 1993 German stamp showing the art of Joseph Beuys A 2002 German Clown Stamp A 1976 German stamp showing off German Handcrafts A 1984 Belgium stamp showing off Bridges (Sadly its torn in the bottom left corner) And a 2002 Norway Clown stamp
It WAS loads of fun! It was also good getting some sun after winter. Interesting that the 2002 theme was circus, and so clowns were used a lot including your Norway and Germany stamps.... not good for people with Coulrophobia though... Thanks for watching as always :D
I have a couple of Europa stamps from Spain. Never realized that they had CEPT on them. Spinning tops reminded me of my childhood too (nostalgic). I was able to do few tricks like lifting the spinning top from ground on to the hand using the string.
At one point I remember 'flinging' the top in the air with the string, and then catching it in my hand... but I almost 'flung' the top in my teeth when I tried it while filming this episode... yikes! haha, glad it brought back memories for you as well, and good to hear that you have a few Europas already! thanks for watching.
Oh excellent!! the 2016 collection is really cool, I hope that you voted for the 2019 winner this year (link in description) Glad you liked the video, thanks for watching :)
Since Great Britain has this BREXIT business coming to fruition, they may issue a stamp. Then you can come back to this video and add that story into your presentation. Great presentation as usual.
I love Europa stamps! They were one of my first collecting interests but I got away from them. Now I know about CEPT and where that went. How many hours did the parking level games take to shoot? LOL. Thanks for the video!
I moved into collecting Europa stamps from collecting the stamps of Monaco. It's fascinating how different countries view the common theme. It helps with the albums I create for them as I am able to research the significance and relevance of the imagery and note it in the album.
Great episode! Since I was a kid I liked a lot Europa stamps: altough I didn't know at the time the meaning it was nice to feel the unity as an European! May I only point out a detail? When you show other Europa 1989 stamps from Portugal, the ones with the boat and the kite are actually from Azores and Madeira islands, that are part of Portugal but they have their own stamps (likewise the Channel Islands you mentions). Best!
Ah Yes! You are very correct (I had to scroll back and pause on the stamps to confirm) Adding this to the description, Thank you! Another thing I learned :D
@@ExploringStamps you are welcome! If you have any question about European philately, geography or history feel free to contact me, I can be helpful :D
Cork is also used as a cushioning layer when laying model railway tracks usually sold in rolls…..oh! And of course stamps from Portugal, very interesting video by the way
Great video as always. I was wondering if your going to do a segment, about Trucial states, it would be interesting to get your feedback on the good the bad and the ugly .... thanks
When I was in elementary school there was a big yoyo hype... I never managed to do any tricks. I knew Europa stamps started small, but I never really looked into the history. I didn't know Italy was one of the first six countries.
greetings from Belgium... love your show!! can you make a show about lighthouses from around the world? i know you already made one about usa lighthouses but you would make my day :)
Nice, a global lighthouse philatelist, very cool! I would love the challenge of visiting lighthouse depicted on stamps around the world.... actually I think I might briefly visit a lighthouse outside the U.S. in the next video ...hmmm, stay tuned! oh and thanks for watching :D
Excellent, I hope that you have voted for the best 2019 stamp on the Post Europ website. Some of the birds stamps are really epic, especially the predator birds! Thanks for watching :)
I collect worldwide up to 1970. Currently collecting Countries begining with A-M so I have all Europa stamps up to the letter M including Liectensteinn #356 which was an ouch when I purchased it.
Thank you Zoran, I start with some simple searches online, and that leads me to books, philatelic articles/magazines, and countless videos about the subjects on the stamps...I end up with a lot of information that I then try to shape a script around.
7:07 I have 2 crates just like that (one red and one yellow) won as a prize in a competition in a comic in the late 80s together with a bunch of other stuff.
Question for you: Do you know if each European country prints their own stamps? I heard France prints stamps for the Vatican and Monaco, but I'm not sure.
Great video! I have very recently inherited a stamp collection so I am very new to the hobby. The stamps are still in envelopes separated by country. Can someone point me to some good albums (maybe ring binders?) I can buy?
Take a look at Lighthouse binders and Lighthouse Varios pages. You can find them from stamp suppliers, on E-bay or through Amazon. The clear version is what Graham uses in his most recent videos. This allows flexibility in organizing and displaying your stamps. If you might want a more traditional album, try Stamp Albums Web. A small yearly fee allows you to print all the country pages you want on 81/2 x 11 paper. They fit in the Lighthouse binders I mentioned above or in regular binders you can find in office supply stores.
