When this car was manufactured in 1949, it was the most modern and luxurious car in the world for the money, even better than Rolls-Royce or Bentley, which cost 3-4 times as much. Others may have cost more, but they weren't "better". The fit and finish of these cars was impeccable, every detail was quality. The new overhead valve V8 engines exceeded the old flathead eight by leaps and bounds in every way, smooth, powerful, bulletproof, and able to cruise at 60-70 mph at a time before interstates, when most cars were geared to cruise at 50-55. It also had the new GM 4 speed "hydramatic" automatic transmission, at a time when other makes wouldn't introduce four speed automatics( or automatics of any kind) for many years. There was even the option for factory AC( an option on Cadillacs since 1941) and optional power windows....in 1949! Back then Cadillac truly was the "standard of the world". My, how far poor Cadillac has fallen. They've never been the same since the fuel crisis and the malaise era.
gorgeous Cadillac , seems to sit quite high, they must have lowered them around 51-52 because I don't remember them sitting this high. Nice Caddy this was the car that won the 1949 Motor Trend car of the year
Cars like the 1949 Cadillac may be very few and far in between, but with some research they can be found in various conditions; battered and abandoned will land an estimate of $300-$1250, decrepit yet functional are $1800- $10,000, mint and restored go for $13,000-$55,000, and restomods or restored to what it was traditionally are valued at $65,000-$1,000,000. Hope this helps!
Cadillac is the best and always outscores the opposition. You have a very nice unit. The valve covers are artistic! Myself, I have owned 14 Cadillacs since 1974. Always have a daily driver in my driveway. Currently have 4 ( 1970 SDV, 1981 Eldorado. 1981 Biarritz, 1987 SDV). My 1st car in 1971 was a 1960 Austin station wagon. After going to the local junk yards here in the Pacific NW I found a 1949 Cadillac hood ornament and installed on the Austin. Question- in your Utube is the compass on top of the dash Cadillac? Tip- I also had a couple of Cadillacs with pulsating speedometer dials. Both times it was an easy fix. I unscrewed the the end caps of the speedometer cable, squirted a couple of drops of oil on the cable, reinstalled and presto.....steady dial.
This car was purchased from the original owner's estate from what I know. Thank you for checking it out. I was blown away by it too. This was/is someones baby.
Caddies had V8s back to 1915, and ever since. Chevy had one in 1917 for a while. 53 was the first Buick OHV V8. The OHV Caddy (331) and OHV Olds Rocket (303) V8s of 49 created sensations in the public.
Absolutely Stunning!!👍
Beautiful Example of
American History!!
When cars were cars!! 😎
Couldn't agree more!
Beautiful, built in a time when quality had a different definition than today.
Absolutely and that was one of the better Cadillacs I've ever worked with, such correct awesome condition. Thanks for following Samspace81
I've become more and more of a Cadillac person over the years. They are just so well built. That's a really nice example you have there.
Central Cadillac is still operating here in Cleveland!!!
Wow I love that, they need this car in their showroom. Appreciate your comment and you following the Samspace 81 classic car channel, Bill
Pure class!
Oh for sure, that was a showroom condition car
Back when Cadillacs were dignified machines.
Now it's plastic junk.
for sure

Good stuff, great comment. Thank you for your viewership too - SAM
Some people say cars like these should be produced again. I don't think so, because if they are mass produced again they are nothing special anymore.

Awesome love vintage Caddya
In 1955 Cadillac virtually shrunk the 49 v-8 that was to be the 55 chevy v-8.🗽🗽🗽
WOW! What an amazing car! Is this a one owner car? Central Cadillac in Cleveland is still in business. Family owned business since 1942.

i drove one. when restoring these, please re-do the handles, so they don't sag, get rid of the pig metal
6 volt?
I believe so, yes.
+samspace81 2:22-2:33 Why is the speedometer bouncing back & forth? How could you tell your speed with it?
Thomas McGinley Z
@@thomasmcginley7944 Cops will tell you. They have a precise radars if you know what I mean.
49s didn't come with duals. Exhaust system modified
I thought GM did not come out with a V8 until 1953

Speedo cable needs lubed
Yes sir, love the old sounds these cars make. Enjoy the channel.
...even old Caddies become chitboxes over time...…..
