- I have filmed the new über-Golf: 2015 Volkswagen Golf VII R400. This one-off concept is recently unveiled at the Beijing motor show and has been developed by Volkswagen's R division in a program aimed at both showcasing its engineering prowess and range of customization.
Performance Golf VII R400:
Engine: 2.0 TSI producing 400HP and 450Nm
0-100 km/h: 3.9 seconds
Top Speed: 280 km/h

Not at all? its an opinion bro. I generally hate how 4 cylinders sound. I'm a V6, V8, V12 kind of guy. Not to forget the 3 cylinders out there and inline 6's and the one or two inline 5's. I hate 4 cylinders. So yes, I am NOT kidding.
Have to agree, the Merc A45 AMG doesnt stand a chance on this...
I hoped for a 5 or 6 cylinder... Too bad it didn't went into production! At least in Forza Horizon 5 we can have this Bodykit and the RS3 five cylinder engine! In real life I like the R36 VR6 engine swaps by HGP!😍😉

As a current owner of a mk5 gti ed30 stage 2...this r400 is amazing....its a.car that you just wouldnt mod......just add fuel!

Its good to have options R400 and R are nice models, but I would want the bi-turbo charged R32!
Sounds better, probably way more powerful and have a higher potential for tuning.
Fuel economy? meh not as good obviously as the regular R's, but modern technology is awesome so it should have some fuel saving bells and whistles like cyl cutting and a fuel saving mode and a performance mode ofc.
Well I can dream, the R400 is beast though.

The whole reason they did away with the VR6 was because its a boat anchor in the front of the car leading to horrible under steer. I'd much rather have a light 4 turbo than that.
Yeah you telling me!! and I totally agree, they could of bolted the S4 3.0T in that car instead of another 2.0L turbo and brought back that narrow angle V6 sound in some way and then really the R400 would stand apart from every other car that has this 2.0T, uhm way too many to list!!

What a little beast impressive 0-60 can't wait to see what revo and apr can do with it. The stage 1 revo on my golf r is fucking unreal 0-60 is 4 seconds (it's manual) best car I've owned hands down.
i wonder why manufactures never release concepts of their cars? they release something that looks like they didn't even try. this car is just perfect. i really dig every aspect of this car (with the exclusion of the exhaust).

bojidar opopopo My Volkswagen has a 1.8L Turbo..It has 273 588 km on it and it's running fine. I take care of my car though lol
Heartagram Yes but you dont have 300HP ( Normal VW R ) lol :D.. 300 hp for 2l engine is a little bit scary, i'm not sure about reliability
bojidar opopopo Well, that's true..I have 170hp lol. I'll assume if the car is driven normally, it should hold up fine. But there are plenty of cars that have small 1 liter or even smaller engines and have made it over 150 000km. Even bikes do that lol. But you have a genuine concern.

Prob will cost 50k. I find it hard to spend that sort of money on a 4 cyl turbo which is essentially a tuned Golf R. Cool car though. Live on 6MT! Keep making them!! Hope it makes it to the states!

A VR6 should be under the hood instead. If they have a VR6 base model looks the same and they sell the bodykit, I would build my own and build. But that is a sweet looking hatch.

Anything new is appealing to be quite honest, but it sounds like shit. They need to bring back the vr6 tuned and with a 3.2 L. Enough of this economic bullshit.

+tredfxman mk7 gti has numb ass steering. with fwd you want torque steer. it gives feedback. the suspension has roll to it when your at its limit. other hot hatches have more linear suspension, more stable at the limit. it's got too many options. that's why imo it's more of a girly car now. I'd take a fiesta st over the gti any day.
awesome car. if the 0-60 is true, at 3.9 seconds it competes against cars like BMW M3 or Ford Shelby GT500. i think $55k USD would be a reasonable price.
Daniel13l Yes but reliability and consumption ? Fuel economy = awefull compared to some regular 4.0+ engine, and reliability.. 100 000 km = engine down.. 55K for a car with tones of problems..

Only 18 year olds like such an exhaust note but none of them can afford one. So i'd say get rid of the big loud pipes and offer the R Gold with this as an optional performance pack. Will do the trick.

It's funny the fact VW have this as a one off concept car when Mercedes has the A45 as a production car with very similar performance.
This car is going in production when is not sure but Some say this summer and it is going to have 420 hp

You are right, but it is a shame IMO.
Bigger engines are stronger. A VR6 engine is powerful and got that epic sound but the Turbo'd 4cyl Golf R engine is real effective and so far the best engine in a stock Golf yet performance wise and I kind of cannot fault it for that.
R400 sounds beefier than the stock R, but still like the R32 sound more as it is more pitchy and growly at the same time this is more like monotonous thunder. But its a nice soothing thunder.
I wish VW would bring back the VR6, maybe have it turbo charged (bi-turbo sounds great to me) in some way and implement cyl cutting mode for better economy. it will be fast, strong and the tuning potential and sound alone will be awesome.
Will it be enough? Maybe not but I'd love it, choices are good you know... Oh well lets hope the R400 makes it as a production model before VW goes full electric. The R400 is awesome not denying that its just that I love the VR6, in fact lots of people still do.

i read you shod be able to unlimit the speed up to 280 km/h on this car when its released in September 2015.
