And once at a Ramones show, I found myself in the middle of the Slam Circle. But I was not ready for it, so I got out and had another beer, and that back in the Slam Circle and pogoed all night! :-)
As a Ramones die-hard since I first saw them in September, 1976, that was very enjoyable... for a lot of us who found the 1970's sucking really bad, the Ramones saved our souls... seeing them for the first time was like seeing the future, which was the same feeling I had 12 years earlier when I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan as a 9 year old... nothing would be the same again
Hey! Keep the content up! Love the Ramones ! And I was an early 70’s rocker, who loved the Laurel Canyon scene, and eventually became a dedicated “Armadillo” head. But I got to visit the east side, in Manhattan, several times in the mid to late 70’s! My American cousin (I’m Canadian) had just become the youngest fully licensed, commercial airline pilot in the US! I met him in New York a few times, and stayed with him at company paid for hotel accommodations in Manhattan. I actually saw the Ramones at GBGB’s very early on. I went to GBGB’s 3-4 times. Every other band was completely unremarkable - except the Ramones - they totally blew me away, immediately. They became what New York meant to me for the next 30 years! (now it’s a shadow of its former self - Escape From New York! now!) Peace
When I first heard their first album, I thought it was awful. After the third listen, they became one of my favorites. About a year later, I joined a local music magazine as a photographer and writer. Over the next 3 years, I interviewed the Ramones 3 times
I used to work for 91X and was in Pasadena Pet Odors, I have seen and known the great Ramones personally since 1984, I still talk to Marky, knew Dee Dee very well, saw him play his final gig in Ocean Beach
@@AutomatedPersonellUnit_3947 I appreciate that! Tell your friends - I'm tryna grow this thing haha. Or if Marky wants to talk to me and tell me his story I'm all ears 😂
That fast, raw, badass sound is what I enjoyed about that punky Ramones sound of the latter 1970s. My folks loved fookin' elevator music, sooo boring. Bands like the Ramones made liberating art of music that was setting free people like me.
People can bash Johnny all they want, the man was the only sober and sane guy working every hour of every day to keep the band together while surrounded by addicts. That would make anyone pissy over time.
The counterpoints would be that he chased out the other sober member (Tommy) and behaved in such a way that it almost certainly made said addictions worse for the other and members.
Surprised to see no mention of CJ Ramone. But, to be fair, as far back as Marky's sacking in the 80s, they had become their own tribute act as they had nothing new to add of note since being recorded by Phil Spector.
They were never revolutionary afterwards, but still churned out many classic songs, so I wouldn't just call them "a tribute band". By that logic, vast swaths of pop-punk could be labeled a Ramones tribute band.
You refer to Clem Burke but no mention of CJ Ramone? CJ played more shows than Tommy and Richie, and wrote songs. This was poorly done and fairly inaccurate

The first time I heard a Ramones album, I thought all their songs sounded the same. But later I thought they were the greatest Rock and Roll ever! :-)

I knew and saw them dozens of times in So Cal

That's so cool! I'm jealous. I'll forever be bummed that I didn't get to see the Ramones in those early days (or at all)

The Ramones and the Damned for me created the soundtrack of the late 70’s. I am so glad I was there to experience it. Gabba Gabba Hey 😎.
The 2 best punk bands I’ve ever heard
@@Indieguitarist2007 Without any doubt my friend 👍

U2 did a nice Ramones cover during their promotional shows in late 2000 before the Elevation tour. "I Remember You"
Ramones are the greatest band of all time
You two should do the history of television.
They’ve definitely been on my list. Such an important band that I feel like most people don’t know about
If joey ramone was alive in 2024 he would be proud

didn't know johnny has a soft spot about joey
6:37 is that marky looking at tommy play the drums? looks to be from 1978 according to tommy's shorter hair
Really love this style of content!
Very very good!
Great video by the way
Shouldn’t this be 2:36 minutes long?

the later albums are all half great, and half filler... but the half great half always had amazing new songs...
