You can do R&D (and then distribution) through the US Government or Private. Historically, the US Gov't has been a horrible allocator of funds for just about anything. Red tape and waste. Private sector is where the innovation lies (mostly). Incentives must be in place for the Private sector. There is no "correct" answer, just one that is clearly worse than the other. He said they did $40MM on the one drug. Spread that out amongst the insurance carriers and/or gov't funding to try and save 2000 lives. $40MM is a drop in the bucket for the industry and this country.
Interesting argument here. I understand the justification for raising the price, especially if it mostly affects the insurance companies. The bigger issue is that development of many pharmaceuticals is financed by the government and therefore tax paying citizens have already purchased the drug, so to speak. I guess the bigger question is why is there a for-profit pharmaceutical industry in America at all?
Dude deserves more credit for his down to earth viewpoints, despite what ever set backs may have happened, he’s always challenged the status quo and thought outside of the box.
basically he's say creating a monopoly is ok. he's acting like he's doing a great service for humanity, meanwhile is profiting greatly. this is what's going with inflation, it's like capitialism is in a hyper form where it's cannibalizing itself. rent, property taxes, health insurance, electronic components, damn near everything is out of control-there should be ethic laws that cut down these predatory practices.
Amazing how ignorant people are of economics and the fact that this man is absolutely right and he in fact DID create access to medication by raising the prices.

the real problem is he says the texas company was selling 40 million/ yr but that was a money loser? when the cost of production was likely 10% of that at most. so instead they were making other drugs that they made more money on? so those other drugs are overpriced. it's the entire industry . eisenhower should have warned of the drug industrial complex not the military industrial complex.
Nah he’s twisted…. He said a drug that can save your life should cost more ? 😢 wow, just give me 10 of his bad days of making 2million a day and we can call it …. Cold blooded

People saying its unethical literally doesn't understand economics. Its probably unethical to raise price 100x but at some point the price has to be raised so the company can raise money and so they can still produce the drug, and so they can expand and make new drugs for different illnesses.
And let's be honest the real problem is not the price of drugs, but people lifestyles lack preventive measures. We need to live and eat better. Medicine is not a cure only a suppressant.
Nope, not bad pr, just humans being idiots like usual. Paying 0 attention and doing 0 research into what's actually going on, as long as the headline gives them someone to hate. I was getting this giy mixed up with NEVIN SHAPIRO. VLAD GO FIND AND INTERVIEW NEVIN SHAPIRO!
Shkreli: *5min verbal circle jerk to make himself seem like gandi for raising the price*
Vlad: "so by my calculations you made 160 million".
Shkreli: "Well we had to hire a janitor to clean the washrooms and change the logo of the company"
Should be illegal
lol ok kid
Hes charging the insurance company
you need to take some business classes and learn how about how companies survive.
im sure monopoly laws would step in , usa needs to introduce them
2:24 this might be the reason why them people came.. that price was so high
That shirt collar looks like a fruit roll up 😂

Man out of all the people dying, he couldn't be one of em?
I had a kidney stone once and thought I was dying from a ruptured appendix or something. They had to shoot me up with morphine.
basically he's say creating a monopoly is ok. he's acting like he's doing a great service for humanity, meanwhile is profiting greatly. this is what's going with inflation, it's like capitialism is in a hyper form where it's cannibalizing itself. rent, property taxes, health insurance, electronic components, damn near everything is out of control-there should be ethic laws that cut down these predatory practices.
Sleezeball it’s called being inhumane by raising the price from 1.00 to 30.00
The insurance companies are the ones who pay the new price..
Amazing how ignorant people are of economics and the fact that this man is absolutely right and he in fact DID create access to medication by raising the prices.
Half the people in the comments are like damn “I hated this guy because everyone else said to I’m a sheep and a dumbass who listens to whatever I’m told “ 😂
Fake news media and social media even worse when it comes to mis information and lying but than as always they turn it around and claim the people telling the truth are the real 1s spreading lies. Luckily slowly but surely, more people coming around and common sense going to prevail in the end. After alot of misery and suffering and untold damage but those people will pay for that 1 way or the other eventually. Karma always comes for them
Isn't everyone about the moneythis days including politicians so the government needed a scapegoats
3 boys in the world, dying of this disease. remember this sad story, im not a slimeball, 3 dying kids, sad sad story.
when we ask if healthcare is a privlege or a right, we have to take a look at this. If you genuinely are offering a public service, you dont need to raise the price that much for research. It bout business and the bottom line. The American way
Capitalist country!
He’s not offering a public service. He’s an investor moron. How much money have u donated to health care since you think he should be so charitable with his??
This guy won’t stand a chance in the purge….
the real problem is he says the texas company was selling 40 million/ yr but that was a money loser? when the cost of production was likely 10% of that at most. so instead they were making other drugs that they made more money on? so those other drugs are overpriced. it's the entire industry . eisenhower should have warned of the drug industrial complex not the military industrial complex.
I love Martin
Your price is way to high, you got to cut it.
Hydrangea pills do the same thing
title is misleading the pill was from US$13.50 to US$750 per pill overnight lol

Besides the bad PR, what did he ACTUALLY do wrong?
Nah he’s twisted…. He said a drug that can save your life should cost more ? 😢 wow, just give me 10 of his bad days of making 2million a day and we can call it …. Cold blooded
The matrix went after him just like they did to Andrew Tate.
Lies‼️Vlad caught his ass 💀
This guy’s clearly a sociopath.
Ok im glad vlad did this…that American greed episode had dude looking like the worst person 😂
No, I see this same logic with profiteers in other industries. People with insane incentive to do shitty, immoral things justify their shittiness in other ways.
Man, this guy is reduced to doing paid interviews for Vlad?
“Why are your goons not as hard as mine?” Pause

BAHAHAHA!
He’s got Bill “drug the world” tendencies. It’s always these odd ish, never got women in school, revenge of the nerds types. They worship money bc it make them feel valid in their own skin. If he had no money, he’d have to depend on his looks and personality alone. He’d be a “non-factor”.
Lol I remember when he held the carter 5 hostage n made that video
Society should put their money together, trillions, and make their own drugs, cheap.
But private companies wouldn't like that.
Profits over people.....

Why did they say it was a pill for cancer when they reported on this back in the day?
he did multiple deals like this for different diseases
Because media lied
To be honest I disliked the guy for it, maybe it was bad PR...But him explaining it like this makes sense. If it's true of course.
Nope, not bad pr, just humans being idiots like usual. Paying 0 attention and doing 0 research into what's actually going on, as long as the headline gives them someone to hate. People who weren't dumbasses looked it up the same month it happened and have never had any ill will towards dude. Didn't need 10 years and an interview from a hip hop outlet.
Honestly this is insightful. Kudos to him and the patients who needed the drug.
So he uses the logic of a different drug…peacan…to justify raising the price of another…..🤦🏾♂️ 5:35 ….did he at least make more of the drug for the 2k people after the price hike?🤷🏾♂️ that part wasn’t clear
Well, it kinda makes sense. Honestly, I thought this dude was a jerk. He's not bro, he moves fast with ideas, and nerdy, but that's it. Not bsn around.
I’d rather vlad talk to drug dealers than these guys. At least dealers did what they did out of necessity to a certain extent but this mofo was literally trying to make money off other ppl pain
I dunno, I like this guy.
Just to shows you how important hearing both side matters… use to think bro was an ass hole till now.
