  • In recent decades, the “pictorial turn” has illuminated the potential of visual materials as valuable historical sources, not merely as supplements to written text. Simultaneously, the “global turn” has emphasized that European history is deeply interconnected with global exchanges of ideas, goods, and people. In this lecture, Dr. Tremblay will present his pioneering work on queer history through the lens of LGBTQIA+ visuals from a global perspective. His research focuses on the German and Euro-American queer memories of National Socialism and the visuals of LGBTQIA+ emancipation since the 1970s centered around the so-called Pink Triangle. His talk will illustrate how visual history serves as a powerful tool for writing queer history, transcending linguistic and geographical boundaries.
