im so scared to a fashion designer cause I never wanna be in a "rise and fall" video 😭! I love the rise ones though, it's great that this channel has introduced me to so many new designers!
Its an inevitability of anything creative. A fall doesnt mean the company closing and goinng under, but in business as in life and entertainment things come and go from popularity. Prepare for it well, weather the storm, and any fallen company can come back stronger than ever. The idea of endless growth is a fallacy and often does more harm than good ❤️
Just wanted to say thank you so much for your videos. It is so evident how much time and care you put towards your craft. I learn so much in every video and I would like to let you know how much it is appreciated
What a lovely message to read thank you so much! Yeah of course it takes a long time to research (and often to confirm my memory is correct) but I truly enjoy it so much, so its great that I found people that are just as interested 🥰
It's incredible to see so many designers come from Pheobe Philo: Peter Do, Daniel Lee, Matthieu Blazy, etc. I think that the only designer who has birthed more designers than Philo is Nicolas Ghesquière.
ive recently decided i want to work in the fashion industry, most likely PR and/or marketing and this is a great lesson in marketing I think. Really interesting how the brand uses its proximity to more famous brands and ppl to promote itself and it works but all the downsides you pointed out as well are so true. Excellent video!
@@understitchYT i feel like you’d be suited tho, no? you’re so well spoken and research a lot for your videos i imagine that would translate to thorough work in PR as well :)
I remember in 2019, when I first saw the models with the backless jackets I didn’t even know who made them but I knew i wanted one so badly. I looked into their insta, they where blooming even then. It is that very 21st century minimal style with that soft subversion. But then I felt like they went off the map. I guess I couldn’t keep up with the amount of stuff but also some of it gave me the feeling of Instagram brands that all blended together. Then when they had the show with NCT it felt like this fascinating culmination. Because the backless jacket was back and better than ever. And the show felt alive but not yet crystallized. And I think it’s that Instagram element that shot them up so fast while they could hide so much with that curated lense. It just feels like one of those brands where in a lot of ways reality just meets them halfway. Like you said there are still a lot of questions about how it came together I’d be fascinated to know. It’s a brand with so much promise and class, and I’m not even that into minimalism so they really have something there.
And of course thats not to say they can't succeed on this Instagram amalgamated aesthetic, they just have to continue to brand it well. Sometimes, especially for minimalistic brands, its less about the actual design and more about the brand's world, though in fairness the ones that have had lasting legacy all have had a point of difference, like Helmut Lang's advertising or The Row's underground artistic positioning
amazing video aside, ive been a fan of Peter Do since 2018 and there was some stuff i didn't know. I really need a comprehensive list of how many designers came out of phoebe's celine holy shit. maybe you can do one of those string boards lol
I’m late lol but I’ve commented before but I’ve learned about so much on fashion and the houses and even the life of karl lager field ? On this channel also I really hope we’ll see a behind the face ( origin reason etc) but still great channel
i love love love their boots! jeno opening the show was amazing to watch + i really loved how they styled seulgi that day. they released a short film 'Time' and i enjoyed watching that. rooting for peter do, i personally am not a minimalist but i do think they can go quite far!
I believe that Peter Do does pose an interesting place in Fashion here, they are stuck with the "Helmut Lang" Mark, but as pointed out, they can either profit from it, or fall. What I think has to happen for Peter Do, is either a new interpretation of Helmut Lang and his influence or a split. There is no alternative. Great Video
@@understitchYT seeing heliot emil next to Helmut Lang and row is kind of an offensive sentence hahaha, but I get what you mean and I think that is the main point for their brand right now, they need a established spot and a personality in their style I think
The Peter Do brand is mostly too minimalist for my taste but I do like the detachable utility trench and the detachable pleated trench in the collab with BR. I think my takeaway from this is, I like Peter Do's coats :-) @@understitchYT
When are you gonna make a video on rick owens? Im specifically interested in his past and come up. the fact he started by making illegal copies of designer clothes I find so interesting
I obviously really want to, but I think that will be an enormous project, so I’d like to get McQueen completely done first, before I start to tackle Rick Owens. Something tells me Rick will be a longer project than McQueen, and so far McQueen has taken me eight months
Balancing Helmut Lang’s legacy with his own label is a tough act-if Peter Do’s work there feels off-brand, it could risk diluting the strong identity he’s built for his own line
He just needed to do a better job of dividing his signifiers, or making sure they were very very distinct. If he had managed to do that then I think it would’ve been a match made in heaven.
That may be everyone’s wish at the table. While he’s undeniably talented, overproducing so many designs can dilute the brand image, making it harder to create desire. If you asked me to choose one image to capture Do, I can only think of the open-back jacket. The reality is, sometimes even the clearest signifiers aren’t enough. In fashion, especially today, the start of a label and its image is everything-it sets the tone for everything that follows. He should have thought about investing more in his art direction team-big names like Juergen Teller, Sorrenti or collaborations with established American artists from the ’90s and early aughts could have built the nostalgia element fashion is currently operating on. This could have worked for his own brand or even the Helmut Do rebrand, while still strategically infusing his Celine-esque cuts. I know he attempted this in some ways, but I’m thinking bigger and better. Plus, the logo is practically unrecognizable-it’s time for a push to strengthen the image and reach press. I’ll leave out making criticisms on his designs, though-this is all about the bigger picture.
Wasn't aware of this brand till the latest Helmut Lang collection. Although some of the designs ( back-cut heart shaped shirts/jackets ) are very appealing to the eye, there is a dominant minimalistic austerity throughout the collections that is very heavy and doesn't let you breath. Maybe their perfectly curated presentations need to lighten up a bit in order to let a little bit of joy in. Watching their runway as i was watching your video, i wasn't surprised by an element as i usually do by John Galliano on Margiela or Rick Owens on their shows. Definitely they have produced very nice garments and clothing, but the brand doesn't stand out, like you say.
I certainly think they can though, they made an amazing brand awareness for themselves, and in fashion, these days, that is a good part of the battle. As long as they can sustain themselves long enough to fully become what they are intending to be, theyll be well formed in the emd, and they seem to be doing very well at for now. So only time will tell 🤷
@@understitchYT No the Maxi pleated Wool and the mini pleated, also my browser was jumpy this morning they are actually $2600 and $2100, still those are not even in the realm of affordable to the vast majority.
