preordered the 2024 G14 4070, and 32GB ram. Im loving this new design and how thin it is. super excited to have a thin, light, and powerful laptop for school! I had originallly bought the zephyrus M16 4070, and the battery life was way worse than I was expecting, even with extensive tweaking. also for my use a 16in was not as portable for me. super excited to get this in!
Today I bought the G14 RTX 4060 with 16gb open box from best buy under 1100.00 Super happy with my purchase. I mainly play warzone and this thing gets 110 to 130 with DLSS. Looks amazing on OLED. Speakers are crazy loud and clear with low end. Typing for school feels comfortable. Super portable and light. Nicest laptop I've purchased since my 2013 MacBook Pro.
So at the end, g14 with 4060 from 2023 (about 1050$ at bestbuy right now), have about same performances as g14 from 2024 and with 4070 (2000$)...who iz crazy here (Asus)! Ok, you are getting better chasy and display, but for 2x money; no thanks! Long live Legion slim 5 14"
better slimmer chassis, screen, trackpad, speakers, battery life, heat you feel and more. The soldered mem really sucks but i see people going for it. The last one is on sale so its not going to be around much longer
The 4060 variant is literally a bottleneck and even worse for 2024. The reason being is from even higher resolution. The laptop has improved in every way, yet was went back on AAA gaming performance. It’s just not powerful enough. I returned the 2023 G14 4060 for the 4080, and it was night and day. Nvidia needs to also do better with the 60 variant.
That's best buy doing crazy clearing sale though. The 2023 g14 is here 1850,- and that's in a sale. A week ago it was still around 2000. The 2250 for the 2024 model seems more in line then. The slim14 is around 1600, but I'd also way more heavier and cheaper feeling. Doesn't make it bad , but prices go up when you want more boxes ticked. There are loads of laptops over 2000 that don't even have a gpu for instance. I want something that's basically a Ultrabook but with a low-end gpu. I dont want a numpad, and some kind of high refresh rate (90hz or more) and no Intel cpu. The only laptops I could choose from are the slim14 and the g14 , both 2023 and 2024. The extra size and weight of the 2023 and the slim14 were instant deal breakers. But that's of course not for everyone , and also not the same deal if you find gaming power more important.
You actually confirmed it's a glass overlay instead of just a glossy coating. Yay. No one else seems to care. The screen is also semi-gloss, that's why it looks weird at certain angles. The reflections are clearly less bright than pure glossy displays, although I'd rather have the anti-reflective coated glass of the omen transcend 14 or book4 ultra over the Asus solution, which looks oily and icky in certain lighting conditions.
This laptop is the closest thing to a MacBook Pro I have ever used in not just looks but functionality. I was using the Legion Slim 5 14.5" before this and I love that laptop also but it doesn't compare to the ASUS. After traveling and using the ASUS for 2 weeks straight its no question this was the laptop for me. Build, battery, screen, audio, trackpad, camera...everything is top notch and doesn't scream gaming laptop.
good video my dude as always. cinebench once again losing to the legion 14. Thin laptop will always have thermal limits. I was expecting it to perform equal or worse than last year g14, losing to the g14 2023 as well as the Legion 14" oled. Looks to be as expected. Comparing these results to my g14 vs legion 5 slim video looks like the performance is a pretty significant downgrade this year.... feels bad Its unfortunate that the g14/16 have moved into the creator category, no longer being gamer laptops (despite the ROG name). ASUS already makes a slew of creator laptops.... quite a bit for trad-off for an OLED screen. Tbh for this price, people should just consider ASUS's creator laptops for cheaper, or if gamers look at the upcoming HP OMEN Transcend, 2023 legion 5 slim OLED, or other upcoming laptops.
That screen wobble is driving me crazy..I don't think I can handle that if I were to purchase this G14. Other than that, great laptop overall. Thanks for the video.
Oled burning isn't a problem on phones .. it hasnt been on the first oled laptops at all. Only bigger screens, and qd-oled is worse even more (and this isnt qd oled, right?). Saying that, there are tools on board to do pixel refresh. Also a trick to put the display on high brightness (so there is no pwm flickering) and then control brighrness in software. This helps with no flickering and also not driving the pixels as hard.
Is it possible to use the laptop in closed position (Docked for TV / monitor)? Or will the thermal be bad for it? Also, does the chassis of the laptop vibrates on high volume like previous models as well?
Ive been eyeing for this model but it seems like the previous version is much of a better deal. But if we compare the 2022 and 2023 g14, people said that the 2022 gives a lot more for cheaper price. Should i go for the 2022? Or wait for the 2024 price drop?
The 2023 model at $1049 is a really great value if you need a laptop now. If you don’t need a laptop now, you always wait and see what happens to prices long term
I just ordered this as my new developer computer with the possibility to play some games. I went for the black one with 4070 and 32gb. Thanks for the review! I liked the sleek design, a real gaming sleeper in the office.
Im between G16 2023 (1500) and this laptop G14 2024 (1800). I’d like to ask tho how the screen is gonna hold up. I’ve never had an OLED and for a laptop you have some elements that stay on the screen for a lot of time. Like windows taskbar or coding programs/Unity I’m working. Also I only have 16GB ram where I live. Is it that bad to go for only 16GB of ram without the ability to upgrade it?
So the new 2024 g14 no longer got vapor chamber cooling, despite the size being compact and its powering a 80w gpu in there along with a powerful cpu😂 those beauty “upgrades” comes with a downgrade😂
Been refreshing pages for a month and 32gb models are still out of stock everywhere unless you want to pay +400$ for a preorder.. worst laptop roll out in history.
Hey Gizmo just for clarifying YOU DONT NEED the Ryzen 9 7940HS CPU to get the Legion 5 14" with an RTX 4060 GPU. I have one myself and yes while I did buy it when it came out (so no major discount), I got myself one with Ryzen 7 7840HS, RTX 4060, an a 1TB SSD, only 16gb of ram since I don't need more. I got it after tax for around $1420. So yeah I think this is a viable option, even if you find it on sale you can get the same specs for around $1300. Its been a proper laptop.
@@GizmoSlipTech at least Cyberpunk is VERY high CPU bound and it will take every watt possible from CPU, so NO - it's not games fault, it's very low CPU+GPU power limit of this laptop
this is really bad, and a step backward for G14, making excuses, its the same CPU, low powered GPU, and very expensive, screen is nice but you can get the same on the 14inch Lenovo, if you want the design just get the higher power Razer 14 4060 and it does not have soldered RAM
🤔 so basically the same performance with a higher resolution display…. OLED panel…..better battery life…. Faster response due to OLED which I’ve noticed instantly between the 2 models having both…. Better speakers…… much speaker design but this is preference….. better performance than the HP omen 14 i tested which is 1,699 vs 1,599……. Much better build quality no longer feels like cheaper plastic…..hmmm idk feels better to me and I have them both …..
