Yes Indeed SL2 is still a Great Camera 2019 and I believe it is more user-friendly for all the Beginner photographer/Videographer at this price range(India)👌
I have been a photography hobbyist for years now, being a Canon DSLR user ever since, and developing arms and shoulder muscles due to its heavy weight, especially with my various lenses on. Last year I bought an SL2 for my additional photo and video applications. I feel like a new hobbyist again! My old DLSR has continuously become envious of my SL2. I wonder why? ;-)
Fantastic vid thanks for this. No annoying 2 minute intros, repeating the same things, constantly begging for something. Video looks great as well super clean.
Yes it is still a fantastic camera in 2019! I still use it for travel photos and videos. The SL2 has not disappointed me! Highly recommended especially for beginners with DSLR's in mind!
Answering the Question: Is the SL2 a good option in 2019 ....absolutely. The year doesn’t govern its value. It’s a great camera for beginners and semi pro alike. The key is storytelling. Can you tell a compelling story with this camera? YES!!
Tech Gear Talk sure is and in a way that’s kind of a shame because there use to be pride in content now it just about the dollar ONLY. Art is important too. Quality is important....story is important.
Could not agree more, I'm using a Pentax from 2012, The Canon SL1 from 2013 and Samsung EXF2 from 2012 I believe and iPhone XR... Learn the basics of light and composition plus storytelling and forget about buying any new gear.
@@TechGearTalk I ordered the 200D just 2 days later. I am so pleased with it. The 250D is on the market right now but I'll stick with this one for a while. Thanks again for the great review
@@TechGearTalk Actually, decided against it, for the moment. I'm enjoying my M4/3 system and it's working for me now. Who knows, maybe in a year, especially if the price drops even more, I'll consider adding it to my collection.
You've made up my mind for me! I've been searching round forevermore to try and find the right upgrade from a bridge camera! I've found it in the SL2/200D. Give Macie a big hug from me! She is beautiful.
@@TechGearTalk That's exactly what I realized, to get rid of them now when I was still getting some money on them, as their value is constantly decreasing. As a former professional photographer I believe that I have the right skills to take great photos with any camera, but 200D is just perfect! what's the best thing for it is the value for money as said in this awesome video.
Hey, was just seeing your video and now, I'm even more happier that I bought the SL2 :D Here in Germany, it's called EOS 200D. For beginners (such I am), it is perfect to get close into the functions and effects on fotography. Nice video! Learned about functions which I did not even expect with that camera, thanks :)
Got 200D this year. Best budget camera even this year. Enjoying every moment with this camera. Love your review man, keep helping me out on this camera.
I see the SL2 as a little brother of 80D. There is such an option, like built in Timelaps; 60fps video possibility at 1080p; fast autofocus and face tracking. Almost same. I think, both of them are best cameras in DSLR section - SL2 for beginners & 80D for advanced users.
What a beginner .. !! If you know how to make good video and photo content, the 80D and sL2 do not have the sls as the headphone input to check the audio while recording the video.
@@TechGearTalk I ordered the sl2, but then later watched your sl3 vs. sl2 comparison video, and now Im starting to wonder if I should return the sl2 as soon as I get it and order the sl3 instead, since it gives the option of shooting videos in 4K, and I’ll be using it mostly for videos...or Maybe I should just use the sl2 and see how I like it first.
@@TechGearTalk Good call! I've been taking pics and videos of anything and everything with my SL2 since I got it about a week ago. Really loving it, it's an amazing little machine. thanks again!!
Dropped by to rewatch the video that inspired me to buy my first camera in November 2019. My Canon 200D went through many projects and rough conditions until I upgraded to the Sony A7III in January 2022. I still use the 200D as a backup camera on set. Thanks a lot for making a clear review on this camera. Wouldve bought an rx100 instead if i havent watched this vid lol
I love my SL2! I ended up buying a second camera (80D) because the SL2 lacked one thing-a headphone jack to monitor audio. I needed this option for shooting interviews. However, my SL2 is still my go-to for vlogging. The size and weight is perfect.
Thank you for the simplified yet sophisticated intro to the Canon SL2! You kept my attention on the product specs ... it does not hurt that you look like Jeff Goldblum circa 1986! :) Wonderfully presented intel for a novice I-phone photographer.
Thank you for this very detailed review!! I've been using a Rebel T3 ever since I started blogging 5 years ago and I feel so limited and frustrated, especially now that I've started a RUclips channel. I just stumbled upon a reasonably priced refurbished SL2 (trying to be green by not buying new :) and you convinced me to buy it! I love that it has a flip screen, integrated WiFi and that you can control it with your phone! Can't wait to start playing with it! :)
Just picked up this camera last week on a great Boxing Day Sale. My decision was based on your videos regarding the camera. Thank you for the great content .Now to learn how to use it.
@@TechGearTalk so far I love it like I said I really don't know how to use it yet. I picked up the camera for 560 Canadian and also pick up the rode micro.
thanks for this! You really help me to decide to cop one this 2019. I'm just starting up to learn photography. Yet your content is easy to understand. Keep it up sir.
I have sl2, bought last month. It's very handy and it captures true colors. I saw your videos before buying sl2 so thanks a lot again for guiding thousands of people like me. Happy New year 🎉
@tech gear Talk nice vid new sub btw can u recomend me for photogrammetry ?if u don't know that all i ask it's sharp image to get the details and can lense 50 give me sharp images ?
I bought my SL2 based on one of your earlier reviews and I am soooooo happy I did. I find it compact and light and easy to take with me anywhere. We've taken it snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, tubing, just to name a few. The photos I have taken are amazing IMO, so much better than my phone, and will only get better as I learn to use more settings and features. Such an amazing camera, I am sure I will love it for years to come. Thanks for the amazing info. Very clear, very concise, so appreciated.
I have the 7D II and the 200D (and many other cameras) and this is my #1 choice. It is fantastic and far superior to the 7D II if you don’t need high frame rate and weather sealing. I love the 200D and it deserves to be highlighted. Thank you for making this video.
Tech Gear Talk canon lenses, 50mm f1.8, 100mm f2.8 macro, 17-55mm f2.8, 10-22mm f3.5-4.5, and my baby 70-200mm f2.8. I basically use the 17-55 and the 70-200 90% of the time. But all the other lenses are good and have their uses ;)
Well if you can buy lens (250-800€) + 150€ for adapter + m50 Price ans you love vlog go for it but if you are a beginner sl2 have more battery that you will need for practice I think. In my opinion the best move is sl2 then invest later if you enjoy photography with probably better hybrid on market in the future where 4k arent crop and got autofocus
For me the sl2, although the m50 has 4k its cropped the body is tiny! Its kinda hard to fit in your hands even i felt it uncomfortable and i have tiny hands, the adapter for the m50 is fairly cheap at 60$
Using $100 dollar phone and a DSLR is like a dream for a poor like me. Can't take my hobby to next level because of this. But this phone made me interested in photography.
In November 2016 when I bought my first "good camera" on a budget, I scored a Panasonic G7 for $320 new after using some coupons and reward points. It ticked all the boxes I wanted in a good camera. I now use it with a Viltrox EF-M2 speedbooster $140ish fyi) and Sigma 18-35 f1.8, and it looks amazing. I wish the SL2 was around back when I made that choice, as there would have been a good chance that the dual pixel AF would have swayed me over.
That is an incredible setup. That SB together with my favorite lens of all time. Agree that the DPAF is a game changer. Appreciate you participating in the community and sharing your insights.
🙏🙏 Thanks for your in detailed review of the sl2. I got one and it’s awesome. It’s worth every penny for a beginner. Keep up the great work. Now I have to master Premier pro. Lol.
I have an SL1 since 2014 and I'm very happy with what it can do. I've shot weddings, pets, landscape, nightscape, astro photography etc... I was thinking in upgrading to a full frame but, after seeing this video, i wouldn't mind buying the SL2, i would actually look forward to it. Great video!
Just got this camera a few days ago and loving it so far! I’m new to photography so this is my first DSLR. Thank you for this updated review, it’s very helpful! Keep up the great content :)
There are a lot of creators that are doing great work with a phone camera. I tell people that the best camera is the one you have with you. You can always look to upgrade later - but don't let it slow you down.
Been using the SL2 for a year and agree it’s an outstanding camera. You used the right word - value. You can’t beat the SL2 for the price. Thanks for the updated review.
Hey Sagi! I ended up getting the SL2 as a Christmas present for myself and I love it! It's a great entry level DSLR and it certainly has all I need as a nascent content creator. I'm very happy with it.
Truly love my SL2!! Using your phone as a remote is great. Already have a handful of lens. My 12 year old has no issue using my SL2. She has a great eye. We are both learning how everything works. That touchscreen is an absolute godsend. Scored mine ,brand new, for an amazing price off Ebay with a 20% discount coupon. It came with a kit lens. So my "value" is amazing. Your review was very well done and spot on. Love your channel.
That’s a sick deal!! Wow. Can’t pass on that. If you want even more info, here’s the detailed review: ruclips.net/video/WEQtH8hh8dM/видео.html Thanks again for the kind words.
In November 2017 I purchased this camera through Amazon as a package deal. I love the flexibility and control this camera offers. Your feedback offers all the points that makes this a perfect camera for those entering into the field of content creation.
I usually don't write much of comments, but I have to say this review is so far the best I've seen in a day's reviews searching for a beginner camera to buy. Thank you for the great work & and keep the good stuff going on!
I got this camera at the start of 2018 as a result of your amazing in depth review and haven't been disappointed, been a fan ever since. Awesome work 😊
Had to sell my gear in 2017, 450D, various lenses, extended grip, bag, the whole shebang. Am ordering this tomorrow, it comes with a nifty 50, 18/55 and the 70/300. Last two aren't great glass, but it's a start to get back into the game. Was considering the M50, but accessibility to a broad range of glass was an issue for me. The tech on this is still current, so it works for me.
My first camera was the Canon SL1. I sold it years ago after "moving up and moving on" to better cameras. Now my workhorse is a Canon 5Dmk3 with some L lenses, BUT I am getting an SL2 in 2019 because it is so light, and the autofocus is great for video! Pairing it with the 24mm f2.8 STM, 55-250 IS STM, and maybe a 10-18mm IS STM. Just because something is "beginner" doesn't mean it isn't capable of fantastic images and video. I don't think the camera world fully appreciates how much Canon hit the nail on the head with this camera. They actually listened to us, and I can't wait to start shooting more video when my SL2 arrives.
Nailed it! I've been telling people the same thing for a while now. (Same as you, I have the 5KMKIII - and the II) and the SL2 is underrated. I created this tutorial for the SL2 to try and help people: ruclips.net/video/RDs-Zzb0pmE/видео.html
Got the SL2 in November 2018...I just love it...So user friendly, the quality is amazing, and my photos just got better and better...definitly the best camera you can buy for the price of it!
My main camera is an 80D, but I bought a 2nd 200D a month back because they're great for travel, B-roll or alternate angles. Does it have as many features? No, but that is potentially a good thing, particularly when you're asking someone else to use it who isn't as familiar. I wish it would shoot in ALL-I rather than just in IPB, but other than that I can't fault it. I recently went on a trip to Vietnam and took a 200D with the EF-S 24mm pancake lens, and it was a great combination... super light and compact, but much better results than a "compact camera" would give me.
Good job! (I talk about it here: ruclips.net/video/z-x-d-K9Jfw/видео.html ) and for your next lens, it would depend on what you're shooting, but consider: ruclips.net/video/8EEKkrOuj-w/видео.html and also a full lens video: ruclips.net/video/UUPqjPs5Iw8/видео.html Hope these help.
Panasonic G7 is absolutely near it and also extremely capable... Tho if this camera was around in 2016 when I bought my G7, I would have heavily considered it.
@@CoalitionGaming G7 comes with 16 MP while sl2 having 24MP and also Sl2 is cheaper then G7.. so I think there's no comparison also.. In India Sl2 cost Rs 40k while G7 cost is Rs 47K ..
Thanks mate for the detail explanation. Now i decided to buy SL2 in this January.. You're worth to get 1 Million Subscribers. Keep reviewing in detail! I predict it gonna happen 😎
Great video ………….. I have just ordered the SL2 (200D in my case) based on what I have seen and for the type of content I am intending to use it for, there didn't appear to anything that could equal the SL2 at that price point. Keep making the videos, the two I have watched on the SL2 are superb.
I got my Canon SL2 six months after it came out. And I absolutely love it. My first DSLR was the Canon T6. But for $150.00 dollars more the upgrades were over the top. articulating & touch screen, Time laps video with built in internal valometer, 24 megapixels sensor, 5 fps shooting, dual pixel auto focus in live view, new diget 7 processor, 60 fps @ 1080 p in video mode, All of these were upgrades from my Canon T6 which was not a bad camera. But for $150.00 dollars more than paid for the T6 I have not seen a better deal, period.
@@TechGearTalk I have up graded to Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 also Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 & a sigma 30mm f/1.4 Love them all. Fits my needs. And my last lens is a Canon 50-250mm f/3.6 - 5.6
Got my SL2 in December and loving it. Plenty to learn as a newbie, but easy enough to use right out of the box. 3 Lenses: 18-55 STM Kit 75-300mm Yongnuo 50mm $39 Movo mini mic. And additional accessories. Got “15% off everything” deal on eBay, so the entire purchase was really reasonable. $650 👍🏼
This video has been really helpful for me. I’m about to buy a Canon SL2 and I’m a beginner so I wasn’t sure about what kind of camera to buy I was between Canon SL2 or M50. But after I look at this video, I’m for sure buying the Canon SL2. Thank you so much.
Glad the video was helpful. This is a great camera for beginners, and will allow you to grow. You can also see a comparison if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/JIb30UZKmkY/видео.html
You convinced me ordering the 200D (SL2) but now its the 250D in the market and I dont know. Should I spend 150$ more in the 250D only for the 4k video?
For a beginner which I am for photography and videography. I absolutely love the size and affordability during my vlogging adventures, it has really helped me grow and learn without compromise.
I just got mine and at Costco it comes with 3 lenses and a camera bag for just $599.99! I was debating on wether to get the sl2 or sl3, and I went with the sl2 right away. The sl2 is amazing!
Love the thoroughness of this video, it was super helpful. I'm definitely more convinced I want the SL2 now, and I loved seeing the sample videos, but I'm wondering if the value is still the best if I just want stills. Is there another canon around the same price range I should look at for just photos?
Got my SL2 just in time for the 4th of July and I love it!!! Thanks for the videos, they really helped me make my decision as I was stuck deciding between the T7 & SL2.
Got the SL2 as my first DSLR. Your video convinced me to buy that. Hope you'll reach 50000 subscribers soon. Keep up the good work and best of luck....
I got the 200D for Christmas this year. It is my first DSLR and I’m very happy with it! I took some portraits of my friends and they turned out really amazing. I’m still learning about photography (i started with film photography so i know how ISOs work; I just figured out how aperture and f-stops work, now I’m focusing on shutter speed) and this camera is really great for that. I really like it!
I got my SL2 in early 2018 and have absolutely loved it. I have the kit lens, 10-18mm STM lens, 55-250mm STM lens, and a nifty 50. I can't imagine needed more for a well rounded hobbyist kit.
I did watch this video just before I bought my SL2, now it's 6 months that I'm using it and I don't regret the choice. Of course it has limits, but for my humble opinion it's the best first camera to buy. In 6 months I bought double the price of the body in lenses, and the SL2 works perfectly with all of them.
I’m buying an sl2 this weekend, but I was still skeptical and after watching your video it definitely made me more confident on buying it!! Definitely subscribed
I'm really glad my video was helpful. Thanks so much for the sub!! Make sure you check out this tutorial when you get a chance: ruclips.net/video/RDs-Zzb0pmE/видео.html
I was between this and the lumix G7 a year ago. I went for the G7 and it's fantastic 12-60 kit lens and because of the dual control dials and all of its customisable buttons. I don't think there's a true winner between these two, it's a matter of what works best for you.
Dead on! I think too often people focus on "what's best" vs what works for how they use a camera and what would work best for them. You absolutely nailed it! Thank you for watching and for being part of the community! 🙏
I got this camera 2017 as a Christmas present and have been shooting with it since. I love it over my Sony A7 because of the functionality. I really enjoyed this video because you explained some features I had no clue the sl2 could do like timelapse! Looking forward to more content like this!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and input. Oh, you're gonna LOVE the timelapse feature. Let me know once you had a chance to play with it. Appreciate the support and having you be part of the community.
Thanks for this awesome and spot on review. I am glad I bought this camera last month and you have made me realize some features I never knew this camera had.
Just purchased a SL2 as my first DSLR camera, and my choice was made based on many of your YT videos and comparisons (very informative, detailed, and learned a lot!) Keep up the great work, and looking forward to new videos from you in the future!
I purchased the basic package deal with the 18-55 mm and 55-250 mm kits lenses to start.....have a bit more of a budget to see how it will go for future glass purchases.
Good day, I am almost convince to buy Canon 200D, but the new Canon SL3 is coming on the market on the end of this month, so should I wait or not for the coming review? Please advice - thank you in advance.
Hi, thank you for watching. I did an unboxing and initial discussion about it: ruclips.net/video/N-NcwX5IU1s/видео.html I will also have more content coming soon including a detailed review.
So glad I found this channel! I’m a travel photographer/blogger, currently using iPhone 8 plus and looking to upgrade to a good beginner camera for a reasonable price. My decision is between this, the M50, and the Sony a6000. I may just go with the SL 2! I also love the lens options because I do landscape and travel photography, but I want to get into portraits as well. Thanks for this awesome, detailed review!! Also, would you be able to add more sample photos in your videos? Maybe as a mini slideshow? That would truly be helpful!
Im a beginner in DSLR and needed a good camera on a tight budget.. When i got it it was still expensive for me 6 months back in July 2018.. Had to ask for money... But im happy with it.. 😊📷 im glad i finally got it after like waiting for a year... Feeling thankful 🙏✨
@@TechGearTalk yes still need to learn a lot about it mostly my friend taught me some stuffs about the manual setting and about the lenses and cousin also recently auggested me to get a lens filter.. I have to look tht up.. But yess hope i can get the full out of it 📷👍 and take care of it 😊✨
I already have the camera, but I love listening to people's opinions. You not only made me feel like I made the right choice for my first DSLR, but you did it so well. Crispy video, concise language, great b-roll... Real quality stuff here. Liked, Commented, Subscribed. Thanks for doing amazing work!
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video and that you are happy with your choice! Thank you for being part of the community 🙏
I love the SL2. I had an SL1 and wanted to upgrade the video and megapixels. I researched, shopped, watched videos & hunted. One day I came across the SL2. Once I read the specs IT was a done deal. One of the most critical aspects for me after focus and articulating screen was the size. Being able to take this camera with me everywhere with out being a huge inconvenience means that the camera is always with me, there are things I wish it had, but if its a wish list why not wish for a winning lottery ticket.
Great comment about the wish list. I think people overestimate how much weight they are willing to take with them. And most of the time the cameras stay at home. Couldn't agree more with you about size/weight.
Thank you very much for this video! I seriously was at a loss trying to decide which camera would best suit my needs, and this helped me soooo much! Thank you!!!
Amazing review thank you so much!! I was wondering how the battery life is, and if it can hold a battery adapter (idk if that’s the right name, but the battery thing that can have the camera plug straight into the wall to charge so recording long sit down videos are easier and the footage doesn’t have to be stopped and recharge or change the battery again to continue the video).
Hey. I’m currently torn between the SL2 and the 70D. Which do you think would be a better buy? I’m worried about the non weather proof body the SL2 has, however it has more megapixels and is lighter. Also heard that heavier body stabilizes image quality? But is 70D more dated? Wondering if you have some advice. I am looking for Both a great DSLR camera for photos but with decent filming qualities.
Weather resistance isn’t super important to me but it has to do with how you shoot. Sl2 is lighter and has a newer sensor and processor. I wouldn’t worry about stabilization, just use the right shutter speed. 70d has more focus points in the viewfinder. What’s more important to you.
Thank you for this review, very timely to my budget- friendly dslr hunting. If I use this mostly for video purposes, is it still a good one since it has no in body image stabilization? Thank you
Yes. Essentially no dslr or mirrorless camera has good enough in body image stabilization for me to feel comfortable using it handheld and getting very smooth footage (maybe one of the GH cameras because of the small sensor - but then autofocus is not as good).
I got the 200D in 2018 and I'm really pleased with it. I took it with me on holiday last month to Fuerteventura with the kit lens and the 55 to 200mm. Mainly used it for photos and it was the first time i properly used the camera, but I still got some good results. You have done a couple of really good reviews of the 200D which has helped me understand the camera better, so thanks for that. :-)
My girlfriend bought me this camera recently for my birthday because i enjoy phone photography and she wanted me to advance in the quality and abilities, well its absolutely great and i love it, really great way to learn everything about photography and make some beautiful shots on the way
Tech Gear Talk thanks! Currently just the ones that came with it, so the zoom and portrait lens, but as it takes all canon lenses ive also used my eos 1000f (N) sigma lens which gives pictures an interesting twist haha, but yeah thanks for being that cool creator who interacts with people!
Hi, i just have one question: I've had a nikon d3200 for 3 years and, as you can imagine, that's not a very good camera for videos. Now i'm deciding which camera to buy with this price (500-600). I have to decide between the canon 200d and the Panasonic g7. I'm really keen on videos (but i also like to make photos) and my main interests are: Good autofocus and good stabilization. Which one would you suggest me? (Of course if you want to give me some more options, i'd appreciate a lot!)
@@TechGearTalk thanks for the fast answer! I'm going to shoot mainly street videos, "portraits videos" (by this i mean videos with a lot of bokeh and a person, in focus, moving) and also some low light stuff (such as night videos or northern lights). Talking about photos, i like shooting landscape and portraits. Apart from interviews, i don't like to use a tripod when i'm outside so stabilization is really important to me and, if i'll buy a steadicam, i'll also need a very good autofocus. I think you know how bad and noisy is nikon autofocus so i just need a silent and not-slow one.
I would go with the 200d. You have amazing autofocus, tons of lenses. Forget image stabilization at this budget, you’ll want a gimbal/steadycam for the type of movement you’re describing. Hope this helps.
@@TechGearTalk thanks for the advice :) Then, which canon's lens with a good aperture (from 1.8 to 3) do you suggest to make blurry-background video? (If it's stabilized, it's even better)
At that low of a fixed aperture it’s going to get expensive if you want IS. I would start with the sigma art 18-35mm even if it has no IS. It is by far my favorite lens.
Yes Indeed SL2 is still a Great Camera 2019 and I believe it is more user-friendly for all the Beginner photographer/Videographer at this price range(India)👌
Completely agree with you. How much is it there with the 18-55mm stm IS?
@@TechGearTalk Canon M50 with kits lens 827 USD and SL2 with Kits lens 556 USD so big difference in price
Oh, definitely the SL2!
I wonder why? ;-)
I totally get that. The SL2 is a great choice for video.
Fantastic vid thanks for this. No annoying 2 minute intros, repeating the same things, constantly begging for something. Video looks great as well super clean.

You've made up my mind for me! I've been searching round forevermore to try and find the right upgrade from a bridge camera! I've found it in the SL2/200D. Give Macie a big hug from me! She is beautiful.
glad this video was helpful Ashley. Thanks for watching.
Macy gets all the hugs!!
I'm in 2019 and I already had the canon SL2 and still love it and have no reason to upgrade.
Couldn't agree more. It's a great camera. What lens/es are you using and what do you shoot?
Kunal Roy cn it shoot in low light
I sold my Canon 5d MK3 and with the money I got a 200D and I still had $1000 for shopping!!! I realized that for what I need, 200D was just perfect.
Nice move! Glad you realized what would work for you and ended up with more money!
@S Tra no, actually I used the money to book a holiday for the whole family. Thanks anyway. :P
I still have the 5D MK3 (and mk2) but it's probably time to get rid of them. I only use them for photography and rarely at that.
We are in total agreement. Did you keep all your lenses?
I got the SL2 for Christmas and I’m so happy with it. So light and portable. I can’t wait to start using it for RUclips!
Congrats Blair - glad yo love it!
It's going to be such a great tool for RUclips - what were you using before?
Hey, was just seeing your video and now, I'm even more happier that I bought the SL2 :D Here in Germany, it's called EOS 200D. For beginners (such I am), it is perfect to get close into the functions and effects on fotography.
Nice video! Learned about functions which I did not even expect with that camera, thanks :)
That’s awesome Kevin. Congrats! Let me know if you have any questions.
Got 200D this year. Best budget camera even this year. Enjoying every moment with this camera. Love your review man, keep helping me out on this camera.

I just brought the S200D a month ago. It's my first Dslr and I love it. Thanks for the vid, it helped with my decision and I'm very happy with it.
That's so awesome to hear Jonathan. Glad that you love your new camera. Let me know if you have any questions.
I see the SL2 as a little brother of 80D. There is such an option, like built in Timelaps; 60fps video possibility at 1080p; fast autofocus and face tracking. Almost same. I think, both of them are best cameras in DSLR section - SL2 for beginners & 80D for advanced users.
Anhel, that's a great way to put it! Thanks for joining the community. 🙏
What a beginner .. !! If you know how to make good video and photo content, the 80D and sL2 do not have the sls as the headphone input to check the audio while recording the video.
That is certainly 1 consideration when selecting a camera for video.
Exactly the review I needed. Thanks for this!
Glad it was helpful Alexa - you're very welcome!
Great review! Dude, you are good - Im def convinced now, Im ordering one tonight. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Ivan, glad it was helpful and appreciate you supporting the channel. If you have any questions, let me know.
The 4K on the SL3 is hampered by an additional crop factor and no dual pixel autofocus. I would not trade up for that reason.

That headphone jack is really nice to have for monitoring. That's a nice combination setup.
@@TechGearTalk Thank you!
You're very welcome.
Thank you for the simplified yet sophisticated intro to the Canon SL2! You kept my attention on the product specs ... it does not hurt that you look like Jeff Goldblum circa 1986! :) Wonderfully presented intel for a novice I-phone photographer.
Glad the video was interesting. Jeff Goldblum - that's a first, I like it. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Good work being green! This is such a nice camera fro the price! Check out this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/RDs-Zzb0pmE/видео.html
What lens do you recommend for shooting in the dark or night time/video photography?
The 50mm 1.8 is a good place to start. It's fast and inexpensive.
I bought my SL2 last year, and I Love it!! I bought it as a backup camera to my EOS REBEL XS Canon camera, and I Love everything about it!!📷😇🙏
Just picked up this camera last week on a great Boxing Day Sale. My decision was based on your videos regarding the camera. Thank you for the great content .Now to learn how to use it.

Yep me too - I'm using it to shoot video @ 60fps :)
Nice Peter. What subjects do you normally shoot?
@@TechGearTalk so far I love it like I said I really don't know how to use it yet. I picked up the camera for 560 Canadian and also pick up the rode micro.

what is the cheapest it would be in canadian dollars, i see on amazon.ca it cost 579$ cad with the lense
Thanks, good review...decided to buy the camera after watching your review.
Your'e very welcome Grayson. Thanks for the kind words and let me know how it works out for you! What lens/es are you getting?
For the sl2/200d I would recommend more than every other lens the Sigma 18-35 f1.8
Best lens ever...
That lens is by far the one I use most often with my cameras.
@@TechGearTalk its just one of the best for every aps-c Camera. So happy I found it and bought it
I totally agree. I use it on my cinema camera too.
The size doesn’t make it awkward?
This lens is expensive.😔
I bought my SL2 based on one of your earlier reviews and I am soooooo happy I did. I find it compact and light and easy to take with me anywhere. We've taken it snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, tubing, just to name a few. The photos I have taken are amazing IMO, so much better than my phone, and will only get better as I learn to use more settings and features. Such an amazing camera, I am sure I will love it for years to come. Thanks for the amazing info. Very clear, very concise, so appreciated.
So glad it has worked out for you. Love hat you’re getting great shots with it!!
I have the 7D II and the 200D (and many other cameras) and this is my #1 choice. It is fantastic and far superior to the 7D II if you don’t need high frame rate and weather sealing. I love the 200D and it deserves to be highlighted. Thank you for making this video.
I think it's super underrated.
Appreciate you watching and sharing your experience! What lenses are you using?
Tech Gear Talk canon lenses, 50mm f1.8, 100mm f2.8 macro, 17-55mm f2.8, 10-22mm f3.5-4.5, and my baby 70-200mm f2.8.
I basically use the 17-55 and the 70-200 90% of the time. But all the other lenses are good and have their uses ;)
That’s a sick setup man! I love the 100mm 2.8
Just ordered it while watching your video. Thanks :-)

Question.... SL2? or M50? i cant decide... any help with this?
Thanks for watching (and hopefully joining our community). Check out this video and let me know if it helps ruclips.net/video/JIb30UZKmkY/видео.html
Its kinda hard to fit in your hands even i felt it uncomfortable and i have tiny hands, the adapter for the m50 is fairly cheap at 60$
I am having the same problem and I am getting one of them in about 4 weeks.
Which one are you leaning towards?
Using $100 dollar phone and a DSLR is like a dream for a poor like me. Can't take my hobby to next level because of this. But this phone made me interested in photography.
Best thing to start with is what you have. A phone still allows you to develop some critical aspects of being a successful photographer.
Which one is good for vlogging & filmmaking 200d or 750d??????
200d has a newer processor, it's smaller and lighter, had built-in timelapse and has a better battery life.. That is what I would go with.

Yeah, EF-m lenses are very limited at this time. I hope this changes soon.
Thank you so much for sharing Francisco! I agree with you about the value!
Perfect example of a use case. The "right" tool isn't always the one with the "best" features.
Canon EOS 200d vs 77d vs lumix G7 which is best for Video and RUclips.
I'd go with the 200d. Less expensive than the 77d (you don't need the added AF points). and better AF than the G7
@@TechGearTalk
But sl2 is 50000 rupees on Indian price
77d is 56,000 rupees.
I don't understand. Does that mean it's cheaper?

I got my Canon SL2 six months after it came out. And I absolutely love it. My first DSLR was the Canon T6. But for $150.00 dollars more the upgrades were over the top. articulating & touch screen, Time laps video with built in internal valometer, 24 megapixels sensor, 5 fps shooting, dual pixel auto focus in live view, new diget 7 processor, 60 fps @ 1080 p in video mode, All of these were upgrades from my Canon T6 which was not a bad camera. Can't beat that for the price. That is a really nice setup!
I'm so glad you're happy with your decision Marco. Also, investing in lenses is the way to go, good job!

Thanks for this 😊😊😊 still learning more about the 200d and this just made me love her more
Check this SL2 tutorial for cinematic footage. It might be helpful. ruclips.net/video/RDs-Zzb0pmE/видео.html
Thank you for watching and for the kind feedback. You won't be disappointed with the SL2. I'll try to include more photos in the future.
That’s such an amazing attitude. Gratitude is the way to go.
Glad you’re happy with it!
@@TechGearTalk yes still need to learn a lot about it mostly my friend taught me some stuffs about the manual setting and about the lenses and cousin also recently auggested me to get a lens filter.. I have to look tht up.. But yess hope i can get the full out of it 📷👍 and take care of it 😊✨
Take your time. Learn. But most important shoot a lot! You can’t substitute experience. You can always delete the files. Shoot as much as possible.
@@TechGearTalk yes u are right 😊🙏 i will try my best to get a lot of experience... Thank you so much 👍💯✔✌😊
You're very welcome and good luck! Keep up the good work.
@@TechGearTalk you make it easy!!!!
Grateful for your time.
I’m so happy that this video was helpful Courtney! Let me know if you have any questions.
I just picked the SL2 up for my low budget music videos.
Thank you so much. Yes, you can get a coupler that plugs into the wall and will power it forever!
Tech Gear Talk thank you so much!!
Glad I could help! 👍
I'm so glad the videos are helpful Kevin. Do you have any other questions let me know.
My girlfriend bought me this camera recently for my birthday because i enjoy phone photography and she wanted me to advance in the quality and abilities, well its absolutely great and i love it, really great way to learn everything about photography and make some beautiful shots on the way
Congrats!! I agree with you 100%. What lens/es did you get?
Tech Gear Talk thanks! Currently just the ones that came with it, so the zoom and portrait lens, but as it takes all canon lenses ive also used my eos 1000f (N) sigma lens which gives pictures an interesting twist haha, but yeah thanks for being that cool creator who interacts with people!
Sounds good. I really enjoy getting to know the community.
What kind of videos are you going to shoot?
With this Video! I’m gonna continue planning to buy this at 2019, There’s no old camera for a beginner like me. Man! Thanks a lot for this Video
You're very welcome, I'm glad it was helpful
Hi I finally got a new lens SIGMA 18-300 3.5-6.3 CANON DC MACRO OS for my Canon SL2 what is your take on this one please?
