As I prepare to enter graduate school for piano performance, I consistently think back to the positivity and mindfulness your videos promote. The sophisticated subject, the passion that is barely masked by your quiet way of speaking, and the conscious portrayal of these fundamentally intimate subjects makes for a parasocial relationship that is truly valuable. i just wanna say, first i strongly relate to everything you say. As an amateur pianist, escaping from all the noise, appreciating the moments of quietness and calm is an essential part in nurturing my playing. I can literally feel the difference in the tip of my fingers as i play, let's say a Chopin Nocturne, after i have spent some time wandering in nature, some time taking a walk and sit in a park, in complete quietness, watching the full Moon glowing in the sky. I can feel more connected to the ethereal beauty of these immortal melodies, which are insperable from Nature itself, since they express same immortal beauty. Isn't it beautifully ironic, how appreciating the quietness lead us to produce a more beautiful sound ? How these moments of stilness helps us create an even more beautiful tone and melody ? As if the ability to embrace silence and creating beauty are two face of the same coin. Anyway, forgive me, i am rambling. Second, i want to say that your personna, and these few hidden gems that you make in here, are one of the most beautiful things for me. I feel so connected to the way you narrate things, the way you speak, the way you fil things, evertyhing. For example just the simple tiny detail of the beautiful Moon shot that appeared at the beginning of this video, the fact that you thought of looking up at that instant, being in awe watching her, as i often do, and take the few seconds to make a beautiful shot of it makes me so happy. It makes me realize that there are people out there with the same thought patterns, people who are able to just pause and appreciate the things that make this Life so precious. People who have a deep sense of appreciation for Art and its connection with. Anyways, imma stop here because i am talking way too much. I will come back to this video, always, especially since i am pretty much learning a piano piece all the time. I will think of your words as i will be practicing my Chopin Waltz in B Minor or his Op 37 No.1 Nocturne (goal for Fall season :D). How many young musicians see music theory as a perfunctory course and never actually use it? It's great to see harmonic analysis put into practice, as a means of understanding both the structure and the intent of a piece. I would be interested to hear how you would differentiate the concept of mental practice, from the popular notion of "fake it 'til you make it".

hii, practice only left hand for long. It will give you more contole. and on arpeggios - you can play it with different accents. you can make an accents on "weak beats" instead of downbeats while practicing. it will balance it out. (sorry for the late reply, I hope this helps)
you said in the video its important to study the environment the composer grew up in, does that mean you are at a composers childhood home or just some random country side?
Have you ever thought of composing a piece? I think that with your philosophical understanding of music, you'll be able to express your thoughts very well and unique.

I have been having somewhat a crisis, I will never give up but sometimes I want to. This made me feel more at peace and the clarity of my goals and ideas felt more like they are physically near. More importantly it doesnt matter if I ever get to that place. My will is to spend my life in search of that place because that makes me feel calm
I have been there too, and I believe even the greatest artists have also experienced it. Don't force yourself to be 1000% productive all the time; that will make you paranoid. Just allow yourself to rest or do the minimum for a while until you feel like you've recovered. Wish you all the best !
Nice video, some great points. One thing I think though is that one should be careful in reading too much into the historical or personal circumstances around a composer and a given work. It can be reductive. No one can know what anyone else's internal world really is. Composers may write something uplifting in a challenging period of their life or vice versa. I think many have this false notion that composers sit and pour their personal feelings into compositions, but this is not really how composition works. It might be an element but that is too simplistic a notion. These musical pieces are often thought about and engineered over a long period of time during which a composer may go through many ups and downs and different feelings and emotions. It is like a music teacher I knew once said: "I don't care whether or not they had a tooth ache when they composed it!."
Yes, that factor is also present, but to me, the epoch, time period, and surroundings still have an effect on a composer in some way. we might never fully understand their internal world, but we surely know that some events were so significant that they couldn't help but affect the composer in some way. For example, Chopin's exile or the period of Russian composers when they couldn't write whatever they wanted due to censorship, restrictions in soviet union. I think that is the most exciting part, that we have to explore these events and discern their effects through thoughtful analysis.
