Police stops around Istanbul is pretty common due to illegal immigrants and foreign drug smugglers from other countries unfortunately. As a local, I remember I've been stopped once every week on my way to work for almost a month. Don't take it personally. Turkey is one of the only countries where multiple cultures fit and tolerate each other.
    Great video!

Sly, I understand coming from the perspective of an African-American, the police stops are not only annoying, but also give you the impression that you're being racially discriminated or something nefarious like that. I assure you this isn't the case. I've been Turkey multiple times as a white Portuguese guy. I've also had numerous occasions were I've been stopped and my passport checked by police.
Although it seems stable and modern, Turkey sits in an extremely turbulent and chaotic region. They've had conflicts on their borders for years, and have had various terror groups (PKK, Asala*, ISIS) attacking Turkish civilians over many decades. The security situation is taken very seriously as a response to this. It's not because your black or anything like that.

I am glad you found this iconic Vefa place.... Boza is made from fermented millet and it tastes just like apple sauce.... very healthy. So its better to think of it as a desert..... But where on earth were your eyes? This is such a stunning place from the late 19th century docorated all over with the famous Iznik tiles. In the same street is a new place which sells Salep - a drink for cold weather. Tastes like vanilla pudding sauce but more delicious. It's made from an Orchid root.

However, the place can get very crowded, and you might have to wait in long queues. But trust me, it's worth it for the amazing food taste and great service. This is a well-known local spot, and not a tourist trap location, so you can expect an authentic experience. Enjoy Istanbul,

Man the Caddebostan coast is pretty nice too; you can get to it if you walk south from the Suadiye Mamarmay station to Çetin Emeç Blv.; just walk west along Çetin Emeç Blv. until you get to near the Fenerbahçe area; Çetin Emeç Blv. hugs the Marmara sea and has some nice views and usually lots of families hanging out by the water; to leave the area just walk north from the Fenerbahçe area to the Feneryolu Marmaray station. This Caddebostan coast can be tagged on to a trip to the Bagdat Caddesi shopping street.

Last comment here man: I think a couple more places you should check out are the neighborhood of Bebek (it's a luxurious waterfront neighborhood along the Bosphorus) and Zorlu Center mall.
You can get to Bebek from the Aşiyan F4 funicular station; the F4 funicular connects to the M6 metro at Boğaziçi Üniversitesi; the M6 metro connects to the M2 metro at Levent. From the Aşiyan F4 funicular station, just walk south down Cevdet Paşa Caddesi for like a mile; it's a beautiful neighborhood on the water.
The Zorlu center mall is a really nice mall; it's connected to a massive metro station complex (Gayrettepe metro station) that's quite the sight to behold; if you try to try to transfer from the M2 to the M11 metro, you'll probably go through 8 escalators or so. It's like a 1 km-long fully underground transfer that also connects to the metrobus and the Zorlu center mall. This station complex is probably as big as some of the larger ones in Seoul or Tokyo.

It is important for your safety that the police are asking for identity cards at every corner, stopping and checking everyone one by one. Turkey has received a lot of uncontrolled immigration from Arab countries in the last 5 years and the structure of the city has changed a lot. 5 years ago, everyone considered it a paradise, but now there is a migration towards Anatolia and the old Istanbul local people are leaving the city.

You're not alone Bro, I had to contact the U.S. embassy to get out of Turkey or however they spell it now. My issue wasn't the police, it was the bigots amongst the normal people. They served food to groups that arrived after me, served solo people the exact meal I ordered and they arrived after me. Over charged me for things. No greeting while entering stores; a White guy walks in and gets a lavish greeting, SMH. Basically treated me as if I didn't exist. And when they did acknowledge me it was often with a turned up nose. NEVER AGAIN Turkey. One store owner, asked what I do and how I make money, as I explained he stopped me cause his Ego just couldn't handle it.
My thing was count your blessing, He manages/owns a shop on the beach in Antalya/Kontalya & jealous of me. SMH
Some folks were cool, just far too many weren't. I think they teach their folk that they're better than all "Black" folk. And when that shit don't fit their reality, they snap. Sad Adults SMH And they stole my IPad when I arrived to Istanbul, at security. I didn't realize until I got to my hotel. For such a beautiful place, they have shitty attitudes. Don't visit. 22 countries and counting.

Even though i am Turkish, they even take my ID and examine it while walking outside in the evening. i wonder when you will understand that this has nothing to do with race?

I really don't like Turkey. Been three times, vibes there are just weird tbh. English levels very low, and general politeness isn't high
