Zuco 103 is a Dutch musical ensemble renowned for its vibrant blend of music heavily influenced by the rich musical traditions of Brazil. Originating as Rec.a in 1989, the group was formed by students at the Rotterdam Conservatory. The transition to the trio known as Zuco 103 saw members from the ensemble SfeQ-singer Lilian Vieira, keyboardist Stefan Schmid, and drummer Stefan Kruger-come together to delve into the rhythms and sounds of Vieira’s Brazilian heritage. Their exploration led to the release of their debut album in 2000, marking the beginning of a successful journey in the music scene. Their 2006 album, Whaa!, notably secured the #11 spot on the U.S. Billboard World Music charts, showcasing their global appeal and the international recognition of their unique sound that marries Brazilian musicality with Dutch musical innovation.
