Thank you Laura and thank you Tegan and the rest of the band (at that time) - for both the song and the video. (my favorite duet- ever) Got me through.a lot of heart ache many times over..many many times indeed. No, it's not what we meant to say. We don't really love each other. What happens when the summer's over? How long before distance becomes a chore? I'm approaching with great, great trepidation. I hope you'll understand… Anxiety, Anxiety you give me no mercy. Grind my teeth smooth and flat in my sleep. We took some pills to calm us down. Then we needed help to come back up. Just trying to stay in control of the situation.… ..they fall apart so easily.
I had a long distance relationship for a short time from end of 2021 till mid 2022. I live in Iowa, he lived in North Carolina.. he came to me twice and stayed a good length of time each visit... Come to find out we kinda needed to go different directions in life, and that was that .. anyway we always said this was our song. We felt every word said in this. It was a feeling I couldn't explain, when we would sit and listen to it .. we lost touch of each other. Then January 17th 2023. The world took him from me... He died, going to his mother's house that was on fire, and he was going in to rescue her. He suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He was on live support a few days, then was taken off and died on that cold January day. I Miss him everyday. And just wanted to share this story here, because this was one of our songs.. Miss you Cameron

I was one of the lucky few who were around when they were born. Gainesville days were the best when they played downtown....best years of my lifes ( Borat accent)
Christ this takes me back to my late childhood. 16-23 years where we would do anything just for the experience and always wanted to go as hard as possible even though we all knew those years friendships and hearts were dying one day at a time. So bittersweet and precious.
My best friend-no, he was my brother-died earlier this year. It came out of nowhere, but also it didn’t. The two of us made a habit of dancing right out there on the edge, looking for those limit experiences, those outpourings of emotion, those wild moments of ineffable joy on a late night with blurry eyes. Anyways. He really loved Against Me!. We used to sing at the top of our lungs. Thrash Unreal was probably our biggest go-to, alongside Cavalier Eternal. But somehow, whenever I put on this song, it cuts me harder than almost anything. It just reminds me overwhelmingly of being up late driving with Ralph with the windows down and the radio way too loud as we screamed together into the void.
Your brother was a bad ass person. I've had a few of my closest go that way and it kills me and really fucks me up. If you need to chat im alway here for you. Lemme know, hommie.

Against me has a few that can help. One of them is " Because of the shame " written about his best friend ( and probably lover) who left Gainesville cuz of an addiction problem, and move to Bradenton, only to overdose. And its because of the shame, he/she associates with vulnerability, shes numbing herself completely, can you hear me right now!?!...super powerful song.

This song rocks! I didn't even know Laura Jane Grace was a transgender, but came across Against Me! because of this collaboration with Tegan Quin and I'm glad I did. Good to hear of her transition and I hope she's happy.
yeah I’m super happy for her too! I just wanted to pitch in and let you know that “transgender” is an adjective and while I know you didn’t mean it when you use it as a noun it comes off a little bit as objectification towards trans people so I hope that helps :)

A.M. l this will never get old to me. back before they got Bigger e and my x wife followed them around and I'll tell you what, I still get goosebumps when I hear them. it broke ,y heart when Warren left, still not sure what exactly happened there, but he was my idol. every single second of every single show, he was grinning like a kid, so happy to be playing the music. and the energy of the whole band... pumped through the roof and you never slept after a show. I got lucky the first time I saw them, it was at the Otto bar in Baltimore md and I had gone to see the bouncing souls. there were 2 or 3 other bands playing, but one cancelled. they said they got this random band to fill in and here comes this dude in a blonde wig. as soon as I heard the first choords, I was hooked on against me. honestly, I enjoyed them more than the souls, and for me that says alot, cause I had been a fan boy of the souls who would sing along forever. hell they are the reason I made an almost 300 mile drive to see a band in a random little hole in the ghetto in Baltimore. ok I'll stop reliving memories now. lol. tom gabel/ laura Jane grace, I fuckin love you!!!?

Damn, this is such a great song... We need more real musicians to get big. I'm sick of hearing talentless but famous "musicians"... Great work doing it your way not the way others want you to.
You're joking, right? This isn't a song. Like everything else in the lat 20 years, it's one long, droning verse...or chorus...or bridge...I can't tell what it is. Oh..garbage. That's it.
I've never been a T&S fan but I love everything AM! This song was released waaaay before LJG came out to the public, and sometimes I wonder if she sought out Tegan to be featured because of Tegan and Sara's role in LGBTQ music. In my head they became close friends and Tegan was her confidant back in '06 :p
I could tell by looking at the thumbnail for this that Tegan Quin was in the video. *Swoons* That hair, that face, that voice, Tegan you take my breath away.
A longtime friend that showed me the love of music along with a handful of others passed away a few months ago. We weren't very close over 30 years but I never forgot him and felt like he was a distant relative that came and went throughout my life when I felt lost.I got to know him on a personal level when caring for him after a diabetic coma and needed someone there to help with not feeling abandon and help with his kids a little. I do wish we could have known each other better years ago but I'm glad for the time i did have with him as a friend and will feel better knowing that we prayed a little together. Rock on friend~ Cindi
Ever since I have stumbled across Against Me I have to admit Laura Jane Grace floored me. Like her I went through coming out as Transgender. I had to listen to more of the music before and stumbled across this video. I have been listening to this song so many times that in my head driving with my mother on my long vacation I could NOT get this song out of my head. Listening to it with my ear bugs in attached to the MacBook laptop it felt this song was a private concert. Music is powerful. I never really looked into punk rock because I was not one to crowd surf. Maybe the geeky associated because I was thin and frail growing up led to the part that I might crack easily. Now I really realize I missed the best parts of punk and forever will continue my quest for punk music and listen with anticipation of finding excellent songs. Thank you Against Me. Rock on.
Thank you Laura and thank you Tegan and the rest of the band (at that time) - for both the song and the video. (my favorite duet- ever)

Hope you worked through it all
thats awsome they wrote you back, and thank you so much for serving our country. much respect.
Tegan and Laura’s voices sound so cool together, they need to collaborate more
yyyyyyyyyeeeeeesssss

@@soflaav8r Referring to someone who has transitioned by the name they went by before their transition is frowned upon. It's called deadnaming, and it's the incorrect way to refer to someone, even if you are referring to something to happened before they came out or transitioned. Essentially, Laura was not publicly "out" when this song was released, but she WAS Laura.
Tegan has such a beautiful voice.
One of the first Against Me! songs i ever heard. a few years later and i now have them all (and i mean all) on my ipod and listen to them for hours every day. even flew from nothern canada to see them open for the cult in L.A. When i first found out about Laura i couldnt sleep for days. they went from my favourite band to my heros. not transgender or even gay myself but Laura inspires me to just be who i am and the rest of the band inspire me to stick by my friends no matter what.
who is laura?
Craig this will always be one of my favorites xoxo
I love this band so much, Warren is one of the best drummers to ever live!!
Herzblut, Emotionen, sehr schön!!
I can't even tell you how much I'd love to see a remake of this music video today.
+Skylar Lynn whew, I hadn't thought about this. :D
OMG YESSSSSSS
yes it would be cool to hear, Lauren would sing both sides.
OMG!!!! YESSS!!!! How amazing would that be?!!
a remake? stop making me feel old kiddo
I never knew who against me even was. someone gave me a album New Wave and i was hooked i pretty much like and respect what the band is saying. As a whole against me is a excellent band i give thx to the one who discovered them for me
I've had anxiety nearly all my life, was listening to this with my mate, who hasn't got a care in the world and it got to the anxiety anxiety bit and he started singing, 'saturday! saturday!' . Made me laugh though, he has no idea.
Ignorance really is bliss, isn't it? That misinterpretation is pretty hilarious, though.
My favorite part of this video is the message it portrays. No, it's not what we meant. We don't really love each other. You don't have to fight to stay in control of the situation.
This song have the revelation of some changes in my life. Never again will be the same but will be for the best.
No, it's not what we meant to say.
We don't really love each other.
What happens when the summer's over?
How long before distance becomes a chore?
I'm approaching with great, great trepidation.
I hope you'll understand.
Before you speak think about what you're trying to say.
Who else is there to blame for miscommunication?
You're getting caught up in the excitement.
You making promises you can't keep.
You need to leave all your options open.
Too much momentum.
This room feels like it's going to explode.
Too many angles.
Too many factors to cover.
Waiting for signal.
You're searching for network.
You have to fight to stay in control of the situation.
Anxiety, Anxiety you give me no mercy.
Grind my teeth smooth and flat in my sleep.
We took some pills to calm us down.
Then we needed help to come back up.
Just trying to stay in control of the situation.
Too much momentum.
This room feels like it's going to explode.
Too many angles.
Too many factors to cover.
Waiting for signal.

You have to fight to stay in control of the situation.
They fall apart so easily.

Trygve Kjellsen I love how I don’t need this ❤️
😆😁gracias
vote this man up
this song means allot for me, im in a long distance relationship and sometimes I have to fight to stay in control of the situation.
The interplay in their vocals is incredible ... The 3 times they sing "Too Much Momentum.." (around 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30) is pop perfection ... Thanks for this song
Also cool af title that is never mentioned in the song
"Anxiety, anxiety, you give me no mercy
Grind my teeth smooth and flat in my sleep..."
If only your generation was more like you my good lass.
Some faith in humanity restored
brings back some crazy memories of the one I loved the most :'(
Teagan is such an elegant touch to his tough gut wrenching vocals - both strong in emotions in their own right, great counter parts in the song... waste of a super sweet dude with a badass voice
This song rocks! I didn't even know Laura Jane Grace was a transgender, but came across Against Me! because of this collaboration with Tegan Quin and I'm glad I did.
Good to hear of her transition and I hope she's happy.
So refreshing to finally see a positive comment about Laura being transgender!
Transgender, really?
Small correction. You should say "transgender person" not just "a transgender". That'd be like calling someone "a black".
yeah I’m super happy for her too! I just wanted to pitch in and let you know that “transgender” is an adjective and while I know you didn’t mean it when you use it as a noun it comes off a little bit as objectification towards trans people so I hope that helps :)
lol you can't be serious, you really thought LJG was a biologically born woman?
You're so clever darling. I knew you'd find me here. I think about you all the time. I'll never forget that beach in jamaica. Let's go back soon
My God it's been so long. This was our favorite- my cousin who felt like he should've been my brother instead had got diagnosed with cancer. We grew apart, he became an alcoholic and Im addicted to fentynal.. There used to be three of us, up until my first love - my brother's best friend killed himself.
This song saved us three. We were 18 and living life to the fullest. Im 26 now, Mason if youre out there,
, i love and miss you. .
discovering against me in 2024 and found this gem. wow. some great songs and more... hope you can come to australia in the next few years... my mates and me will buy at least 10 tickets in sydney.. please try
i love how you can tell that laura wrote this even when someone else is singing.
that’s how you know you’ve made it as a songwriter.
That is Laura singing. Back when she was Tom
A trans persons dream comment to recieve
I still love this song after all these years...
A.M. l this will never get old to me. back before they got Bigger e and my x wife followed them around and I'll tell you what, I still get goosebumps when I hear them. it broke ,y heart when Warren left, still not sure what exactly happened there, but he was my idol. every single second of every single show, he was grinning like a kid, so happy to be playing the music. and the energy of the whole band... pumped through the roof and you never slept after a show. I got lucky the first time I saw them, it was at the Otto bar in
Baltimore md and I had gone to see the bouncing souls. there were 2 or 3 other bands playing, but one cancelled. they said they got this random band to fill in and here comes this dude in a blonde wig. as soon as I heard the first choords, I was hooked on against me. honestly, I enjoyed them more than the souls, and for me that says alot, cause I had been a fan boy of the souls who would sing along forever. hell they are the reason I made an almost 300 mile drive to see a band in a random little hole in the ghetto in Baltimore. ok I'll stop reliving memories now. lol. tom gabel/ laura Jane grace, I fuckin love you!!!?
Chris Archeval I clicked read more...then saw how much more there was,....an instantly stop caring
saw this footage in about a million tegan and sara fan vids and have been looking for it for like a year. finally found it. great song great hot girl...life is great

Damn, this is such a great song... We need more real musicians to get big. I'm sick of hearing talentless but famous "musicians"... Great work doing it your way not the way others want you to.
this song is sooooo good, i love it!!!
You all killed it!
Thank you for the GREAT song!
God I love how every time when Laura sings how her face looks like it has a little burst of excitement every once and a while
Thank you for this song.....from a married, scared, and lonley man
I've been reading Laura's autobiography and the lyrics to this song hoo boy...
I watched a 13 minute ad for Ron Paul before I watched this video. I could have skipped it at any point, but it was strangely compelling...
This means more than anyone can understand
absolutely beautiful whoever says they dont like this song has no opinion on music
The fact that this song wasn't a massive hit is another example of what's going on in the generic product that music has become
Facts 💯
You're joking, right? This isn't a song. Like everything else in the lat 20 years, it's one long, droning verse...or chorus...or bridge...I can't tell what it is. Oh..garbage. That's it.

@@normanplombe2889 I'm sure you have impeccable taste in music. With your all knowing and pretensions view on music, what is a "real song"?

Almost got me teared up.
That's great of them and you. How awesome that some people are actually good.
I've never been a T&S fan but I love everything AM! This song was released waaaay before LJG came out to the public, and sometimes I wonder if she sought out Tegan to be featured because of Tegan and Sara's role in LGBTQ music. In my head they became close friends and Tegan was her confidant back in '06 :p
interesting..
same here. they did some stuff with alkaline trio too that was pretty good.
Bean I had the same thought!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one! :)
Bean
Possibly, they are both lesbians (I think), as well...:)
you have to fight to stay in control of the situation... this song seriously just got me out a slump
I swear the more I listen to this song, the more i FUCKING LOVE IT!!!
Against Me is aways bringing the hits! Enjoy! 🌝
I could tell by looking at the thumbnail for this that Tegan Quin was in the video. *Swoons* That hair, that face, that voice, Tegan you take my breath away.
Really we need a new collab between them
A longtime friend that showed me the love of music along with a handful of others passed away a few months ago.
Just the passion and emotion in each of their songs. Be what/who you are, but be proud and enjoy it.
his deep scratchy voice, and her clean pretty voice go so well together.. omg.
i just wish you could hear her more when they sing together
Laura's smile is so nice! You can really tell she loves her music!
Rock on.
This song never gets old
Tom is so fucking good here
obsessed with this song...completely, and its so tru
Tom Gabel said in an interview he didn't care how much money they made all he wanted was his songs to be heard and appreciated
They're such amazing musicians and I love it
