I appreciate Anika raising the secular values of India in front of the professor. Secularism doesn't come just by putting word of secular in the constitution. You need a majority or vast population of a nation who believe in secularism, which India has for thousands of years. India is the only place in the world where jews have not been persecuted in their entire 2000 years of history. Of course, religious extremism must be condemned. I also don't believe in that religious nonsense ( as myself, not a religious person). But that doesn't mean India's large population is not secular. India is secular because of its majority, which the professor would never understand. In 2003, Javed Akhtar asked the same question to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and I really liked his answer. Vajpayee said India is not secular because of BJP or RSS or Congress, or any other political party. India is secular because of its majority population secular values.

I have to say I’m not a great fan of his soft diplomacy and he just couldn’t help bringing up the communal angle. I hope everyone watches this interview it really reveals Dr Ahmed’s true colour’s. And I felt he was trying to intimidate Anika with his intellectual prowess, which Anika was rebutting fervently and every time she did he became very defensive. No doubt this interview would have created some uncertainty in her mind. And to say that all Muslims would be seen as invaders is simply not true 30:30. And I’m speaking as someone who does not belong to the Hindu or Christian community. Well done again Anika this was an extremely difficult interview to conduct!

I know various news media platforms providing so many authors for promotion against pm modi & BJP. So if, according to him, if the current establishment doesn't provide freedom, then how come these journalists and authors are openly promoting antiestablishment independent research work.

A very brave interview by Anika - it takes heart to argue with a celebrated author on partition. It is disappointing that such a learned Professor has only repeated the standard accusation by Pakistanis that "India mein muslims par julm hota hai" - blaming it on RSS/BJP. I could not understand what he meant by "rise of Hinduism" ? Right from Syed Ahmed through Jinnah till date, muslim leaders have been raising bogey of "Hindu majoritarianism" and "Islam in danger". In pre-independence era, Jinnah even used to call Congress a Brahmin-Baniya party. He raised the fear of Hindu majority in muslims' mind and created Pakistan. So raising of such fear is nothing new - only the target has shifted from Congress to BJP - i.e. whosoever is in power is to be blamed. Possibly muslims, like followers of all other religions in India, would feel safer and better off living with Hindus in India than living with muslims in most muslim countries. One can check out how many Indian muslims feel persecuted in India and have applied to migrate to Pakistan, and how many Pak muslims have applied for migration to India.

Well done Anika your questions were of a very probing nature. And certainly very different to some of the shows that I have watched Prof Ahmed appear in.
I have to say I’m not a great fan of his soft diplomacy and he just couldn’t help bringing up the communal angle.
I hope everyone watches this interview it really reveals Dr Ahmed’s true colour’s.
And I felt he was trying to intimidate Anika with his intellectual prowess, which Anika was rebutting fervently and every time she did he became very defensive.
No doubt this interview would have created some uncertainty in her mind. And to say that all Muslims would be seen as invaders is simply not true 30:30. And I’m speaking as someone who does not belong to the Hindu or Christian community.

A very brave interview by Anika - it takes heart to argue with a celebrated author on partition. It is disappointing that such a learned Professor has only repeated the standard accusation by Pakistanis that "India mein muslims par julm hota hai" - blaming it on RSS/BJP. I could not understand what he meant by "rise of Hinduism" ? Right from Syed Ahmed through Jinnah till date, muslim leaders have been raising bogey of "Hindu majoritarianism" and "Islam in danger". In pre-independence era, Jinnah even used to call Congress a Brahmin-Baniya party. He raised the fear of Hindu majority in muslims' mind and created Pakistan. So raising of such fear is nothing new - only the target has shifted from Congress to BJP - i.e. whosoever is in power is to be blamed. Possibly muslims, like followers of all other religions in India, would feel safer and better off living with Hindus in India than living with muslims in most muslim countries. One can check out how many Indian muslims feel persecuted in India and have applied to migrate to Pakistan, and how many Pak muslims have applied for migration to India.

For me he is totally biased with his view points on right wing community, Hindu Majorityism because he has his own pakistani conditioning irrespective of him being living in Europe. He is completely unaware of Sanatana Dharma. If an ignorant person opens his mouth, he removes all his doubt. Whatever factual facts you present to him if it goes against his perspective or against his propagana he will simply reject it.
