I would have cleaned out the old fuel shutoff and kept it as the old metal ones are no longer being made. Otherwise typical of these older machines the new ones aren't nearly as well made.
Yea, it was rusty rough.... I think it was used in an area that was salted too. The engine looked to have low hours. After going through it, it ran and worked great.

I'm going to restore my old Ariens 824LE in the spring. Did you just use a spray can of black paint for the motor housing?
Yes, it was a rattle can... I think Simi gloss black.
Where did you buy the carburetor parts from?
I got it at my local mower shop I think.... sometimes I order a dozen kits at a time online, as there way cheaper that way.
