Beautiful job. Wish I had the tools and the knowledge you have. Most beautiful tortilla press I’ve seen. I like making tortillas and a press like this one would look beautiful in my kitchen. Thanks for sharing

Wow. Very nice. I finished my press yesterday (I still need to apply oil) and I think it looks very cool, I did a good job (for a rookie). Anyway, this is one of the most beautiful, best looking, and well-worked presses I've seen in my life. And take my word for it, as a guy growing up eating tortillas I've seen quite a lot of presses. I always like the wooden ones more than the metal ones. Yep, Bob Keller already mentioned some things that are cool and useful. However, I would like to stress out again... BEAUTIFUL PRESS!
Wow me too,, I’m honored for sure!! Thanks so much for the kind words. I hope you enjoyed Making your press and would love to see it if you want to share it..
Thank you very much! Yes, Im no pro at making videos for sure 😂. I used screws and glue for the lever base then covered them with plugs. I used a dowel with no glue and sanded to fit to fasten the handle. Wanted to be able to remove and replace in case the lever gave out.
Ok you asked for it! First I would like to say this is a very nice looking project and I will be making a tortilla press along these lines, good job. Now for the rest, you don’t need to show all the sanding. You didn’t show how to attach the press handle, I know, I know I should be able to figure this out.. easy stuff but not everybody will. Also you might want to ad feet to raise the body so the press won’t sit in water (moisture) while using. Also do a finale demo. Ok that was enough, this is exactly what I was looking for, very nice.
Hi Bob, thanks for the critique! Yeah I know Im lacking on some information. I'm still getting my feet wet with the filming part. One of the many little details I left out was that after the mineral oil dries, I do put some clear rubber feet on them. Please let me know if I can help or answer any questions that I didn't address in the video.
Along those lines, how was the handle connected? Also, it seemed that you put the glue on the surface of the wood instead of in between. Do I have that right? What was the reason for this? Sorry for all the newbie questions
That is beautiful you think it would be okay if I did one like that. I realize it's your plans that's why I thought I would ask first. I just think it's beautiful great job great video
Hi John, thank you so much for the compliment, and yes by all means please make one like mine. I hope you’ll share photo or video when your done. Best of luck and holler if you have questions.
Totally agree, definitely is a stonger joint. I had already done that and wanted to try this out. It worked great and smashed up some perfect tortillas.
You’re in luck, when I made my “200 subscriber video give away (how to do it)” , I made a tortilla at the end. If you wanna fast forward to it, go to the 20:00 mark. I didn’t make a real dough mix but it worked for the demo. Let me know what you think. It was my first one ever.
Thank you! I don't have any plans to sell, I just keep it in my head. Im happy to help you though however I can. I'm also willing to draw a set if you'd like to purchase it, or we can have a conversation so I can explain how I did it.
Thanks, I really just winged the project. I did measure a tortilla for thickness and diameter, but everything else was on the fly. I’m going to do another tortilla press video and shows and give more information. I haven’t made many videos so still learning.
I use a 1/2” dowel and give it a snug fit, but can still be pushed out if needed. For the hole, I slip the handle in between the uprights, clamp it and drill it. I kind of set it up like its going to be, and make sure it looks right, then go for it. Hope that helps

As for the video - The only thing I'd be more careful of is getting yourself in between the camera and the work. Yes, I know it's a little difficult - keep up the good work!
Thanks for the helpful critique Brian! So far nobody has reported any damage. This is the one that I still think about though. I ran the glue joints 90 degrees to what I normally do. So far so good. You know the saying that “the glue joint is stronger than the wood” (as long as the joint is good).
@@jeffportercreations8234 ya, I think I'll build it running the other way. I've had those kind of joints fail occasionally, leaving a shred of wood that broke off where the glue was in fact stronger. :)
I originally thought the same thing too, but now I’ve gone down a massive tortilla-themed rabbit hole, and the one thing that keeps coming up is how little pressure it actually takes to flatten the tortilla. I think I always got thrown because of all the cast iron ones (because why would they make them so heavy duty if it isn’t needed), but in the bon appetit video where Brad goes to a place that make their own all day every day, you can see how little pressure is needed (and how easy it is to use too much pressure). Now I’m thinking I can go back to my plans for a jointed wooden one, and the fear of destroying my creation can be the thing that stops me from pressing too much :P
I’d love to show you, but I sold that press. Since you said that, it got me thinking about making another one and showing how to use it. As soon as I finish up a few projects in front of me, I’ll make that video. Thanks for bringing that up!

I have to ask what the measurement of the tortilla was in order to get the proper spacing between the boards.
I used a micrometer to measure a corn tortilla and it was almost 1/8” thick. So that’s what I went with.
