This helped get my water heater going again! It took a few time pressing the spark button while holding down the pilot knob, but it eventually worked. Thank you again!!
I watched a few of these and you are the most articulate person I've seen and made the best video.
Agreed!
Agreed! Solved my problem
I agree, I love how he articulates, makes me feel confident to try it myself
Your demo is much more helpful than their instructions. I thank God for your video.
Thanks for detailed description - showing the pilot light turning off - and pilot light turning back on. That’s really helpful. It’s the details that are super important - and now I have hot water agin.
I agree with the others, I looked to other videos and you make it so simple that I was able to relight my water heater Thanks 🙏🏽
Omg I was so scared to light my water heater. There is no striker. I found this video after I got it lit, but I'm still so glad I watched it. I appreciate you explaining everything in great detail. Thank you!!!
I now understand what someone feels like who has never held a gun. I was always afraid to even look at a water heater wrong for fear of it exploding, much less, playing with the controls like this man is doing.
The warning images on them always scared me as a kid so even to this day i'm afraid of them lol
Me too.... my bf is like your acting like a child 😢 but I'm scared 😳
Had relight mines just now. Still think it's gonna blow up
Thanks so much for the instructional video! Watched several videos on this and they said how to relight but didn't explain each piece and what they were for! Easy to understand. Thanks again!
Also. I could not bend down to check the window if pilot light was lit - so I used my iPhone camera to view what was going on in that window - and that was really helpful. I got that trick from your video.
Greatest instructional video ever. Thank you!!!!!
Even 5 years after you made this video this video has helped me very much appreciated and I hope your business and your knowledge continue to help people thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the comment!
I've fixed my water heater by watching your video, thanks!

Hmmm, condolences….
Excellent Video. Simply explained. This helped me greatly to relight my water heater. Thanks so much.
Thank you for your video, it really helped me a lot. I had no water running in my house and the water heater was off. As soon as I did exactly what you described in the video I had water again. Thank you very much
Thanks! Your advice worked. You saved my night.
Really great clip, so thank you so much for powering. To the point, professional and thorough. Thanks! 🙏🏻
Great video! Very helpful! Thanks for sharing
appreciated the word of advice, it worked perfectly, thx keep it up
Very helpful.
Thank you. It worked the first time
If you couldn't find the pilot flame, then try again by looking the left side and right side of the water heater though that little glass door. My pilot flame is so small and located further on the right side and I missed it on 3 times by looking on the left side all the time. I was upset because my water heater is just only 2 years old; so after watching this video and read some comments and one comment emphasized about that, then I went back to do the same procedure and Bingo! I found the pilot flame which is located on the right side. Man, my water heater is alright and thanks for this video. I don't want to spend $900 again.
This was what happened to me. I turned off all the lights and the pilot light was actually much lower than I was looking. I could see a small blue light / spark and eventually it re lit after initially thinking it wasn't working.
Same thing! Your comment made me try a different angle and I turned off the lights. Thank you.
Hey, I had forgotten how to do this. Your video really helped us! Thank you!
VERY EDUCATIVE.THANK YOU REGARDS
Thank you so much! This video really helped me today!
You are the best man
Thank you your trick worked for me
Thank you so much! Now I know about the "vacation" setting, too.
Thanks so much, super helpful! I got my water heater working!
This happened to me today. The pilot went out. The lighting instructions are on the tank so I followed that to relight the pilot. This video helped me a lot also.
Great video mines working now thank you
I watched a couple of these videos and yours was the easiest an most detailed of all of them. Thanks, very helpful.
You're welcome! Glad the video helped.
Thank you . Glad I found this video! Saved me lots of money.
I appreciate your video! I am heading home to light my pilot light as it went out this morning. Wish me luck! Ken
Good luck! Let me know if there's any issues, maybe I could help
Thank you!! IT worked for me!!
Very helpful because I was very clueless 🙏🏾 thank you
Thank you. Well done video explaining everything. I did what you instructed and I have Hot water again. 👍👍👍Thank you so much. I appreciate it. 😊
You're welcome! Glad to hear you were able to get it up and running again!
Thanks for this video. I wasnt sure how many strikes was okay. And the other comments about looking more to the right saved me. I turned off the light and used a flashlight so I could see it better and it lit right away!
You're welcome! Glad to hear you were able to figure it out 👍
Thank you very much. Best how to video
Thanks alot.
Watching your instruction gave me more confidence now to how do it myself re-lighting the Pilot Lamp.
My Water Heater is now Back to Normal
Glad to hear that, you're welcome!
Thanks for the tips!
a thank to you too....its probably a point to mention that you have to really look into the view opening to see the pilot light. because with the bradford white water heater i thought it wasnt lit for couple of tries because was cautious and looked planly into to sight. then i put an eye to the viewer and there was it. the small blue flame a little above.. .thx for your video
Glad to hear you were able to get it lit! You're right, I probably should have mentioned that sometimes you have to look in the sight glass from different angles to see the pilot light. Thank you for pointing that out
Clear easy to follow instructions. Thank you, I was able to reignite my water heater after watching your video.

I'm happy to hear it worked for you! You're welcome!
Thank you!!!!!
Super
I turned knob first off, then to pilot, pressed ignite but nothing happened in that lower window. My knob can’t be pressed down so maybe I’m missing a step, but I saw the window and took off that triangular cover easily. Yes GREAT VIDEO. Guess I’m almost there.
You have to turn little knobs back to pilot first. THEN push it all the way down and hold it. After pilot lights you still have to hold down button for 1 minute to warm up the thermocouple. If released too soon, gas cuts off.
THEN turn little knob to on.
LASTLY, turn big thermostat knob so the 2 arrows line up. You will hear a whoosh and the main burner ring will light up through window. Close cover but don't pinch wires or copper thermocouple wire.
Thank you, I'm going to try it. Looks pretty straightforward. It worked but there's a bit of a gassy smell around the water heater, is that normal
Were you holding the pilot button for a long time? Its fine if the smell was temporary but if you check again later and it still smells like gas, I would call out your gas company. They can do a gas leak search. (Usually this is a free service)
Thanks! Very informative video. The pilot light goes out when letting go of the button after 30 seconds. The black intake screen is missing but I used a hand vac to try and clean that area. Tried the pilot light again. Guess we have to call for a repairman. At least now I know what else might be the problem. Should we buy a new water heater anyway since this one is maybe 15 years old?
Today a repairman diagnosed ($85) the thermalcouple/burner assembly and said it would cost $600 to replace the part! I'm glad I watched your video yesterday - I'm going to attempt it myself. I looked up the cost of a burner assembly $115.99 free shipping. Hope we ordered the correct part for AO Smith XVR40-100 serial #F05A082417.
Update - We installed the replacement burner assembly but couldn't get the pilot light lit. We called a plumber who briefly unscrewed the cap at the bottom of the gas pipe, then the pilot light came on in a few clicks. Best part of all he didn't want any money because he said he was nearby away and it took no time at. We gave him cash anyway. The first plumber was obnoxious when I questioned his charging $600, he then walked out without collecting the $85 fee.
I aint gonna Lie.... Im a Skirdy Cat , when it comes to Messing with Gas or Electric, yea I said it, LOL.... my water heater as been out for 2 days ,smh. Until I watched this video, i had enough Courage to go an try to light it (yes I did jump when the flame lit up, so lol)
BUT NOW , I HAVE HOT WATER !!!!! Thx The Lawd For U and Ur Help #Salute
Thank you very much. This helped me and saved me $75 dollars for a service call!
every time i watch these hot water heaters vids, they are 3, 4 more yrs old , we need a 2019 video guys. for old tanks my is 9 years okd now gas
Awesome video....If I had watched this sooner, I would have saved $250...
This was perfect! Saved me. Didn’t know to hold the pilot light button down after it lit. Appreciate you.
Thanks bud I was about to take mine out and explode it lol
General question, how come my knob wont go to the OFF position? It won't turn either way.
can you mention how you set up the gas line to do this please? did you turn it off then on? how long was it off if so? Does it need to be on since there might be residual gas - is there residual gas? etc. And it seems some videos joke about the risks - how serious are the risks in relighting? is this for non pros to do? Seems there is missing information for some novices.
I notice you left your temperature setting to boil. Why not vacation setting? Good video tho. Thank you
If you've replaced the thermocouple but it still wont stay lit, coukd the orifice tube be clogged?
Is the thermocouple enveloped by the flame? (it should be) If it is not, then possibly the orifice is plugged. If the new thermocouple is in the flame yet once you let go of the knob, the pilot light keeps going out, then likely your gas valve/control is bad. Have you tried holding down the pilot knob for at least a minute or two after you light it?
@@WordofAdviceTV yes thermocouple is enveloped by the flame. Have held the pilot button down for 5 minutes but it goes out. I think garabadge got caught in the gas line into the gas control valve and is the issue.
Who should I call if I have troubleshooter but still cant light it
