Hey sir, my question is about checking the rear brakes for irregular wear, broken shoes, or damaged or bluing drums. How could I check this as a driver? Thanks
Great video. This will help me a lot. Thank you for posting. You mentioned that a driver damaged the tail shaft by using the hand brake while moving. Can you use the hand brake for stopping in an emergency situation? Will this cause damage to the transmission?
It is always a good idea to inspect all components involved when using the e brake for an emergency stop. The truck was leaking fluid out of the back of the transmission, so we replaced the seal. Another couple of weeks passed and it started leaking again. We took the truck to our local transmission shop. They informed us that it was common for the tail shaft of the trans to get damaged from engaging the brake while moving. Glad this video helped!
I’m dismantling the handbrake so I can rebuild it. I have removed the nuts that fasten the driveshaft yoke to the drum but I am unable to separate the yoke from the drum. I have soaked it with pb blaster and have tried to separate it with pry bars and mallets with no luck.I was wondering if you can provide contact information so I can talk to you about it.
I have already separated the driveshaft and it is hanging on a block. I have plenty of room to separate the yoke and drum but it appears it is frozen at the mating surface. I spoke with a local mechanic and they said they sometimes have to use an air hammer and chisel. I’m hesitant to do this for fear of damaging the transmission. A puller of some kind would be ideal but I can’t find a type specific puller and all of the universal pullers I have seen have the extraction screw in the center where as in this part the screws would need to be offset against the drum.@@Nprdoctor
Thanks for the video. Any Isuzu NPR type content is gold!
Great video, just saved me a lot of time looking under the truck

Put a strap under the carrier bearing. Take the 4 bolts out and drop it down some. It should give you room to help separate the 2.
