- Gladiator (Latin pronunciation: [glaːdiatọɾ]) is a 2000 historical epic film directed by Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Ralf Möller, Oliver Reed, Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, John Shrapnel and Richard Harris. Crowe portrays the loyal Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius, who is betrayed when the Emperor's ambitious son, Commodus, murders his father and seizes the throne. Reduced to slavery, Maximus rises through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena to avenge the murder of his family and his Emperor.
Released in the United States on May 5, 2000, Gladiator was a box office success, receiving positive reviews, and was credited with briefly reviving the historical epic. The film was nominated for and won multiple awards, particularly five Academy Awards in the 73rd Academy Awards including Best Picture. Although there have been talks of both a prequel and sequel, as of 2012, no production has begun.
Gladiator is the original soundtrack of the 2000 film of the same name. The original score and songs were composed by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard and was released in 2000, entitled Gladiator: Music From the Motion Picture. The Lyndhurst Orchestra performing the score was conducted by Gavin Greenaway.
The album won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and was also nominated for the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Score ("Anthony Asquith Award for Film Music").
The Oscar-nominated score was composed by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard, and conducted by Gavin Greenaway. Lisa Gerrard's vocals are similar to her own work on The Insider score.[42] The music for many of the battle scenes has been noted as similar to Gustav Holst's "Mars: The Bringer of War", and in June 2006, the Holst Foundation sued Hans Zimmer for allegedly copying the late Gustav Holst's work.[43][44] Another close musical resemblance occurs in the scene of Commodus's triumphal entry into Rome, accompanied by music clearly evocative of two sections-the Prelude to Das Rheingold and Siegfried's Funeral March from Götterdämmerung-from Wagner's Ring of the Nibelungs. The "German" war chant in the opening scene was borrowed from the 1964 film Zulu, one of Ridley Scott's favorite movies. On February 27, 2001, nearly a year after the first soundtrack's release, Decca produced Gladiator: More Music From the Motion Picture. Then, on September 5, 2005, Decca produced Gladiator: Special Anniversary Edition, a two-CD pack containing both the above mentioned releases. Some of the music from the film was featured in the NFL playoffs in January 2003 before commercial breaks and before and after half-time.[45] In 2003, Luciano Pavarotti released a recording of himself singing a song from the film and said he regretted turning down an offer to perform on the soundtrack.[46] The Soundtrack is one of the best selling film scores of all time, and also among the most popular.

Ahhaa Epic
The most EPIC comment in the world. 🤩👍
What I love about this battle scene is that there is no exaggeration at all. The colour, atmosphere, the hungry soldiers with all those dirt over their body but with hope on their general really delivers the realistic moments of what could have happened on that day.
Yeah realism Like how everyone in the middle ages IS a dirty peasant sorry but No ancient armies werent dirty Just Like medieval ones werent. A Major Part still was looking presentable and Centurions Made damn Sure that weapons are sharpened armors polished and Standards washed to Show they full color
@laisphinto6372 em just wanna remind u that it's not their first battle on that day. Even soldiers in modern world get dirty in a middle of a war.
Fuck it i can't resist! Let's play Rome Total War !!!!!!
+Alexandre Drouin you write !!!
kkkkkkkkkk kkkk....let's play!!!!😂😂😂
Best of the Total War games IMO....especially with the Realism Mod!
i find roma surrectum and europa barbarorum better, but there are so many great mods for RTW :).
Try either Realism total war VII mod, Rome History Total War mod, Extended Culture Total War mod and of course the best of the best the De Bello Mundi 1.2 Total War mod.

Best troll ever
5:52 this moment gives me chills every time I listen to it
5:52 - Pirates of The Mediterranean
Mare nostrum
Gladiator my best movie
How it begins is like "Alright men, One more battle and we can go home!" ( < - 1:00 )
At (1:00 - 1:26 ) is like "They say no." and the battle is inevitable.
Then it's like "Prepare for Battle" at (1:26 - 3:52 ).
From (3:52 - 5:24 ) is like "Release Hell."
Followed by "Alright men, forward!" at (5:25 - 5:52 )
Probably the best part is "Stay with me!" at (5:53 - 6:19 )
which is followed by "The Battle is on!" at (6:20 - 8:40 )
How it ends is like "Roma Victor!!", with many losses (8:41 - 9:50 )
+Warren Lloyd I like can't like understand like your like accent
White Knight Of the Internet
lol XD True, there's, like, a lot of 'like's!
5:50 gives me chills every time.
5:52...Thankyou Emperor for getting us ready to make way. We would have had a hard time of it by ourselves.
I really love Hans Zimmer's music!
best film ever, and music too!!!
This is by far one of the best scores ever!
Whenever I read "...by far one of the best...", it doesn't make sense to me.
How can something/someone be proclaimed to be far away and/or well above (what's behind and/or below, I guess) and then being immediately proclaimed as one of the best.
Can someone please help me out with my english here? This is a sincere and legitimate question.
I read those kind of phrases very often. I would like to get to bottom of it (I would actually be relieved to learn something I didn't know about the english language).
@@kextrz It is called para verbal.. It is what separates humans from machines.....
@@tweecqproductions8276 What you're referring to is body language, basically. I don't think it applies to written language.
The best analogy I can think of in order to understand those phrases is this one:
Let say it's a 800 m track and field race.
A group of runners detach itself significantly from the rest of the pack.
Anyone belonging to the leading group at this moment is by far one of the best/has one of the best chance to get to the podium.
All of this implies a major gap between the leading group and the rest of the field.
@@kextrz Dude chill.. jusy enjoy the movie or unplug yourself from the fucking Matrix
I loved the way the dog was running with the gladiator, panting and ready to also do battle
ROOOOMAA VICTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR

correctly it is "Roma Victrix"
no, Rome is Eternal
ROMA VINCI
JamesLR Victrix, because ROMA is in female gender.
The gladiator's soundtrack is another masterpiece by Hans Zimmer, but what I don't absolutely like is the way the tracks have been divided in the release of the CD. It is really a shame for example that the beginning of this song had not to be split.
my favourite gladiator sound track is ....Earth!gorgeous love it
THIS HAS TO BE BY FAR THE BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER MANDE.... Just awesome
Such a masterpiece, great soundtrack!
Still Listening this soundtrack in 2016!!!!
THE Roman army ,,,first in history to be a professional paid army,
+Guaxinim de Metranca which they copy from persia
+albert speer Thats not true. Alexander the Great's army was a professional paid army; he paid his army in wages. And his army even had it's own medals of valor and such.
+Ante Ćubelić which we aint discuss about. first professional army and what not
+albert speer And one of the most badass armies. When you can strike fear into a man's soul while wearing a skirt, then you have truly become a force to be reckoned with.
bit unrelated but thought id mention it anyway. If you would like to learn more about rome look up the podcast history of rome by Mike Duncan. Imo its simply the best historical podcast out there.
"At my signal, unleash hell!" Maximus Decimus Meridius.
5:30 - 5:46 epic build up.
Hans Zimmer gets lion's credit but Lisa Gerrard was there too. Best track from Hans. Was listening on mp3 just now but came back again to YT.
8:50 The best moment
that movie is realy epic just like the roman movies of the 60s like spartacus or ben hur. great acting also by russel crow.
RUN to this music. Word of warning. DO NOT DRIVE TO IT. Great music!
For me this film was that led to Russell Crowe to fame and still has not been surpassed by another film as I refer to films that have been made about the history of rome

He is from the Iberian peninsula, close to the Roman city of Merida (Augusta Emerita) which was the capital of the province of Lusitania. That is the reason of his third surname.

It sounds like Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack.
You mean POTC sounds like this :) Yeah he just tweaked it lol
lauren maclachlan Hans Zimmer is one of the compositors of Pirates of the Caribbean xD
For my understanding Zimmer is the one who originally composed POTC pieces, but he was busy working on another movie so he gave Badelt the permission to put them under his own name. So Zimmer really is the original and main composer of Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack.

Oskaras Min The Gladiator of the Caribbean
came here to say that.... Gladiator came out first though #first
The first 20 seconds are pretty amazing as well. haha can just imagine maximas on a horse in front of 10 000 legionaries marching to rome
I wish we could have seen Maximus return to his army.
+Xilo Channel I know right! I'd love to see how Maximus would rule the Roman Empire!
+Nantia Rebel He wouldn't. He stated that the senate would had been in charge
+Ante Ćubelić Sad thing about the whole "restore the Roman Republic with the Senate" ruling would not have worked. Not in favor of dictatorships and all, but the Senate, stuffed full of the rich magnates, had essentially driven Rome to its knees by the time of Marius and eventually Julius Caesar. Don't mistake my meaning, but the "Senate" was not a democratic institution...it preyed upon the poor and had so many idiosyncratic rules and limitations it simply was not capable of ruling the Empire which had grown so large. The idea of changing Consuls every year (and having two of them...either of whom could and often did overrule one another from day to day!) simply was too inefficient to run something as vast as the Empire. The Empire stretched from Britain to Egypt and ruled over countless peoples and cultures. It might have worked better under an elective committee system, but the old Republican form simply would not have worked. It SOUNDS good because we tend to judge the meaning of the words "Senate" and "Republic" by modern standards. They weren't what we think they are.
many wish they couldve returned as well but didnt.
Ani za hovno😀, ten film je dobrej, protože umřela hlavní postava
5:53 i just love that track, it almost feels like something straight out of LOTR, it got that "heroic" feel to it
Sounds more like pirates of the Caribbean, almost exact
Sounds like that and the Rock , zimmer has worked with the same group of people for 30 years.
@@bartman1067 i was just gonna say lmao
Leading up to it has large chunks of Holst's "Mars Bringer of War" and that theme is carried throughout the movie. But at your timestamp is straight up Pirates of the Caribbean.
This whole soundtrack is basically those two songs blended together
@@TheJurzerker Which isn’t a bad thing. Both are great in their own right, but together…

I totally agree, Gladiator was one of the greatest movies that has ever come out of Hollywood, it's the kind that attracts all kinds of tastes, from adventure to drama to epic .. to those who have a keen nose for marvelous performances, it's just magnificent.
One of the most perfect movies ever deserves one of the most perfect sond track ever... as it is...
+Bruno Lopes
I agree .. I think the movie was just "perfect" ... everything was just as good as it can get.
+Bruno Lopes I agree. I will point out though, that a movie without a good soundtrack can't be a good movie ;)
If only the battle scenes in the beginning had been authentic....
I beg to differ with you. Have you ever watched MoPic 82?
Sorry that was Mopic 84, just checked it on you tube. still out there, check it out! I played it for another buddy and he thought it was actual footage for a long while and he should know, he spent a tour with the 25th Infantry!
I know Gladiator preceded Pirates of the Caribbean by three years, but hearing that familiar melodic structure at 5:53 is both hilarious and _fascinating._
Gladiator created in 2000 year, but Pirate of Caribbean sea published in 2003, It seems to be like 1 song because this music writed Hans Zimmer
After all these years not a single film has been changed my mind about being the best this is still the best movie ever in my opinion
Always the best and I cant see it being surpassed. The story of good over evil portrayed at its best
Epic movie...
Seems like you haven't live enough...all of you. It's not the best but is in the top ten.
Have you ever watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Just asking.
