  • Often patients present with abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding during the first trimester of pregnancy. This can be a risky situation for the patient since ectopic pregnancy is still on of the leading causes of death during the first trimester of pregnancy. In this case we review a patient who presented with vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain while pregnant in the first trimester.
We see in this study that the patient had an intrauterine pregnancy (IUP) at 6 weeks 1 day with a fetal heart rate (FHR) of 121 with subchorionic hemorrhage. This patient only required a transabdominal ultrasound since the findings could be docuemented with out a transvaginal ultrasound.
