My son was never diagnosed. I took my son to a psychologist (who happen to be white) and that "doctor" said I didn't discipline my son enough. My son is very defensive about being labeled with any type of "disability". Because of this his issue has never been addressed. He is finding adulthood extremely hard. I fight very hard to keep him encouraged. Very hard.

As a mom of a little 9 year old son who lives with Autism & ADHD, your speech gives me so much hope. Our main challenge right now is how to make friends and maintain a friendship. He starts off a friendship with "masking," then he shifts and is okay when he plays with someone doing what interest him, but he is not willing to play and/or do what others want to do. We are trying to teach him how to be considerate and compassionate. I appreciate you sharing your compassion for others! I hope he gets it with time and maturity.
