The process of firing... In most U.S. states, your employment is "employment at will", meaning you can be fired for any reason, at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all. You just can't be fired or demoted because of things like race, disability, religion, age, and a few other "protected categories". So if you come into work one day wearing a green shirt, and your supervisor doesn't like green, you can be fired. Perfectly legal. --Lawyer here
Most states are “at-will employment” which means you can be fired for any or no reason. The company would still have to pay workers comp for 2 weeks in some cases.

"Right to work" laws prevent unions from requiring membership even in union shops. You're talking about at-will employment, which allows an employer to fire an employee without giving a reason. Most states are at-will.
@@Jeff_Lichtman Correct. "Right to work" is about the "right to work" without joining the union in a "union shop" (a company with an existing union contract). It's about the employer's ability to fire "at will" only tangentially in that most union contracts bar firing somebody for no reason.
It's hard for me to imagine a Hooters that isn't a "toxic" environment. It's like being the manager of a strip club. The whole point of the business is exploitation of women.

In almost all of the US, you can be fired for a job for any or no reason with some egregious exceptions like your gender, race, etc. But all in all, firing people is not very complicated. That said, you can also try to sue anyone for anything and so a fired employee could try to sue a former employer, but unless they have a good case it will go nowhere.
But it's not too hard to claim you were fired for one of the banned reasons (race, religion, national origin and in some states age, sexual orientation and so on). Also, the Americans with Disabilities Act protects a lot of employees and often a fired employee can claim coverage. If you fire an aggressive employee, I'd be prepared to get sued (but I bet usually they are just seeking a settlement, though, and don't actually want to go to court).

I've watched Undercover Boss a few times. I'm not saying these firings are fake, but the show comes across as phony. In every single episode, the boss encounters an employee who has some sort of special need, and the show ends with the boss giving the employee something like a car, or payment for medical care, or something like that. Also, there's always some employee who knows more about the business than the boss, whom the boss gives a promotion and a raise. What are the odds of this happening every single time? Apart from the question of whether they're sackable offenses, what are the legal issues around putting the firing on TV? Do the employees have to sign releases before filming? What would the consequences be of refusing to sign a release?
Yeah , the show follows a formula, as they all do. None of these shows are real. Anyway, wouldn't all these businesses be all the wiser by now to these obviously contrived premises?
I love the story about the bar because it's 100% true. Here in America at least, there's a big push, especially after 2020, for service industry workers and their rights and respect and so on, which I 100% agree with...but then I get treated so poorly so often by these people that it drives me bonkers. And people hide behind the idea that it's a minimum wage job therefore minimum effort which is just such a sad way to look at things. Just do your job and try to do it right, that's all. Looking at me like I ruined your day for existing isn't making me want to come back or tip you better or even engage with you. Is it so hard to just be a decent human being? I literally wiped butt for the better part of a decade as part of my job and I still could muster a smile.
Big facts. Worst thing is seeing news media telling people not to order certain items from fast food cause it strains the workers. I'm not joking. There's articles like that lol.
As someone who's wiped butts and also worked at McDonald's for a summer I'd take the butts over McDonald's any day. People who've never done it really can't understand. It's not an easy job. It's fast pace and high pressure, managers and customers are disrespectful and demeaning. And then you get paid crap for it. I'll never get upset that a fast food worker isn't smiling again. At the end of the day I came for the food not for someone to kiss my butt
@@lolaBee9 I've done both too, and arguably worse jobs. Still stand by my comment. Look, I'm not here to play the victim Olympics, some people thrive in these environments and others don't, that's life. My point is none of that is an excuse to be bad at your job or to treat anyone poorly. Kinda defeats the purpose customer service industry if you don't know how to manage your emotions...and if that's the case you find employment elsewhere. If that's an excuse then nothing would get done in any jobs.
@@Zombie_Trooper I didn't think smiling needs to be a part of the job. I got my food that's all that matters. I can guarantee you'll have a much better experience if you treated the workers like people and not your slaves
@@lolaBee9 You lost all credibility the second you made baseless assumptions. I thought we were having a decent a discourse but you went blue and just deflated your whole stance. Nice work. Apart from the question of whether they're sackable offenses, what are the legal issues around putting the firing on TV? Do the employees have to sign releases before filming? What would the consequences be of refusing to sign a release?
Yeah , the show follows a formula, as they all do. None of these shows are real. Anyway, wouldn't all these businesses be all the wiser by now to these obviously contrived premises?
what the hell it is to have It with the hooters dress don't need to mention that that's irrelevant
she didnt see all the cameras. Lol what a stupid show
I love the story about the bar because it's 100% true.
They don't pay enough for people to take the level of disrespect fast food workers deal with and have to be overly pleasant.
I can already tell what kind of customer you are from your comments. I can guarantee you'll have a much better experience if you treated the workers like people and not your slaves
@@lolaBee9 You lost all credibility the second you made baseless assumptions. I thought we were having a decent a discourse but you went blue and just deflated your whole stance. Nice work.
And since you're too dense to understand my point it's not about smiling, it's about being emotionally cognizant enough to know how to be a decent human being even if the job is hard. How you're treated effects your buying habits, that's basic business.
See ya around, kiddo, talk to me when you've grown u a bit.
So you shouldn't be respectful to your servers????
muted...
BS show. TOTALLY SCRIPTED. Just look at the multiple camera angles. No credibility here at all.
I find it hard to believe that Hooters one is real.
