Hi. Thank you so much for uploading this. I was reading through the comments on this video and one mentioned the series mysterious circumstances. I think I’ve heard more plays in this series but I’m not sure if the rest of the series is on this channel.
Priestley has a reputation for being rather stodgy and schoolmasterish ( albeit kind hearted beneath the gruffness ) but he proved otherwise here. This was a sparkling comedy full of brilliant little character cameos related to the seedy glamour of provincial theatre allied to a deep understanding of human nature. His style seems to have fallen out of favour in the last 20 years but his integrity shines more brightly as our Culture becomes increasingly shallow . Shaw was wittier of course and Rattigan and Coward more stylish but is he really any worse than Alan Ayckbourn ??....or Katie Hims....??!?!?!
