- Two RCAF CF-18 Hornets departing Vancouver Int'l Airport bound for Cold Lake doing cross country training flights. What a rush to see some burner at an International airport with some pretty sick manoeuvres. Enjoy the video!!

After all these years, the CF- 18/ 188 is still an awesome sight. Thanks for the video.👍🇨🇦
💯 Glad you enjoyed!
Love the sites of Warbirds in the area.......far too infrequent!! Thanks for capturing these oldies but goodies!!
Gotta love it when the climb is unrestricted!
100%
F18s and canadian pilots hard to beat!
The Hornet is an amazing looking fighter, you feel warfare in its design and its just an warrior. And very great video quality! Big like, Greetings from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia :D
Agreed. Glad you enjoyed! Cheers.
That sound, like the air is being torn, it's one of the best sounds in the world and nothing like it
Definitely
Stun ning quality in low light conditions, amazing video mate!
Thank you my friend
@@eyetrapper You are welcome!
Unbelievable the quality of your camera and your skill to get this amazing quality wow.
Thank you! Great to hear.
Nothing like some gorgeous afterburners at sunset! Awesome video!
Agreed. Glad you enjoyed!
Last week they (CF-188) seem to be departing YVR around 13:00 to 14:30 for a couple of days in a row. I was just enjoying their glorious soundtrack while most around me were NOT amused and complained that they were too loud to which I replied, that's the cost of freedom. No argument ensued afterwards.
The cost of freedom eh?
What a load.
@@BrimHawk More like the sound of poorly funded freedom.
we could have had F35's but blackface cancelled them and bought these thrift store Aussy f18's
@@benson556 these 2 jets are not former aussie jets.
Makes you feel very proud of the Royal Canadian Air Force
In 1984 the sight of these made me feel proud of the RCAF, nowadays it just reminds me how obsolete these planes are.
@@squangan The fleet can now do things that the Hornets of the early 80's could only dream of.
@@hoghogwild It doesn’t matter how much lipstick is applied to them, they are an ancient 40 year old legacy aircraft which needed to be in museums a decade ago.
@@squangan Lipstick is a surface treatment, far from the updates the fleet has seen over the years, let alone the current HEP1 and HEP 2 (2022-23)updates. The average airframe age in the USAF is 29 years.
@@hoghogwild I understand what you are saying, but the fact is these legacy hornets are long past their ‘best before’.dates. Considering their age at anywhere from 35-42 years, in comparison fighter planes of that age when these F-18’s first entered service in Canada were the Spitfire and Mustang. I guess we can both agree that Canada has certainly got its moneys worth out of these.
That was nicely done. A hard vertical climb and roll was awesome. Lol.
A sight to remember
I love how the Coyote got his own slice of the video.
Of course haha. Love including wildlife
Pilot took full advantage of the unrestricted flight profile.
Spectacular! Just spectacular video of the CF-18!👍😁
Thank you! ☺️
Damn, guys!
This was awesome!
Showing the public they're the Canadian military with guts, not some donut patrol.
Taxpayers' money well-spent!!
😁👌
This looks like uncut footage out of a Hollywood film. Amazing.
First F18 showing off to the commercial pilot’s.😂👍🏽
That's gotta feel good..... jealous
Definitely a rush
The way that CF-18 took off was SOOOO accelerating. Wish I was there in person to hear that engine sound!
"climb speed unrestricted" Pilot: "vertical it is!"
Awesome video mate. Those CF-18 Hornet are impressive.
Thank you! They sure are.
Those CF-18's were awesome!! What a treat to see those!! Thanks again for the beautiful filming!! 💖✈✈💖 Oh, yeah, and I see Wyle E Coyote is still searching for the Roadrunner!! LOL!! 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you! They definitely were. Haha back at it again!
In TV show Jetstream about F-18 training, they showed they bring new cadets to vancouver intl to help them familiarize with large airport operations and airspace navigation. If the pilot is a new trainee cadet, must have had terrific fun with a full afterburner takeoff! 👍 Tower wouldnt mind either..😁 F-18s are the corvette of the skies!
It was definitely an experience to see them here for everyone around. Haha yes, Cougar 11 definitely had some fun.
In the tv series Jetstream, they took the students to LAX for that 'big airport' experience, not Vancouver...........
They are no longer cadets by the time they are training on the Hornet, but fully qualified pilots and at least a Lieutenant.
Gorgeous capture!!
🐺 it's back 👏👏👏
That was awesome! Thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed
I was fueling my car at Shell(garden city road,Richmond), GE F404 engine is way too loud, luckily I saw the afterburn, pure power!
Definitely turned a lot of heads
One helluva camera.....very sharp.
😁👌
The 2-seater CF-188s are from 410 training squadron in Cold Lake, the operational squadrons have the single seaters. The best part of watching the CF-188 startup is when they engage the computer to check the flight controls and everything goes nuts. And because the CF-188s relatively loud, compared to airliners, they pay a $10,000 noise abatement fee per aircraft and that's why they are based in the middle of nowhere, CFB Cold Lake, Alberta and CFB Bagotville, Quebec. That was one of the reasons they retired the CC-137 Boeing 707, it could set off car alarms on takeoff.
Noise abatement doesn’t apply to CDN military aircraft in Canada.
@@johnlatulippe5939 In Canada individual cities can pass noise bylaws, back when the RCAF flew the CC-137, Winnipeg was the only city that was built up around the airport, and they fined vthe RCAF for excess noise, just like they did Winnipeg Garrison for vehicle movements, that's one of the reasons the Army moved to CFB Shilo and the fact the lease on the property was up, just like London, Ontario. And noise from explosive training was one of the reasoins CFB Chilliwack in Vedder Crossing, B.C. closed too.
@@Chuck59ish This is completely false.
Canadian cities can only issue fines over matters that are provincial constitutional jurisdiction (with extremely limited exceptions), and aviation solidly falls under Canadian Federal jurisdiction via Transport Canada. Transport Canada regulates aircraft noise by administering the Canadian Aviation Regulations, and Section 102 of the CARs expressly excludes CF aircraft.
That bird was marked as 416 Lynx squadron
@@scottmccambley764 416 Squadron was disbanded in 2006, What you saw was a Cougar, 410 Training Squadron is Cougar Squadron.
I've watched a lot of UR climb vids and this hands down is one of the best, that was awesome!
😁👌
@@eyetrapper your pick up on the AC B777 was especially on the money!
Little show for the folks on the ground.. Thank you Cougar OneOne and TwoFour..
Cheers from the Pacific West Coast of Canada.
Cheers!
Stunning captures, mate!

CF- 18 is still amazing aircraft. Great video.
Definitely! Thank you.
That’s what you call. Gettin outa town.
Who doesn't love 60fps!!
Really beautiful filming!

Great video watching from Toronto Canada.
Many thanks!
Awesome buddy 😍
Thanks bud
I was building my rc aircraft in my front yard and got lucky to see that first CF-188 with afterburner, amazing and beautiful she was!
Epic! Getting inspired to build even more haha.

What's a cf188?
@@ghoster3078 the rcaf version for the f18, the cf188 is also known as a cf18
Ok thank you I did not know that.
Magnificent capturing🤩
After burners😍😍
God speed.
WOW! The only thing going through my head was "POWERRRRRRR!"
😁👌
Always top notch video , I'm still watching from IAD Va.
Thank you!
Fabulous video! Very nice indeed
Many thanks!
That was awesome the hornet tested your camera skills 💪👍🌞✈️
Definitely
great quality, thanks
Thank you!
Had a single 2 seater take off here at YEG on the 12th. Same loadout => 2x bags + CAP9M + TCTS
I wonder if that was one of these jets or not. It's not too often we get them at the international considering CFB Cold Lake is so close, but we are sort of on the way between CFB Cold Lake and YVR.
Either way, that was some STUNNING videography! I LOVE the unrestricted climb!
Glad you enjoyed! It could have been. Part of their cross country training is to operate out of an International Airport.
Nice. They gave you a show.
The first CF-18 was heavy on the afterburners and showing off, the second one was saving tax dollars 😆
an armed hornet, very cool
Wow, super take - off from the F 18. 😲👍😊🛫✈️
Definitely!
Great challenge with that light but as usual you did very well... Great stuff... 🇳🇿
Great to hear! 😁👌
WOW cool shots!!!!
Thank you!
Awesome video man .. Really interesting to watch your videos
Thank you my friend
I live at the end of the South-facing runways the CF-18’s take off of in Comox. We are very used to the sound, not only of the military machines, but also the commercial planes…everything to small Saabs to WestJet’s big commercial planes as well. But I grew up in the Comox Valley, moving there at age 2, in 1953. As a result we, collectively - including all who live in The Valley - are used to everything from the sound of Lancaster bombers to the latest military and commercial aircraft, as the sounds the planes make is heard ‘round the entire valley as the sound bounces off the local mountains. And every year we watch the Sno-Birds acrobatic ensemble, as well as any number of single aircraft, usually air dominance types, rehearsing their upcoming airshow routines…all taking off in our back yards…probably only 300-400 metres from our home…and liking the fact that we have that access and have that view.
Can’t wait to hear the new F-35’s, when they’re finally cleared for use…
I can imagine what it's like living near Comox. Been up there not to long ago to catch some Spring Training action but unfortunately the wind cancelled the snows and the 2022 Demo Jet broke down. Beautiful place up there. All the best.
@@eyetrapper The snow pack (I assume you’re referring to ski conditions) has been astonishingly good. And you’re right…the Comox Valley is close to paradise.
Top notch filming on this one!
Thanks bud!
Awesome video of that climb out. Sexy birds that I could watch all day.
Thank you! Definitely.
Great capture !! 😍👍👍

Totally cool CF18 footage. Thanks to our RCAF men and women and to Eye Trapper YoutTube.
😁🤙
Never saw jets from the Canadian air force before. Great.
I hope that that little coyote there managed it to escape so they didn't have to kill him. Great filming like always. Really good quality.....
PS Was that coyote a fox in the end ?
They are amazing little jets. Oh yeah, YVR tends to keep them around for free bird and rabbit control. Glad you enjoyed!
Excellent! Wonder if that coyote is related to the one here at TPA 👍
Thank you! I wouldn't be surprised 😄
Awesome! ♥️

Glad you enjoyed the video!
Love seeing these old birds. Hoping you get to capture new F35's or whichever plane Canada ends up getting for the fleet some time in future.
F35s would be cool to see but the Hornet is still top for me.
@@eyetrapper Sadly the RCAF will (from what I recall) have their CF-18s retired by 2025. I don’t recall the exact retirement year, but I know the replacement is the F-35.
@@sevenapertures i thought we were getting Gripens?
Unfortunately Canada decided to go with the F-35s
@@eyetrapper Unfortunately?? I think you mean fortunately especially compared to the alternative the Gripen
Just casually rolling down YVR with 2 sidewinders. 👍
Thankfully they're only training ones.
Cf 18 is still a sexy plane
Very
it's too bad that we can't get take offs like this on Air Canada or Westjet it would liven things up a little. lol
Nothing compared to two F 14 s with full afterburner at night on the nose of a carrier RIP FID!
goooooooooooooooood!!!!
Gee. Canada is back.
Makes you wonder why Canada doesn’t buy the super hornet if it’s good enough for the US Navy it’s good enough for the Canadian Air Force
Too old already.
I'm surprised they found an F-18 that is air worthy!!!!!!!!............................... It must be the only one!!!!!!!
Haha
@@eyetrapper - I worked for a military contractor for 8 years and Canada's new vehicle bid process was so bad that a lot of the other contractors ignored any bids out of Canada and still do today. I have never seen or worked with a more useless bunch of senior soldiers and LIEBERAL politicians in all my life. If it wasn''t so sad it'd be funny.
What’s with the new cargo jet livery? Great video as always
Amazing Catch of the coyote. Wonder where he is flying to?
It's an ex Panorama 767 converted for Cargojet. Haha probably somewhere more warm. 😂
@@eyetrapper thanks
Nice….
Ah! Queste fox indisciplinate! Certo che con orecchie cosi grandi e' facile disorientarsi fra rumori assordanti....anche il mio gatto e' scappato mentre guardo il video! Ciaoooo
He's used to all the noise haha. Cheers!
@@eyetrapper lo so lo so ma il mio gatto no ah ah mentre io amo il ruggito metallico dei motori a tutta manetta Cheers
Very cool! I noticed the two planes were F-18D's. Is there any word about RCAF possibly procuring Super Hornets? Additionally, do those planes have tail hooks? Not a dumb question as USAF F-15's do.
Thanks! These are actually 18B hornets. Unfortunately Canada won't be going with the Supers but are acquiring the F-35. And yes, they have tail hooks on these birds.
Wait until you get the F-35’s. Louder! I live near Miramar in San Diego. We have the F-18’s and the F-35B and C here. Notably louder, but I don’t mind.
Boeing uses Lambert field in St. Louis to test fly the new F-15s and FA-18 super hornets. These planes will do a viking departure where the jet takes off, retracts the landing gear, pull back out the stick and go to full military power. The jets go straight up out of sight in about 30 seconds.
You realize that Military Power is the highest engine power without afterburner, Maximum power is military plus afterburner.
@@hoghogwild What I meant was the pilot goes to full military power and hits the afterburner going full vertical.
Great video! Do these not show up on Flightradar? I searched on May 10 but didn’t see them. Maybe hidden?thx
Thank you! Negative, fighterjets rarely show on flight trackers.
Great video and yes they are very loud. I almost got a job at Cold Lake years ago and when I was there applying for it I saw and heard them practicing drills overhead. Canada is supposed to buy 88 F 35s and finally we will have some better modern aircraft. Unlike our used and leaky British submarines at least we will have new jets.
I remember in 1988 when Winnipeg lost the maintenance contract for them to Quebec for political reasons what a fiasco that was. They were new then. How time "flies".LOL.
Our hornets are so old!
1982 birds, undergoing Hornet Extension Project #1 and and half the fleet is getting HEP#2. These Hornets in 2022-23 will be the deadliest Hornets Canada's flown.
Hopefully that'll be me in the cockpit of the CF-18 (probably CF-35 by the time I get to the seat)
🤞
Snap, same type of video up tonight, the RCAF CF188 Hornets making some noise. 🙂
And both with awesome shows.
Not very often you see a cf18 with beacons not flashing in sequence
Seen it before but rarely.
Wow, you don't see this every day!
Not at all
Still trying to capture one of these, but unfortunatly i dont think they are coming back. I hope they do tho. Is there a tip that you got to try and capture one of these here? Because you managed to video one and want one from myself.
They are very hard to track. One of my friends notified me that two were on the ground and at that moment I went out to wait for them. I'm doubtful that they come back.
I seen 2 f18’s doing a couple quick flybys over Burnaby/Coquitlam yesterday may 16 @7:30 pm . Looking to see what they were doing here? That’s how I ran into this video.
Those were actually CT-155s. They were doing flybys for a veteran. Video of their movement around YVR coming soon.
@@eyetrapper I didn’t know. I heard about the veteran. They flew past my house right overhead pretty low so quick the first time couldn’t tell what they were. Second time I got a bit of video on my phone but they were further away. I don’t know my planes that well, just wandering what they were doing👍
@@eyetrapper yup you are right looked at the footage I got closer, definitely ct-155’s
Does anyone know what the green strips are for on the 2nd cf18? I have seen them before on an American f35.
They are called formation lights.
Sorry my mistake for the fur ball in the comments, was using my cell phone to view the video. On the comp I can see clearly see it is 410 squadron not 416
No worries!
Our Hornets are very tired now.
No, they are the most capable Hornets the RCAF has ever flown. All 94 are getting Hornet Extension Program-1 while 36 of the lowest hour airframes are getting HEP#2 to take the fleet to 2032.
What’s the purpose of the green light strips on the sides of the fighter?
They are formation lights.
Canadian fighter pilots always the best. Topgun. #1. The best training in the world at Cold Lake. 🇨🇦
When these guys get F-35’s lookout 🙈 👍
No
@@GlennMichaelHasting Yes
Bit excessive, no? It's just a coyote. No need to call in the air force! 😋
Thought the same too! Dude got the full show haha.
As one as Trudeau is in office the USA demands that Canada return all F-18 Hornets!
Didn’t Canada buy our old RAAF F-18a’s recently
They did aquire a few not to long ago.
