Hi Carole, Lovely Vlog 🙂Photos at the end were lovely. We used to go camping on a site at Bere Regis when my husband went to the tank museum and I would take the children on different days out. Such a beautiful area. x x Debbie x
the advent Calendar is adorable..Winter fun is always the best.. So far here in the part of Canada I live in we have none.. I want some though..love winter
You look great in the top you are wearing, festive without being Christmas :). The littles makes are so cute. And the dressing gown idea for sewing is a good one! I am one of those that tries on my sewing as almost every new seam is sewn :)
Happy Thanksgiving weekend… Thank you sew much again for a lovely 25 minutes of sewing chat again this week… Just great to chill and recover after cooking for the family Thursday and a busy Friday clean up at home. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻your juki will be home very soon. Sew the pinafore it will be lovely. Sending lots of love to you and yours and many thanks again for your lovely Friday Sews escape 😊💕Xxx …and yes, I keep trying things on when making and can be half dressed at times to 😂😂😂
lol. Yes I’m in a nightgown that I can put off and on easily. I think that’s the best way to get it done. Thank you for asking that question. I got a good chuckle thinking about it. 😂😂
I am so glad you are listening to what you are able to do. That is very healthy! I loved everything you made this week, especially the boys' jumpers! Have a lovely week.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your understanding. I want to be able to still have time to sew and watch other Vlogmas videos and I knew I wouldn't be able to do that with everything else that goes on at this time of year. Have a lovely week too 🧵😊
Hi, Carole, lovely makes this week. For pinnafore inspiration have a look at Ruth McIntyre's last make of 2023. This video is a favourite of mine. It's the Whitttaker pinnafore by Merchant & Mills. Also, Christine Gemini Stitcher has recently done some lovely embroidery on the front of her pinnafore dress. I will look forward to seeing your pinnafore. I have the Whittaker cut out ready to sew.
The tops for your grandkids came out so cute. I’m sure they will love them. I just made a hoodie dress for my granddaughter, I’d like to make it again in a sweatshirt knit. Your daughter will probably live in hers this winter. The Advent calendar with the hats is adorable. What a wonderful family heirloom you and your mom have created. I had my California family opened their gifts while I was visiting for Thanksgiving. My son loves his oven mitt. When he set it down my five year old grandson put it around his shoulders like a scarf. I guess it kind of looked like that being so long with “pockets” at the end. Thanks for sharing the fun pictures at the end. Have a great week.
Hi Carol, I am so pleased to hear your gifts were a success on your trip to California, how funny your Grandson wore the mitts around his neck! My daughter will probably live in the hoodie you are right and I am convinced she won't notice the pocket at all. I didn't realise how special the Advent decoration would be until I was putting it all together, it really will be quite special in the future. Thanks for watching and I hope you had a good Thanksgiving 🧵😊
Just discovered you today! What a lovely vlog. Just like sitting down with a friend. I feel your pain re your Juki. Luckily we have a marvellous sewing centre in our small town which mends machines and runs sewing courses.
Oh yes Carole. Sometimes sew in my undies only as I'm sewing my clothes😊 Also made 2 sweatshirts from that same pattern which I traced out too. Added the kangaroo pockets to mine. Great pattern isn't it. I got mine in a charity shop!
I thoroughly enjoyed your video, sharing the patterns, makes, and, of course, the chat. I have been reorganising rooms to have one sewing and one storage. The only sewing this week is making covers for the suitcases, as I store items in them. It took me two hours to thread the overlocker ,from scratch, not impressed, and I also used the sewing machine. As sewists, I believe we don't like our time to be wasted. I can commiserate with you needing your Juki back. Happy sewing. ❤❤ 🇦🇺
Carole, your grandsons are such handsome little guys. The sweaters for them came out so nice. Thank you for the pictures of the snow and the day after. The boys look like they really enjoyed playing out in the snow. Enjoy your week. ❤🙏❤
Thank you Maureen, you are so kind. My daughter sent me photos of them in the jumpers this afternoon and they look so smart! That snow was the first that the little one had ever seen and also the first time the older one had actually been old enough to play in it, they LOVED it as you can imagine. Hope you have a good week too 🧵😊
Sewing keeps us humble. I sewed and serged a small cross-over bag and put the zipper on backward . Needless to say, it took a little while to unpack. Thanks for sharing your beautiful makes.
Oh no Linda!! That does sound like a devil to unpick but well done for doing it. As you say, sewing does keep us grounded doesn't it. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching 🧵😊
Hi Carole! Yes you do have a lot of American friends- including me - from Chicago, IL😊. I’ll watch you regardless being a holiday. Thank you for sharing a little of your life with us.
Thank you so much and I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday!! Thanks alsofor letting me know where you live, I love to find that out 👏🏼. Enjoy your week and happy sewing 🧵😊
Hi Carole. I love the sweatshirts for the boys. I don’t think your daughter will even notice the pocket. I think she will love it. I just love the little hats… the kids will love it…and that you and your Mum made it….so special. I hope you get your Juki back soon. The pocket on the man’s shirt would drive me crazy. 😊My sewing room is down stairs. There is a small window at ground level… i am terrified somebody will happen along and see me if I’m sewing in my undies. 😂 I always look forward to seeing you on Fridays. I understand why you’re not able to do vlogmas….i just don’t have enough to show for a month. Love all your photos. Have a great weekend. ❤ Diann
Hi Diann, if I was sewing downstairs with a window I wouldn't sew in my underwear either!! Luckily birds are the only ones that can see me and I do tend to do it when Chris is out 😂. I really enjoyed knitting again and making those little hats, it wasn't until I put my Mums and mine together did I realise just how special that project would be in years to come. Hope Katie looks after it!! She won't notice that pocket you are right, I am cross that Chris did, he doesn't miss much and is a harsh critic! I honestly don't know how people can do Vlogmas, all that filming and editing and then when do you get time to sew or deal with all the Christmas preparations?! Thanks for watching, I really appreciate your kindness and hope you had a good thanksgiving 💗🍓💗
Carol it’s always lovely to see you first thing Friday morning, but since today is still a holiday, it’s a leisurely pleasure. Oh my, the advent caps are ADORABLE! I think you’ll, eventually, need to make another so each boy will have one. What a great collaboration with your mom to create this family heirloom. You’ve been busy and finished a lot of beautiful makes. Good luck on the sewing machine! 😊-Deborah
Hi Deborah, hope you had a good Thanksgiving! I had such fun knitting again and yes, maybe Mum and I should keep doing the hats for more Advent treats, especially whilst she is still able to knit. I did have a good week but I am missing my Juki so much, I want to sew those knit fabrics and I know the Janome will be a pain sewing them! Have a great extra long weekend 🧵😊
Wow 🤩 what a hit. Beautiful sweaters for the boys, I love the fabrics! The shirt for your granddaughter is adorable ❤ Have a great week. Thanks for sharing as always.
Thank you! I gave the boys their sweaters this afternoon and they have worn them ever since, I hope they don't wear them out before Christmas 😂. I really appreciate your kind comments, thank you so much 🧵😊
Hello Carole I have sewn for grandkids in the past and it's a real joy Love the excitement of children when you make them something They also Don't know if the garment isn't perfect Your daughter will be wearing the hoodie at home in the evening so it's not so crucial The Burda pattern batwing top is a really good one So enjoy that sew Happy sewing 👗🧵🪡✂️
Thanks for your comments Joanne and great news about that Burda pattern. I want to get one of those sewn up soon. You are right about my daughter's hoodie, she will never notice and yes, it won't be going out of the house anyway! Thanks for watching and hope you have a good week 🧵😊
Hi Carole! I SEW Iove all of your makes! The little Advent hats are so cute! What a great collaborative project to forever remember Grandma and Great Grandma. I have some Christmas tree ornaments that were lovingly created by family members that have been gone for many years, now. It is so special to put them on the tree each year. I think I will have to make an inventory of who made what, so my adult children remember where they came from. I digress. When making pants, I have been known to sew in my underwear. I usually wear my dressing gown, but often I get fed up with putting it on and off. It's such fun seeing the children enjoying the snow! 🎄 Bernadette
Hi there! You are right, it is so good that Mum and I were able to make that together and it will be something to keep for sure. I think we should make another now for my Granddaughter so they too can have one. I really enjoyed knitting those hats and making the pompoms. You are right about noting down your decorations, we have a few of those and it is only me that really knows the history. I think I will do that this year, I may take photos and write the history on the back, great idea. From what you have said and others, I think a Sewing Room Dressing gown is the way forward! Have a super weekend and thanks for watching 🧵😊
I love all your makes. The print on the jumper you are wearing is lovely. Our son is here visiting from out of dtate so no sewing gor me until he goes home.
Thank you so much, it is funny sometimes how you can get some cheaper fabrics that are just a success isn't it? Oh dear, sorry to hear you aren't sewing but spending time with family is far better isn't it 🥰. Enjoy your time with him 🧵😊
Hi, Carole, I love that top, so colorful! That oversized hoodie looks so warm and comfy. You have been busy, what a time for your machine to be down. It looks like my holiday sewing will be put on hold indefinitely as I am still dealing with Covid symptoms. I’m in the middle of an asthma attack from Covid, just what I need, it will take months for me to recover my strength. Oh well, I’ll have time to watch Vlogmas this year😂. I love the photos of your sweet little grandsons. Take care😊
Oh Sue!! You are still not better, that is awful. I do hope your asthma attack isn't serious, I did read yesterday that they have finally come up with another treatment for Asthma sufferers, about time too! Well, at least as you say you can be kept entertained by all the Vlogmas videos, I will be watching too but I am so glad I have decided not to do them. Thanks so much for your kind comments on my makes this week and the boys love their jumpers which is great. Stay in, warm and cosy and look after yourself xx🧵😊
Oh Carole, I always relate to something in your vlogs. I always sew with my door closed. But a few years ago, my teenage son walked in while I was trying on my sewing. He always knocks first before entering now. Also, I keep a robe in my sewing room now for the times when I need a lot of fitting. 😂 As usual, you had a bunch of great makes and so productive!
Thanks so much for your comment and how funny you may have scared off your son in the past 😂. That is the beauty of only being my husband and I in the house although having a robe in the sewing room makes so much more sense, especially at this time of year so I am going to do that! Have a great weekend and thanks again🧵😊
Hi Carol, also use franklins Salisbury for my juki, that walk across the city takes ages. Arranged to pull up outside for collection they brought it to the door. Just keep an eye out for the traffic wardens. Love your chatty videos x
Oh you know what I mean! All that road work has been awful around there this past couple of years hasn't it 😫. They did tell me when my Juki is finally mended they will carry it to the car for me in the Car Park, I'm going to keep them to that promise! They are taking so long it's such a shame as you get such a good service when you buy from them, I think they just get overwhelmed with work in the service dept. Thanks so much for watching and I love it when I hear from viewers who live near me. 🧵😊
Hi Carole, I feel for you! It's pure torture waiting for your machine when it's in the shop! I hope you get it soon! You look amazing as always. That floral knit is beautiful. And the Bambi embroidery is perfect! Those reindeer sweaters, what can I say!!!! They look catalog store bought!! STUNNING! I love the cozy Mickey hoodie. No worries about the nap. Not noticeable. And those tiny hats are so sweet! And finally to answer your questions: 1. A big fat NO WAY on that pocket. Atrocious! 2. I wear my B6967 robe over my undies in the sewing room a lot of the time! It's a little secret that I have never shared! 🤣🤣🤣Great video as always. Have a fabulous weekend Carole! 💝💝❤❤
Hi Grace, thanks so much for all your lovely words. I honestly thought twice before I admitted sewing in my underwear but it seems like we have all shared our little secrets for too long 😂. A robe is definitely the answer though or a massive poncho?! I am so desperate to get my Juki back as I want a good machine for that lovely knit rib fabric and I know my Janome will just eat it 😢. Maybe I will chase them again on Monday. Only one person has said that pocket doesn't bother them so far so we all think alike, I bet that shirt cost a fortune though as he is one of the highest paid celebrities in our Country! Have a fantastic weekend too and hope you had a good Thanksgiving 💗🥰💗
Lol I sew in my underwear all the time!! Glad its not just me. You’ve bwwn so busy and thos jumpers for the boys are STELLAR! Girl your sub count is growing so rapidly! You are a superstar! So dun to watch! Love you❤
Ha ha Trish, our secret is out and in public now! There is so many of us out there sewing in underwear by the sounds of my comments 😱😂. Maybe a dressing gown is the way forward though as it can be chilly in my sewing room sometimes and then often... the doorbell rings 😂. Thanks for all your kind comments and the boys tops were a hit! Missing you and missing seeing Pinky's Farm videos, don't disappear forever. Love and hugs 💗😘xx
Carole, that's the kind of snow I like...one and done. Kids had fun and it was beautiful. I'm with you on the trying on while sewing. I have a kind of knit pullover dress that's handy for most things. My sewing space is too exposed for just undies. I'm with you too on the pattern on that guy's shirt. Not only is the pocket pattern distracting, but the balance is off on the entire shirt. I never can buy a garment when the pattern matching is noticeably off and sometimes it happens on more expensive brands that should know better. You've made lots of great things. Love those little hats and it's super special that your mother made it with you for the grandkids. Happy sewing in your underwear! ❤
I know what you mean about the Snow, no time to turn into brown slush or ice, here one day and gone the next! Having a knit type dress in the sewing room sounds a great idea, something you can just thrown on and off, I may adapt that! That shirt pocket was so off putting wasn't it and it was probably the design as he is one of the highest paid TV celebs over here! I am so pleased I found that little hat project and my Mum agreed to knit a few, that will be remembered for many years to come. Happy sewing in your pullover dress! 🧵😊
Thank you so much for your comment on vlogmas, I really appreciate that. I do enjoy watching the videos and there will be some great ones to watch I know. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Live all your makes the boys top are great and the little hats are going to be such wonderful memories you have been busy hope your juki comes soon great video 😊😊😊
Thanks so much Robyn. I have just given the boys their tops and now they are wearing at the School Christmas Fayre, great timing! I do hope the Juki returns to me, certainly before I need to sew any more thick fabric. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching 🧵😊
Precious makes for your grandchildren, Carole! The Advent calendar is a treasure! The batwing Burda pattern you got is similar to the one I sent you, I think. I’ve made that Simplicity dress pattern a few times, and love it! Highly recommend! 😘💗
Thank you so much Andra. All the sweatshirts were a success so I am very happy. You are right about that Batwing top, it is so similar to the one you sent me. This one I didn't realise until I put it away was a Burda Young pattern so I am not sure I qualify 😂. Thanks for letting me know re the Simplicity dress, that is a great help. Have a wonderful weekend 💗😘
I always enjoy your videos and completely understand why vlogmas is not an option. So glad you and the boys were able to enjoy the snow and build a snowmouse together. You might want to look at Helen's Closet York Pinafore? It is a slightly different style than the pattern you have. Hope you have less time on the phone this week.
Hi Lorraine, thanks so much for the suggestion on the pinafore. I will take a look at that pattern. A lot of people have suggested adding plackets and buttons etc to jazz it up and I think I will have a look at other patterns and try and copy the ideas (I do love doing that!!). Oh I do hope you are right about less time on the phone but the situation still isn't sorted so I don't hold out much hope, at least it is better than online chat bots!! Have a good weekend and thank you for your understanding on vlogmas 🧵😊
Hi, Carole! I’ve been sewing for grandchildren too. Your tees for yours are cute! I just took an embroidery class, which was a fun day. That pocket🤣 I think a few times while trying on something, I’ve not redressed, but fixed my garment and tried on again😊
Hi Cheryl! Thanks so much for your kind comments, I was so pleased how the boys shirts came out. I would love to do an embroidery class actually, I am self taught and I am sure I do a lot of things wrong! Glad you are another one that sews and doesn't always redress after a fitting. There are lots of us out there by the sounds of it. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Hi Carole, Love your top. I was thinking that maybe the sweatshirt, which by the way looks great and super cosy, would have sewn up better on your overlock machine?? Perhaps less frustration?? Your Advent calender reminds me of our earlier Chrismases over here in Germany. I really hope you get your Juki back. Maybe the following chant will help: Bring back, bring back, oh bring back my Juki to me, to me 😅Thanks for another Great Blog 👍🧵
Hi Carole, I have been a subscriber for a long time & enjoy all your videos 🥰 You inspired me to dabble with embroidery and I purchased the same Brother Disney machine as you 🥰 I would be so grateful if you would do some embroidery tutorials 🥰
Hi Donna! Thank you so much for staying with me and being loyal! I'm so excited to hear you have bought that Brother and I know you will have fun with it as I have. Don't be scared to use it, just get stuck in. I have some videos on my channel going back to when I first got it and then more recent ones when I do things a bit better 😂. They are in a separate playlist, hope you can find them and they help a bit. The main thing I've learnt is, it's all about the stabiliser!! There is a brother Facebook site for Embroidery and there are lots of people always around with answers to problems. Good luck and let me know how you get on 🧵😊
I just cut out a shirt for my husband for Christmas and cut the picket and button band on the diagonal. It is a fine strip, white blue and navy. Hope it looks ok as I don’t have enough fabric to change it
You’ve been busy this week! I absolutely love the pink sweatshirt with the embroidery - how cute! Also really like the Christmas sweaters for the boys and the hoodie for Katie. The oops on the pocket made me laugh because I’ve done that too many times to count. So annoying! When I’m sewing in the evening, I usually wear my bathrobe over underwear if I know I’ll be trying stuff on. I can’t really sew in my underwear because I do have a 20 year-old at the house and his bedroom is right next to my sewing room. 😂 I really hope Franklin’s get your machine sorted soon. 😢 Have fun this weekend! Xx 💞
Ah right... I keep forgetting you have another 'body' in your house 😂. I feel conspicuous if Chris is around! I think a dressing gown (bathrobe) is definitely the way to go, especially in Winter so that is what I shall do. Oh Katie's pocket, I suppose it is a test for her to see if she notices or not?! I am guessing not unless Chris tells her because he spotted it. I am a bit disappointed with Franklins to be honest, they are great at sales but the Service department lets them down. I suppose I should be grateful I have a back up machine but every time I use it, I remember why I bought the Juki 😂. Have a super weekend and can't wait to see that blue loungewear!! 💗xx
I love that oversized hooded sweatshirt. My machine really struggles with fabric like that too. I always have to cut down the hood because of the amount of fabric it takes and I have a small head.
Thank you so much for your comment, I am glad you liked the hoodie. I don't often sew with fabric like this and I remember why now 😂. The hoods are always so large aren't they and so fabric hungry! Have a good weekend and happy sewing 🧵😊
The jumpers you made for your grandchildren and beautiful. If you don’t mention the pocket on your daughters top she might not notice the difference in the pile. Yes that guys shirt pocket was driving me mad just to look at it. Him being on TV it was probably expensive too. 😮 Happy sewing 🧵🪡🇦🇺
Thanks so much for your kind comments, I was so pleased with the boys jumpers and happy the little girls jumper fitted her! I honestly wish I could 'un see' that TV presenter's shirt don't you?! I wonder how much it cost? Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend 🧵😊
Whenever my janome starts acting up it's usually the pressure on the presser foot needs to be maximized ( quilting or heavy fleece) or the feed dogs need to be cleaned out after using fluffy fleece. Also if you can get them from smeltz... Try the chrome stretch or chrome Microtex needles. I use both of these on most sewing projects even woven. Rarely change my needles between projects and these two work all the time for me
Thanks so much for your comment and you raise some interesting points. I often think my pressure foot is down too much as it always marks the fabric. I used Microtex needles from Schmetz but not the Chrome version, I may get some of those as they advertise them as being more hardwearing. Thanks so much for that tip. Yes my machine needed a good clear out after that fabric! Have a good week 🧵😊
Great vlog. Love what you are wearing. I agree with the shirt pattern on Ant, would drive me mad. We had a few flakes of snow here in Jersey. Enjoy your week.
Hi Lorraine. Gosh I can't believe you had some flakes in the Channel Islands?! I can't imagine that happens very often! I know Ant's shirt or shacket must have cost a fortune but honestly, that pocket 😫. Thanks so much for watching and your comment, have a great weekend 🧵😊
Another vote for sewing in underwear! It is too annoying to keep undressing isn't it and like you, it is only my husband and I in the house! Have a lovely weekend and thanks for your comment 🧵😊
Ah yes Stephanie, you may give a wrong impression if you are sewing downstairs with a window in underwear! Luckily my room is upstairs so it is only the birds and trees that can see me. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
I did laugh at the idea of you sitting in your underwear sewing.😄. I really love the fabric in the top you're wearing. I hope you get your machine back soon. Maybe call them - a lot - squeaky wheel and all that. Maree, Sydney.
Thanks so much for your kind comment on my top. Oh dear, now you will think I always sew in my underwear 😂. Don't worry I have called the shop a few times and the guy is really sweet, maybe I have been too accommodating! I will try again this week. Have a lovely weekend 🧵😊
A suggestion, Tiana's Closet website has 2 free PDF pinafore dresses patterns, The Violet and Vera pinafore. I am planning to make one of those two soon with most likely a corduroy fabric. Greetings!
Thanks so much, I will go and check out those designs, I could always adapt mine to look like theirs. The only thing I don't like about Cord is that it tends to 'stick' to tights and I am too lazy to line the garment. I will have to wear a slip! Good luck with yours and have a good weekend 🧵😊
We aren't alone, most of my comments are saying the same thing. A housecoat sounds a great idea though for those times when the door bell rings! Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend 🧵😊
Hello Carole, the sewing looks amazing, oh those little jumper, so cute, your daughter and grandchildren will love I’m sure. Such a shame about your sewing machine, it’s ridiculous the time the company’s take these days, something under warranty should not take so long to fix, had the same in the past with a repair taking months, so I muddle my way own through basic maintenance now, this week I had a machine in total pieces, sussed the problem too 😁woooo. oh those wet bag turned out great, thank you. I think it’s getting colder again next week, so I heard, so more snow for us Dorset folk? We had 4 inches on our hill, again a big wooooo. 😁Happy Sewing
Thanks so much for your comment. Good on you for trying to mend your machines. The annoying thing was I had just changed the threader, I had replaced the bobbin case this year but then another problem happened! Enough was enough on a new machine hence it is being looked at. They just don't seem to have any sense of urgency anymore do they? More cold weather on the way? At least it will be dry then or maybe enough more of the white stuff! 4 inches, that is incredible as we had only 1 inch but I suppose we are nearer the coast. Hope you have a good week whatever the weather throws at us. 🧵😊
Vlogmas is v well covered elsewhere so I agree with your decision. Pinafore - Love notions recently released a new pinafore pattern that might suit, sorry can't remember name! The shirt pocket would also drive me nuts.
Judging by all my comments there are quite a few of us out there sewing in underwear which is so funny! Thanks so much for watching and your comment 🧵😊
Oh a fake placket, now that is a good idea. Someone else said about buttons etc and I think you are all right. I have the basis of the pattern I just need to jazz it up a little. Thank you so much for the idea and taking the time to comment 🧵😊
Well, what an idea... to have a 'moo moo' sewing dress as you call it. Do you know, I had never heard of that until Trish from Pinkys Farm explained it to me! That pocket on that shirt eh? I don't think I will ever 'un see' that 😂. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Hi Carole, you have been busy! I absolutely adored the sweaters for the boys, and I am sure they will love it 👏. The little hat advent calendar is just precious 😊. I can’t believe it’s taking this long for the shop to fix your machine, did you call them to ask if they are waiting on parts to arrive? I would think that would be the only reason to take this long. I never just stay in my underwear, I have too many windows!! When I am trying on my garments, I always have to close the curtains 😳😳. This was a great and fun video, thank you!!
Hi Karen! Oh believe me I have rung them multiple times and the trouble is the guy is so sweet and has only recently recovered from a heart attack so don't want to cause another!! They are doing it under warrantee though but it took them one month to even find out what was wrong 😢. I am sure it will be home for Christmas like all the family!! There is no way I would sew in underwear in front of windows either, luckily as I sew upstairs the only thing that could see me are birds! What a hassle though for you to close the windows all the time. Hope you have a great weekend and thanks so much for watching 🧵😊
Hi Carole. It's a shame you're having trouble with your Juki. Think you need to get onto Franklins to chase that up, it's just horrid when your favourite sewing machine is out of commission. Yes I do sew in my underwear, but think at this time of year a dressing gown is a brilliant idea. Yes Dec's shirt would drive me crazy too with the pocket (and my hubby wouldn't like it either), it would have been more acceptable if it was just a plain pocket, but I would personally have stripe matched. Many thanks as always.
Black Friday!!!! SALE!!!! 😅😅😅 Lol. I think your cozy top looks nice. The kid's sweatshirts look so cute. I do the neck band on my shirts now also following what Rachel did from the French Seams. I'm so sorry about your Juki. You will get it back soon. When I have to sew on my Brother sewing machine, It is okay but it does not have a thread cutter and I'm spoiled with my baby lock! I think the hoodie looks good on you. I don't see the nap!😅😅😅 Have a great day.
Hi Zelda, Rachael has a lot to answer for doesn't she! Mind you, I will admit they look so much better done like that and I love finding contrasting bits of jersey to do it. Sounds like you know what I mean about swapping machines. With my Juki the foot lifts when I stop...I keep waiting for the Janome to do that 😂. Basically I am just spoilt with the Juki! xx
I feel for you regarding your machine. I have long held the belief (wish) that shops should offer a hire sewing machine to use while our beloved lifelines are in hospital lol. I bought an expensive lemon of a machine that was constantly in for repair of the same problem. While under guarantee, like I imagine yours is, I might add. Why won't they just replace the sub par item? I did get to know the service people quite well and found a bribe of chocolate worked nicely in getting my machine back before I went nuts. Try that lol. On another note, well done with your backup machine. Beautifully made garments
Hi Annette, you know my pain then by the sounds of it! I have had issues all Summer and they know that, they have like you say agreed to do it under warrantee but yes, why not just replace the faulty goods?! That would be so much better. Let's hope it comes home for Christmas! Failing that I will try the chocolate. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Haha, my husband knows when I'm sewing for myself, I'm often in my underwear or a nightdress. A nd that guy's shirt would drive me crazy. One Christmas I purchased plaid fabric and made 14 pairs of pjs I set myself crazy matching them all. Have not purchased plaid since.
I am sorry.....14 pairs of PJs in plaid?! Are you insane? I am not surprised that you haven't sew with it ever since. Hats off to you for doing it though, that is incredible. Another person sewing in underwear, judging by the comments this week on my video there are lots of us out there doing it!! Thanks for watching and have a wonderful week 🧵😊
The sweatshirt pocket is funny, we have all had that experience. The gentleman's shirt was very strange, cannot imagine a sewist leaving that in such a state. Very pleased to hear someone else gets tired of the "striptease" in the sewing room. I can't sew in my underwear because of the configuration of my sewing room but I do wear easy to remove clothing if I know there will be alot of fitting. There now the world knows every sewist dirty secret 🤣 Wear did you find the corduroy I have been searching with no luck ?
Thanks so much for watching and your comment. I do tend to wear easy clothing but I still get cross, especially with trousers! At least my room is upstairs and out of the way, I still feel conspicuous though. If you read the comments, there are so many of us that do it and yes, it is all out in the open now 😂. The corduroy I bought was from Pound Fabrics in the UK, it is a really fine needlecord. Hope that helps! Have a good weekend 🧵😊
Too funny picturing you sewing in your underwear. And, yes, I have also especially when sewing pants. It’s not the norm for me though since my sewing room is in a shed with little heat and I live on family property with my daughters and their husbands and somebody is always stopping by to see what I’m doing. I don’t mind if my daughters stop by and I’m half clothed but I certainly do not want to scare my son-in-laws. 😂 I was reading a Palmer & Pletsh book about fitting pants and they actually do recommend sewing in your underwear due to the amount of try-ons needed.
Oh gosh, I don't think I would sew in my underwear in our shed at the bottom of the garden 😂, maybe I would adopt the dressing gown approach or even a long poncho! I can't imagine what my son in law would think 😂 That is really interesting about the Palmer and Pletsch book, I had never considered it would the the 'right' thing to do. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment 🧵😊
Funny you ask - I’ve sewn plenty in my bra and underwear. My husband has a good laugh when he happens downstairs to see me about something and finds me half dressed! It is what it is.
Yay, another vote for sewing in underwear. How funny there are so many of us admitting to it. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment 🧵😊
Well, this time I will admit I bought the cuffing on Amazon as I needed it really quickly!! Normally I would buy it from Minerva or Beyond the Pink Door. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
The guys shirt pocket, very distracting. You are so busy, I am envious of what you can accomplish in a week. The boys sweatshirts are so cute for Christmas and I love the fact that you can make a mistake with the nap of a pocket and be OK with it. Good on you. Fleece! Do we need to say more? I just finished a robe for my youngest granddaughter then spent an hour cleaning out my machine and serger, fluff everywhere. The advent hats are a treasure with your mother’s effort, so special. I happen to be making a pinafore/jumper for my granddaughter using New Look 6592. I thought rounding the corners of the neckline was attractive, it seems to have a little more flare than your pattern which would be an easy adjustment and maybe the shoulders cut in narrower. I was extremely disappointed when I got the pattern out only to find the neck is squared off! Not rounded as depicted! Now I have to figure out how to make that change with my skill set. I’m glad I only paid $.99 for the pattern. Sometimes I never get dressed, straight from bed to the sewing room and yes, I spend time in my underwear. I live in Texas and in the summer I don’t want to wear clothes if I don’t have to. Love your channel. Happy holiday season to you and your family.
That pocket really is just eye watering isn't it? I can guess it cost a lot as well! Thank you so much for bringing my attention to NL6592, the rounded edges on the square neckline will look much better and others have said to add buttons or a fake placket which is a great idea. You know exactly what I mean about the fleece then. I forgot that this time last year I made a robe for my granddaughter and had the same experience. It is so cosy and tempting to sew though isn't it, even if the sewing room gets covered in it! I have also had to clean out all the machines. As for the hoodie pocket, there is no way that I could have ever unpicked that so I just had to accept its fate. I know, as my daughter doesn't sew or know much about fabrics that I will get away with it, if it was for m? Then it would drive me crazy 😂. Thanks so much for watching and have a lovely weekend 🧵😊
Carole, you are overthinking the Mickey issue! The pocket might be strictly the wrong way up BUT you have an upright Mickey bang in the centre and so it looks purposeful to me!! Don’t beat yourself up! Also, I would love to know if your Juki DX problems relate to the machine itself cos my husband is about to get me exactly that machine for Christmas and given the price I don’t want to make a mistake!, 😮
Thanks so much Moira, you are probably right I bet Katie doesn't notice it anyway 😂. Re my Juki, it is an awesome machine and so much better than my Janome. I was recommended to buy one from Adam Sews and Dizzy Quilts and sews. I think I have been unlucky or I did something wrong early on. I do remember the bobbin area getting all jammed up so it could have stemmed from that. Don't let me put you off as they really are super machines and the buttonholes are brilliant!! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Hello Carole did you say the Disney fabric came from Germany? I love it but can’t catch what you said. As for juki I’m very surprised I haven’t got one but always wanted one. Best wishes from Portugal
Hi there, thanks so much for watching. I bought the Disney fabric from MyFabrics.com which are based in Germany. They do a really good range of fabrics and I have had a lot of success with them. The Juki is a really great machine and lots of people on youtube have them, I think I was either unlucky or I did something wrong! It is only a minor problem with the bobbin case area but they haven't been exactly quick to mend it! Have a good weekend 🧵😊
I really like the jumper you’re wearing, and the soft blue fabric looks great too. Perhaps for the pinafore you could just add a placket and couple of buttons at the front. Thanks for not doing Vlogmas. I find it a bit too much. And then feel a bit satiated with all the extra watching. Re your daughter’s top, I bet she won’t mind and even not notice unless you mention it.
Hi Trish, you are right about adding plackets etc to that pattern. If the fit is right I could easily just 'zhuzh' it up a little to match others online! I do know what you mean about Vlogmas, I watch a lot of channels and find it hard sometimes to get through all the Friday Sews, let alone daily versions!! I do know that Izzy's (Dizzy Quilts & Sews) will be good though so I am looking forward to hers. You are right about my daughter's top, she would NEVER notice anything like that 😂. Have a great weekend and thanks for your lovely comments 🧵😊
LOL, I can honestly say I have never sewn in my underwear! That is an image I don't want to give anyone. I know what you mean about trying on and having to get undressed in this weather. I actually left my latest jumper until I got ready for bed later in the evening, having finished it just after lunch. I don't know how you vloggers actually film at all, let alone Vlogmas. It's not something I would relish having to do on a regular basis.
Oh dear, I have admitted that in public that I sew in my underwear 😂. It isn't great for me either, especially when I catch a glance in the mirror 😱. Sounds like you have a more sensible approach than me! Like you I have no idea how vloggers manage more than 2 videos a week and doing daily ones?! With all the editing, uploading and comments etc? No way. To be honest, I would have no time for sewing which defeats the object doesn't it 😂. I will enjoy watching others instead. Thanks so much for your comment and have a great weekend 🧵😊
Carol, do not, I repeat not, make that new look pinafore.Sorry but It's horrible, ask me how I know. Choose another pattern please. Fabulous tops for your grandchildren and your daughter. Love how the hats came out too. Have a great week.
Oh Annette your comment has made me laugh 😂. I will admit an hour ago I looked on Patternreview.com to see if anyone else had made it....there were 2 results and I wasn't impressed. I was thinking of using it as a base and jazzing it up a little with different pockets, buttons etc. Can you give me a hint on what is bad about it?! Thanks so much for watching and I will wait to hear from you before I cut anything out! 🧵😊
Personally, I'm not a fan of over-matching those pockets. They are almost always simply a design feature (decoration), and by rendering it invisible, you might as well not sew it on at all. 😘 Again, just my opinion! I just don't do that. Mading it contras in some way adds a lot of visual interest. Thanks for the video today! I believe that awful fabric is called Minky in the US, that may be a brand name. I hate the stuff as well, but it is very pettable!
I do understand what you mean Lynn. I know sometimes I have matched pockets for my husbands shirts so well, then thought...why did I do that when it just 'disappears' into the pattern! I think , this shirt bothered me because of the wide white stripe, a thinner checked pattern cut on the angle looks good, it was just this version that I struggled not to stare at! You could be right on the 'Minky', as you say it is lovely to stroke and feels so soft but a devil to sew. Thanks for watching and hope you have a great weekend 🧵😊
The pocket is definitely weird. Who makes a shirt like that and why did he decide to wear it. I don’t sew in my underwear, I put on easy elasticated pants.
The pocket is crazy isn't it? I kept thinking perhaps that is the design and we are doing it all wrong by pattern matching 😂. Elasticated trousers is definitely a better idea than underwear! Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend 🧵😊
Crazy isn't it and I bet that shirt cost a fortune! So glad to hear another person sews in underwear and it isn't just me 👏🏼. Thanks for watching and have a good weekend 🧵😊
Happy Thanksgiving weekend…
Thank you sew much again for a lovely 25 minutes of sewing chat again this week…
Just great to chill and recover after cooking for the family Thursday and a busy Friday clean up at home.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻your juki will be home very soon.
Sew the pinafore it will be lovely.
Sending lots of love to you and yours and many thanks again for your lovely Friday Sews escape 😊💕Xxx
…and yes, I keep trying things on when making and can be half dressed at times to 😂😂😂
lol. Yes I’m in a nightgown that I can put off and on easily. I think that’s the best way to get it done. Thank you for asking that question. I got a good chuckle thinking about it. 😂😂
So enjoy your channel. Yes yes yes I also sew in my undies often, especially in the spring and summer
Your not alone! I also sew in my underwear quite often 😂
Amazing! Thank you so much for telling me that. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Oh yes Carole. Sometimes sew in my undies only as I'm sewing my clothes😊
Also made 2 sweatshirts from that same pattern which I traced out too.
100% yes on both your questions! That pocket made me crazy and sew in my underwear as well.😂
Brilliant!! Thanks so much for agreeing with me on both counts 😂. We aren't alone in our sewing attire by the sounds of my comments 🧵😊
I really appreciate your kind comments, thank you so much 🧵😊
Oh wat a lovely episode!! The advent calendar is so cute! I do love what you are wearing!
Thanks so much Katinka, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed knitting 🥰
Have a super weekend and hope you had a good Thanksgiving xxx
I tend to sew in my nightgown!😂
Hello Carole
I have sewn for grandkids in the past and it's a real joy
Love the excitement of children when you make them something
They also Don't know if the garment isn't perfect
Your daughter will be wearing the hoodie at home in the evening so it's not so crucial
The Burda pattern batwing top is a really good one
So enjoy that sew
Happy sewing 👗🧵🪡✂️
Thanks for your comments Joanne and great news about that Burda pattern. I want to get one of those sewn up soon. You are right about my daughter's hoodie, she will never notice and yes, it won't be going out of the house anyway!
Thanks for watching and hope you have a good week 🧵😊
Thanks Carole.. loved all your sweater makes. Have a lovely weekend 😅
Aw you are too kind, thank you so much and I really appreciate you watching 🧵😊
@socarole66 great idea about the photos and bit of history! I will use that method as well. 🎄
Hi Carole. Another lovely catch up and batch of makes. Thank you. 😊
Thanks so much for watching Debbie and I really appreciate your kindness 🧵😊
I love all your makes. The print on the jumper you are wearing is lovely. Our son is here visiting from out of dtate so no sewing gor me until he goes home.
Thank you so much, it is funny sometimes how you can get some cheaper fabrics that are just a success isn't it? Oh dear, sorry to hear you aren't sewing but spending time with family is far better isn't it 🥰. Enjoy your time with him 🧵😊
I said your fat quarters for wintery looking before you said it! We're on the same wavelength! Yay!
SNAP!! We are on the same page aren't we! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Carole, thank you for not doing Vlogmas! I detest sifting through all the vlogmas videos to find the good stuff! Love your videos!
Yes the pocket would drive me nuts also
Honestly I couldn't focus on anything else that night watching him 😂
Love Notions just came out with a pinafore. I think it's called the Pianoforte. I know it's PDF but it's pretty cool when they have sew alongs for
Oooh thanks so much for that Zelda, I will take a look 🧵😊xx
I would get a new pattern for your needle cord- it’s such nice fabric x
Thank you, you are probably right and lots of people have given me suggestions.
Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Carole, Love Notions have a pinafore pattern that looks nice.
Thank you so much for that suggestion, I will have a look on their website as I have done a few of those patterns. Have a good weekend 🧵😊
Yes, when I alter pants/ jeans I end up in just panties, but my room is upstairs and it's just myself and my husband. Thanks for sharing..
Another vote for sewing in underwear! It is too annoying to keep undressing isn't it and like you, it is only my husband and I in the house! Have a lovely weekend and thanks for your comment 🧵😊
Check out the Nina Lee pinafore dress - it’s a lovely design and not remotely boring! Would look great in your needlecord
Thanks so much, I will have a look at that pattern as I have done a couple of those patterns.
Have a good weekend 🧵😊
Haha 🤣 that pocket would drive me bonkers! I have a window in my sewing room so I don’t think it’s wise to sew in my underwear 😂😊
Yes, I sew in my underwear sometimes. I get tired of taking my outfit on and off. My mom sews in a housecoat. Whatever works!
Hi Carole
Love your blog
I live in Australia you are not the only one who sews in your underwear 😂
Judging by all my comments there are quite a few of us out there sewing in underwear which is so funny! Thanks so much for watching and your comment 🧵😊
Thank you Carol. Could you add two or three buttons to the front of the pinafore, just decorative like a fake placket.
Oh a fake placket, now that is a good idea. Someone else said about buttons etc and I think you are all right. I have the basis of the pattern I just need to jazz it up a little. Thank you so much for the idea and taking the time to comment 🧵😊
Carol...nice makes. Yes, that pocket makes my eye twitch. Hah!
And yes I sew in my "moo moo" dress. Happy Holidays!!
Yes, I sew in my underwear too!
Yay another one!! Our secret is out now and there are so many of us! 🧵😊
I am from Québec Canada
Hi there, thanks so much for watching 🧵😊
Black Friday!!!! SALE!!!!
😅😅😅 Lol.
I think your cozy top looks nice.
The kid's sweatshirts look so cute. I do the neck band on my shirts now also following what Rachel did from the French Seams.
I'm so sorry about your Juki. You will get it back soon. When I have to sew on my Brother sewing machine, It is okay but it does not have a thread cutter and I'm spoiled with my baby lock! I think the hoodie looks good on you. I don't see the nap!😅😅😅
Have a great day.
Basically I am just spoilt with the Juki! xx
Ha ha, I also sew half dressed because I'm doing a lot of fitting! It speeds up the process.
Thank you! I am glad you agree with me and yes, it sure does speed up sewing and fitting 😂. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
I was reading a Palmer & Pletsh book about fitting pants and they actually do recommend sewing in your underwear due to the amount of try-ons needed.
Oh gosh, I don't think I would sew in my underwear in our shed at the bottom of the garden 😂, maybe I would adopt the dressing gown approach or even a long poncho! I can't imagine what my son in law would think 😂
That is really interesting about the Palmer and Pletsch book, I had never considered it would the the 'right' thing to do.
Where do you find your banding for cuffs
Argh! The shirt pocket!!!
I absolutely hate to sew fleece, so I never do.
I completely understand that and I'm sure I've said the same in the past. I just got tempted!!
Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Personally, I'm not a big fan of matching the poskcet... It's usually a disign feature, and by rendering it invisible, one virtuslly erases that
Carol, do not, I repeat not, make that new look pinafore.Sorry but It's horrible, ask me how I know.
That pocket is so-o-o distracting!!!
It really was! I honestly couldn't focus on anything else 😂
Thanks so much for watching and have a good week 🧵😊
I agree, that pocket would drive me crazy.🫨 Yes I have done the underwear thing as well😅
Crazy isn't it and I bet that shirt cost a fortune! So glad to hear another person sews in underwear and it isn't just me 👏🏼. Thanks for watching and have a good weekend 🧵😊
